First time at Grand Floridian Cafe

Mom and I took a day trip to WDW yesterday and part of our plans included dinner at Grand Floridian Cafe and, at least for me, it was the best meal I've ever had on property.

Despite being seated late, our server was really nice and attentive. We were seated in the back section, along the windows which resulted in a decent view of the MK fireworks.

I started with the grilled (yes, grilled!) romaine salad with grilled veggies and a lemon-coriander vinaigrette. It was served cold and you could really taste the grilled flavor in the lettuce. It was SO unique and different that I couldn't help but love it.

Main dish was shrimp and grits and, by golly, it was phenomenal. The shrimp were large, the sauce was fantastic, the grits were creamy. I was raving about it all night. I added on a side of scallops and they were incredible. Living in Florida, we can get good seafood at home, but this was one better than scallops at home.

Dessert was the chocolate fondue, which came with fresh fruit, angel food cake, and campfire toasted marshmallows. The pineapple was a miss for me, but the bananas in chocolate were great, the angel food cake was lovely, but the marshmallows in chocolate was divine!

Mom had the key lime pie tart which was beautiful and delicious. It was, as we agreed, tourist friendly. It was a good balance of sweet and tart. I think we tend to gravitate to key lime pie a little more on the tart side, but this was very, very good and the presentation was beautiful! Not keen on the mango sorbet on the side but whatever.

All in all, phenomenal meal! It was a bit pricey but worth it for the food. Pics coming when I can size them down to be a forum friendly size.

10/10 - would recommend

We ate at The Grand Floridian Cafe when we were there last month and it was really good. My husband and I both had the sirloin with scallops and it was great.

We ate there last month - party of 9 - and everyone loved it. My son got the chicken - the thing was the size of a football. He loved every.single.bite.

I was already full from a half week of Disney food, so I just got the cheese plate and the seasonal soup...which was a butternut with gingerbread crumble on it. Both were outstanding.

Yes, they seated us late too, 1 hr late to be exact!!! But the food was great I got the shrimp and grits dish and the termidor burger and they were both amazing

We had a fantastic brunch there in July. I proposed to my now Fiancee with the Cinderella Chocolate Slipper dessert. The staff there really made it special for us. We will dine there on each DW vacation going forward.

We had breakfast there on the last day of our vacation, we pixie dusted another family, and I had some delicious pancakes with orange and cranberry, they are not on the menu any more, which is a shame cos they were fab, I make something similar at home sometimes. it was also much calmer than many places, and the service was great

We have had quite a few christmas eve dinners at GFC. We just love being in the GF at Christmas time with all the decorations, the tree and carols singers, not to mention the gingerbread house. Our favourite used to be the lobster topped burger but sadly they changed the menu. However everything else we've ordered has been just as good.

Were reservations not made, why are people being seated late? As @Dreams&wishes posted, one hour late? I'm looking forward to doing a couple of earlier dinners there this trip, so we can return to the parks afterwards. So hope to not spend the entire evening there...

We were actually very upset about this and ended up calling the manager I had booked at 7 pm because we were hoping to go back to MK to watch the fireworks for our last night, but obviously we didn't. The food was very good and made up for it. We were also quite upset to see, once we went in, that there were quite a few free tables. They were just slow cleaning them up, or for some reason they didn't want a full house!

This is totally unacceptable, then what is the point of making an ADR. I’m sorry this happened to you on your last night, they should have offered you something for the long wait and missing out on your last evening at the park. I hope this isn’t something that happens often there.

Oh, we had an ADR for 7:45 but because of an ECV debacle that evening, I changed it to 8:05. I think we received the text that our table was ready around 8:20. I'm thinking with it pouring down rain, people didn't want to leave right away. Or there was a staffing issue.

But, our dinner made up for it.
