My two teenagers and I are taking our first cruise (Western) on Mar 24...yeah! Can't wait! Only thing that would make it better would be if my husband could make it.
Any thoughts on the Radisson Resort? And trying to decide on excursions in Key West. Should we buy our own snorkel gear, or rent? What is a waste of time and what is a must do?
Any thoughts or advice is most appreciated!
SO EXCITED!!
Anyone else going on the 24th?

Hi NSwift,
Congratulations to you for the upcoming trip. I wish I were leaving sooner.....

I am also a first time cruiser so I can't say too much from experience. But I did go ahead and purchase snorkel equipment after reading some posts here. The thought of chomped on snorkels was a little too much ;) If you go to the search box and type in snorkel equipment it will bring up several threads with you'll find very interesting, including tips on what and where to buy if you decide that's the way to go. Have a blast planning!

Hubby and I loved the raddison...it is very close to port..full of cruisers enjoying themselves the day before their cruise. The pool is very nice and their is music on friday afternoons to get you in the mood for cruising. We had lunch, dinner, and then breakfast the morning of the cruise at Grills...fantastic.

In Key West...we rented one of those golf carts that look like a space car and just cruised around..it was wonderful. You can head down to turtle Krawl, Bo's fish market (the best fresh fish sandwich you will ever have), hemingways house, the sunset party in mallory square, sloppy joes for a sandwich and great music, boarshead...just because, and plenty of shopping. Don't miss the kino sandal store..excellent. Hand made leather sandals for about $8 per pair.

In Grand Cayman...we didn't book an excursion..it was our first cruise and we preferred to check out the island, rather than having the day tied up with an excursion. We got off the ship right away in the morning, hopped a taxi tour (approx $15 per person) for two hours, they took us to the turtle farm, hell, past the first gingerbread house on the island, through some neighborhoods and offered to drop anyone who wanted to go, at the beach on the way back. They allowed plenty of time to shop and check each place out...it was wonderful...and I would definately do it again. Then we explored the downtown area on our own...a little shopping and talking with the locals..our two favorite places..rackhams and big bamboo. Both brewpub/restaurant type places, ocean side...a short walk up from the docking area. Very nice people, great souveniers...we had a blast. food delicious.

In Cozumel..again...we had never been there, so we didn't book an excursion..we wanted to check the place out. We took the recommendation of another cruiser from this board and headed to Mr. Sancho's..first thing when we got off the ship. It was wonderful...clean and beautiful. The food and service are excellent. We will definately go there again....hubby said he could have spent days there..lol. The best guacomole dip ever..again..a recommendation from a previous cruiser on this board. Then we grabbed a cab and headed back to town for some shopping and exploring....we started on the far end, in the forum shops...cigars for hubby, mojitos in the bar and then downstairs to the jewelry are for me. We got recommendation of a near by grocery store to purchase some tequila and vanilla..it was only two blocks further up the road..so that was excellent.
We did a lot more shopping and exploring...then decided to take all our packages back to the ship...get out of our sweaty clothes and come back out for some more fun and dinner. We had dinner at Carlos and Charlies...right across from the dock, it was excellent...and a lot of fun...your boys will love it.

have a great time!

We did the Western in May and loved it!

The Radisson is nice - we've done it before 2 different cruises. Very convenient!

In Key West we bought tickets for the Trolley off their web site and saved over the DCL excursion or buying them on site. The trolley is great because you can get on and off as you please. We did Southernmost Point, the Butterfly Conservatory, Hemingway's House and shopping up Duval Street. We also did the Key West aquarium.

In Grand Cayman we did the island tour and snorkeling with Stingways through DCL. Fantastic! We got to see Hell (a typical tourist trap), the Turtle Farm (loved it wish we were there a little longer) and the Stingrays (the BEST part of any excursion I've been on). I've heard great things about Captain Marvin's too for Stingray City tours. No matter how you go I would say Stingray City is a don't miss!

In Cozumel we did shopping in the morning and a tour to the San Gervasio ruins in the afternoon. Very nice and educational. We were a little tired and sun-burned from our Grand Cayman day so this was a good choice for us.

Wow! I just posted on here last night and was so excited to see a response so soon. Thank you so much!
My son 16, daughter 15, and I, are arriving by train to Orlando from St. Louis (2 1/2 day, 2nt trip itself). I have booked the Radisson Resort already, so was very glad to hear good reports about it. My husband, kids and I have done DW and Universal several times and love it, but have never cruised and I want this to be perfect :-) I am twice as excited after reading the experieces of Mary and Webray. And like Kathy, am having fun planning.
Also, spending the night in Orlando on the return trip home, so if you have any hotel suggestions (near Universal) that would be great. The planning is a little complicated since I am arriving via Amtrak a day early. Have to decide between rental car and town car.
That stingray city exc. looks amazing!
So, Anyone else cruising on Mar 27th (7 nt, Wstn) on the Magic?
Thanks to all for responding!:chat:

Hello everyone. Me and my family are going on our first cruise May 27- 30 on the Disney Wonder. We are all so excited it can't get here fast enough. We will be driving down from Alabama the day before we sail. Need to find a good place to spend the night at that is close to the Port.:earsgirl: :earsgirl:

Hotel near Universal = Comfort Suites on Major Blvd. New, Clean, great staff, free shuttle to Universal/IOA, very good breakfast (included).

If you and kids are interested in snorkeling, we had a good snorkel trip in KW (dcl excursion). We went out about 8 miles (on a fury catamaran) to a reef and snorkeled for about an hour. Lots of great snorkeling here.

Grand Cayman - we took another DCL excursion (shipwreak and reef) and we snorkeled right in front of the Magic in the harbor. For me it was the best snorkeling we had ever done. In GC the stingrey city sounds like a great trip. will do that when we make it back there someday.

To find out who's going click on the link at the top of the page (Cruise Meets) to get a "subthread/Forum" of cruises going on different dates.
