first solo, no parks

I'll be in WDW for 3 days next week for an interview. I don't plan on going to the parks, staying at POP. Only solid plan is watching Wishes from the Poly. What else is there to do? Is downtown disney worth hitting up if you don't plan on shopping? Resort hopping?

Downtown can be fun. People watching + Ghirardelli.

Also, The Boardwalk has a half way decent bakery now, more people watching, and in my opinion better restaurants.

Monorail crawl..,ride the monorail and have drink at all resorts on loop. Go to AKL for meal or drinks. Heard Sanaa is nice with view of animals. Mini golf, boardwalk area, jelly rolls, possibilities are endless.

Catch a bus to HS then hop on a Friendship boat to the Boardwalk. After, grab a bus to MK and take a ride on the Epcot monorail (RT). Once back, hop the resort monorail for some resort hopping. Then catch a boat to Ft. Wilderness and visit the animals. After you can catch a bus to DTD for some touring then a bus back to Pop.

I have done several runDisney events at WDW where I too didn't visit the parks at all. I like to take the boat, bus or monrail to visit the various resorts. At the resorts I may stop to have lunch/dinner depending on the time but mostly I am just exploring. I also find plenty to do at DTD during the day and especailly the evenings. Also some of the resorts in the late afternoon/early evening will give presentations like at Animal Kingdom Lodge which are free.

And for your other question, if I weren't going to do any shopping, I'd still visit Downtown Disney to watch the Irish tap dance show at Raglan Road, and maybe also to dine at one of the restaurants.

You can also read about the various resort restaurants and choose your favorites. 1900 Park Fare is worth a visit for character dinner or breakfast and great food.

It depends on what you are into:
sports: golf, fishing, RPDE, marathon, bowling, ESPN Club, WWS/ESPN Zone, etc
shopping: DTD, area outlet malls, large scale malls
drinking: Jellyrolls, Raglan Road, monorail tour of resorts, walking tour of resorts in the Boardwalk area
movies: DTD 24 screen theater some with meals served by waiters
night clubbing: Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance, Raglan Road, Citywalk
resort tours: monorail tour of resorts, Boardwalk around the lake tour of resorts, AKL/AKV
offsite: Gaylord Palms Resort, Citywalk, swamp tour

Do you like to pin trade? If so DtD is the best!!

They have the pin trading station which has the HUGE board that opens up at random times throughout the day... World of Disney has quite a few cast members in a contained area so there are easy trades there.

We also love the onion rings in Cookes of Dublin (beer battered? not sure. delish.) and the Baily's shake right outside at the bar!

Depending on where you're staying, I'll agree with riding the Friendship Boats, either at Boardwalk, going to Contemporary, FW, WL, or the ferry (yup, I rode the ferry without going to MK). I remember one night, the CM at the Friendship Boat, in order to make sure that everyone was heading in the right direction on the correct transportation, went down the line, asking everyone where they were headed. When he got to me, I said "For a ride on the boat!" While several people chuckled, the CM looked at me like "You Wisea****!" But that indeed was what I was doing. Also, one day I just rode on the buses, people watching, getting off and on another to resort-hop. Fun day!
