We've been DVC members since 1993 (now OKW). We've stayed at OKW more than 20 times since then and truly feel like home there. On 10/16 we leave (DH, DW, 2 boys (7 & 4)) for yet another great time but are staying at Saratoga Springs. I'd welcome any general opinions, resort tips, etc. as this will be the only time we've stayed away from OKW other than in 2003 at Beach Club Villas. Thanks and I'll gladly answer any OKW or general Disney or stay questions!

I haven't stayed at SSR but I bought there 2 weeks ago and spent the day at the resort after I bought.
I had lunch at the quick service, Artist Pallet and it was very good. The menu for the Turf Club also looked good. They had a nice bar with a very large TV and a pool table and everyone was watching football, looked fun.

The main pool looked great and at night they showed a movie on a big blow up screen. There was a nice pool bar also.
I walked by the spa and it looked nice and you get a discount there as a DVC member.

The grounds were very nice and they told me DTD was a 10 minute walk.

I also took the bus to MK for a test and I waited about 5 minutes for the bus and the ride was about 10 - 15 minutes. The SSR bus stop at MK is the second one closest to the entrance.

I can't wait until my first DVC stay in April.

My only "complaint" about SSR--as well as the other resorts--is that the units are smaller than those at OKW, our home resort.

I realize that I've been spoiled by the OKW units...........

We stayed at SSR for our first time last month. We loved it.
I had requested The Grandstand section a few months ago and also asked again at check in. We have three kids and I am going in for a third knee surgery next month in two years so I really wanted to try and make sure we were one of the first stops to be picked up so we always had a seat. That section was the first stop to be picked up and dropped off. There was quite a few times the bus was standing only by the time they got to the last stop. We never had any issues with the bus service. It was always quick to and from the parks. The longest wait we had was after MNSSHP on the 21st and that was only 20 minutes.
It was a very quick walk to the main pool. The quiet pool was right outside our door and the kids loved that one as well. The slide at the main pool is fun. My boys and Dh loved it. There is a great movie selection in Community Hall to borrow for free. We did that quite a few nights to help the kids unwind.
It is a big resort but, we never felt like we were lost in it.
We were very pleased with our stay there. We will be staying there again, no question.
Have a great vacation!!

Can anyone tell me if the Springs and Grandstand section have views to DTD or is Congress Park the best section for DTD views?

No DTD view from the Springs. Not sure about Grandstand. Based on positioning I would think that some rooms might but I think it is mostly golf course view. I'm sure someone who's stayed in the Grandstand can answer better on that one.

We stayed in the 85XX building of Grandstand last May, facing the golf course. Our view consisted of the golf course, the canal behind it, and past that, Cirque du Soleil.:thumbsup2 It was quiet, and it was gorgeous!
Having stayed at most of the WDW DVCs (not BC), IMHO, SSR's grounds are the best kept and the most beautiful. (Remember, just IMO :rolleyes1 )
We found the Grandstand location to be just about as convenient to the Carriage House area as the Springs (stayed there before, too), and the bus location made it a better choice for us! :goodvibes

Your living room and kitchen area will be smaller. OKW spoils people! Good information has already been stated. Other thoughts are that now you are close enough to DTD if you wish to walk. If not, you still have the boat and bus. If you like to walk, the sidewalks and paths are much nicer at SSR. Nice second 'themed' pool at Grandstand.

We really enjoyed SSR. Had several good lunches.Congress Park is the place to stay if you want a view of DTD.

I stayed in the Grandstand Section in June '07 and was very happy. Close to bus stop, new pool and easy walk to carriage house. Many great views of the golf course.

As you know, nothing compares to the room size at OKW.

We stayed for our first trip "home" at SSR last Thanksgiving and loved it! We were in the Paddock section and loved how convenient it was for the bus stop (and we were usually the first stop for both pick-up and drop off). We had several great meals at Artist's Palette. Have fun!

We just stayed there for the first time last week and we really loved the resort. We stayed in the Springs section and it was an easy walk to the pool and AP. Although the rooms are smaller than OKW, it is a small sacrifice to pay for such a nice resort. We are only 2 adults so the smaller rooms are no big deal.
