First timer question!

I’m planning on booking a 4 night stay for the 2019 Princess Half Marathon weekend. We will be using points we received for 2017 and 2018.

I’m remaining optimistic that the event will still be held, but there’s a lot of social media discussion that it might be cancelled! If this happens, would I be able to cancel/reschedule without penalty? How does that work with banked points?

I apologize if this is a simple question, I’m still learning! Thank you!

Points need to be banked during the first 8 months of your UY. Your UY is not a calendar year. Points need to be available during the dates of your stay, not when you make the reservation. Banking moves points one UY forward, borrowing moves points one UY back. Banking and borrowing are final transactions and can not be reversed.

Sorry, let me try to clarify! When we signed up we received Sept 2017 UY points, so I banked them. I want to use my banked 2017 points + my Sept 2018 UY points to book 4 nights in February 2019. First question is, is this possible?

Then, if we book the room and then the run is cancelled (I’m hopeful it won’t be, but I’m just trying to run through all scenarios in my head!) and we decide to postpone the trip, will we lose the points? Can we transfer the points to a new reservation? Do we have a certain amount of time to rebook by?

I hope that this makes more sense!

You banked your 2017 points so they are now 2018 points. (Banking moves points one UY forward.)

Your 2018 points can be used for your February 2019 reservation since that date is within your 2018 UY. (Points need to be available during the dates of your stay, not when you make the reservation.)

If the reservation gets canceled, you can bank the actual 2018 points, the banked 2017 points will expire at the end of your UY. (Banking and borrowing are final transactions and can not be reversed.)

You can use the points on another reservation during your 2018 UY.

Perfect, so if we do end up cancelling we can book a new trip without losing any points, as long as it falls before Sept 2019. Thank you very much!

You'll need to cancel your trip no later than 31 days out. 30 to 1 day out points go into holding. Cancel the day of and you lose the points.

Correct.

And on the other note - it seems like a lot of nashing of teeth over the races these days. If anything is safe I'd bet it's the Marathon weekend in Jan and the Princess in Feb. And considering it was also said that races will be coming back to DL it doesn't quite seem like RunDisney is on the chopping block.

Agreed! I’ve been trying to remain positive but there’s a lot of drama and speculation over the future of the runDisney races. Unfortunately the more people talk without concrete answers, the worse things get! I was happy to see the website updated yesterday, and I’m hopeful that all of the events will continue as scheduled!
