Hi there! :goodvibesMy family and I are first time campers :banana:and want to camp this weekend...I had no idea that you can book a year in advance! It seems that there are some "walk-up" availability where we want to go. It says it is first come first serve...so what time should we show up to try to grab a spot? 7am? And if we get that spot, are they usually only good for one night since its a "walk-up" spot? I wish that I would have used my head and looked a lot sooner! Any help would be sooooooo appreciated! Thanks fellow dis'ers! :worship:

Where are you going? Most SP's in Nebraska will still have openings Friday morning, but it depends on the park and the weekend. When I do a walk-up around here I usually go Thursday evening to have more places to choose from. I'll pay for Thur-Sun, knowing I won't be there until Friday sometime.

The walk-in spot should be yours until check-out time the day you told them you are leaving. If I'm not sure how long we will be there I'll pay for part of it, then make sure that I pay for the additional night(s) before check-out time, when someone else may have staked a claim. Does that help?

Very nicely done BRD, :thumbsup2
Ditto to what he said.
I would like to add that camping only gets eaiser and better each time you do it.

And remember,, camping and fishing go together real well. :thumbsup2

If you're trying to go this weekend, get there early Thursday. Memorial Day, everything will be full, and earlier than most weekends. If you don't find anything at Mahoney, try Louisville. Not as many ammenities (Mahoney is kind of the flagship park for Nebraska) but the camping is just as nice. It's flatter too, easier for the kids to enjoy the bikes.

Thanks for the tip! :)If Mahoney is full, we will try Louisville. Should be interesting if it storms this weekend...first time in a tent!:rolleyes1 Oh well, we will be together having some fun!!:cool1:

Just checking to see where/if you got in anywhere. We're going to a church-run campground out-state this weekend, and had the ressies several weeks ago. Just curious to see how fast the SP's filled up.

Good luck with the weather. Basically, we have a chance of scattered rain/storms the whole weekend, but it looks like the worst chances are tonight and tomorrow. From what I see the chances decrease as we go from there.

My kids have always feared stormy weather, that was why we tried not to go out unless we had a good forecast while we were tenting it. We were at Louisville last summer in the tent and the kids slept through a pretty good thunder storm Saturday night. I couldn't sleep because I kept expecting them to wake up and panic. Even the dog slept thru it all. Go figure.
