First Time Car Renter......

We're headed to Disney at Thanksgiving for 10 days, and we are planning to rent a car for a few days. The problem is that I've never rented a car before, and I have a couple questions.

1. We're probably renting for Alamo at the Car Care Center. We're looking at renting Friday 11/25 to Sunday 11/27 (or possibly Monday). The best rate I can find is $46 per night for a mid-size car. Is that a good rate? Or should I being trying elsewhere?

2. If we rent from Alamo, how do we get to the car rental desk? Do they pick you up from your hotel (we're staying at the POP)? If so, how do you arrange that ahead of time?

The CCC will be the easiest to rent from.

You should be able to do better price wise, join their insiders club ( free on the Alamo web stie) and check the cost as you get closer to your trip. Although it's not a bad idea to make a resi now so you have one, you can always cancel when you find a better deal.

To get to the CCC you call them between 24 & 1 hour before you want to be picked up and they send a shuttle.

I would NOT assume "you shold be able to do better" Look at those dates. Thanksgiving weekend... once again supply and demand. Incredibly busy time at Disney means demand is high so prices can go up.

You MAY do better, but... you may do worse. I would book what you can now and keep watching, but don't wait assuming "prices will go down"

I ran the dates when I read it last night it was about 125 bucks total or 5 bucks a day cheaper joining the insiders club.

Isn't that doing better?

I definitely agree to join the insiders club but i would also check prices at Alamo at the Dolphin Hotel vs the CCC - it is usually even cheaper. We booked a car using a BJ's Wholesale Club coupon about 3 months ago, joined the insider club a couple of weeks ago and they just posted a better coupon for insiders members than I originally got. You can still schedule a shuttle to pick you up too.

To rent from the Dolphin vs CCC has been about $3-4 diff each time I check. Find the November car rental thread and watch that. When people find great codes they will post them on their with the company and dates they are renting for. Following Octobers thread has me down from $233 for Oct 12-18 to $209.

Also check with your car insurance to make sure you are covered for rental cars so you won't need to get the rental car insurance which is expensive!
Most policies will have you covered, even some credit cards cover you.

Note that the only Alamo shuttle that will pick you up at Pop and drop you back at your resort or a park after the rental is when renting from the Car Care Center. If you use the Dolphin you have to get there and back on your own.
