First time back to the Fort in a long time! Advice please.

Looking for some advice. We haven't been to Ft. Wilderness in 10 years with a camper. We used to have a smaller rig than we have now and we are currently in a 40' 2" 5th wheel with 3 slides. We used to like to stay in loop 1800 as it was typically quieter and away from the hub of things. We typically would rent a golf cart and so location didn't matter to us. Wondering if those 50 foot long pads accommodate backing a longer unit in fairly easily? Any input from those that go more frequently? TIA.

Our 37' 5er fits nicely on the Premium sites, which the 1800 loop isn't, I believe. The only obstacle would be whatever tree/vegetation FW has growing opposite your assigned site. I've had to go back and forth numerous times on some sites trying to position the trailer while also avoiding the tree opposite. You won't know your assigned site until check-in, in person or online. Check out the Fort Fiends app. It has the difficulty ratings for all the sites, as well as some pics. You can get the difficulty rating while checking in and negotiate a site swap on the spot.

Thanks, I think I will go ahead and book a premium site. I know that sometimes the turn to back in can be tricky if there's a tree or something else that's just in the right (or wrong!) spot on the opposite side.

Just a word of caution:

Whether using an app or a website (WP is one I've looked at), setting a goal of getting a SPECIFIC site or two is generally an exercise in futility although it does happen occasionally. A site has to be empty the night before or a guest on it leaving that morning for you to be assigned (or swapped) to it and honestly, lately, the Fort has been staying more full than ever so the empty-the-night-before happens less and less.

So IMO going for a specific site is high-expectation-low-return.

A better option is to put a comment/note on your reservation (if you made the reservation on-line, call Disney and ask to have it added) that you have a 40' trailer with 3 slides. That way, whatever sites do come available for your site level and arrival day, they will have that information and pre-assign you a site that you can fit into. A size comment on a reservation is a common occurrence and has had a much higher success percentage. And if you get a Premium, it will be big enough.

One person's "favorite" site is another person's "eh" site . So I really want to dissuade you from getting hung up on a specific site. Add a comment and let Disney worry about it. It will work out.

PS - also the reference sources include a rating of how easy it is to back into. Regardless of where that recommendation comes from, again, a site rated easy may be hard for some. That feedback has been heard more than once here in the past...

I would like to think they actually pay attention to the size of your trailer on your ressie but my history with site assignments says otherwise. This January they tried to stick us in a site in 1900 that would be tricky for a small truck with a pop up let alone our full size, double cab 4x4 and 30ft trailer. The sad part is that after going back to the front desk and looking at their book there is no note of the obstructions on the sheet. The site is severely limited but yet no one at Disney realized that ?

I agree on not getting set on particular sites, chances are heavily against it. Your best bet is to provide your dimensions. Every loop has smaller sites mixed with larger ones.

Both options listed above are based off the FW book, I have seen the book on check in more than once when I was inquiring about which sites were open at my arrival time. A HUGE piece of advice:

The mentioned app also has a listing for "difficulty" for each site. It is absolute garbage. This completely depends on your setup.

For instance, in 2012 a particular site I chose was because it was listed as easy. It was FAR from it on a 35 foot TT, however, if I'd been in a FW, class A or C it would of been easy. I purposely looked at a few other sites listed as "hard" that as actually looked quite simple to get into. Please do not use that description to make up your mind.

Thanks everyone for the input. Lots of good info. I went ahead and booked a premium site so I know it will be long enough for the fiver and our dually. To be honest, we aren’t super picky about loops, and definitely don’t have any particular sites in mind, especially as it’s been 10 years since we have been there. We’ve had some tough sites to get into before (600 loop seems to ring a bell), due to a narrower part of the loop and strategic trees. Of course, I’m not the one backing it in. DH does a good job, I just wanted it to (hopefully) be as stress free as possible. Seems like maybe the campground is somewhat open as all types of sites are available except Meadows. We are going the last weekend of Sept.

Time to get the Mickey lamp post out and dust him off!!

We are looking forward to getting back there, such a fun place to camp. I just wish it were a tad closer for us. I have to admit I was really surprised how difficult it was to get a reservation. I started looking for Feb/March 2020 and struck out, so we are squeezing a trip in this year.

Dont worry about getting into any premium site. We drive a 45' coach and can get in any place. We were in 600 this spring and every site was OK. We will return in Oct/Nov and will take 600,700,800,or 900 and be happy. We have out favs but can always fight for them. Remember the rocking chairs fit everyone.
