First Snake of Spring

I just saw the first snake of spring this afternoon; a young garter snake (I think). It startled me when it raced across my driveway as I was walking back from the mailbox. I have to admit, the ONLY thing I like about winter is I won't see any snakes.

I also don't like the fact that this was a young snake. I sure hope he is a long way from his mama, brothers and sisters.

Anyone else see any snakes yet?

We found a three foot long black snake in our yard a couple of days ago, near the trampoline. I had 4 kids on it, and they all screamed, "Help, help, help! We're trapped by a snake!". I came out, got him on a stick and escorted him into the neighbor's yard. Poor thing was terrified!

I found the first snake of spring IN my house a couple weeks ago. My cats were playing with what I thought was a lizard. I got a garbage bag so I could grab it & toss it outside. I didn't realize it was a snake until I had already reached down to pick it up. I knew if I hesitated it would get away & I'd be home alone with a darn snake loose in the house, so I forced myself to pick it up with the bag. It was a very small black snake but a snake is a snake and I don't want them in my house!

I don't blame the kids for being scared. Just seeing a snake sent me into a screaming fit when I was a kid, and I still don't like them now.

No, I'm not sure he wanted it but it's not a neighbor I particularly like, so there you go. Free snake!

We saw one almost a month ago. It was a tiny garden snake, and my grandma HATES snakes, and she screamed and kind of hid behind my little sister. . My mom and I were holding it and my grandma kept screaming, so we threw it into a bush.

I've already seen a couple of black racers. They've been on the small size though, only about 2 feet long. Great for keeping the bugs under control and fun to watch. Boy can they move.

While I'd be if I saw a rattler, any of the bug eating varieties are with me.

We saw a snake 2 weeks ago in the park. Actually the truth is we were out walking the dogs and 10yodd stepped on it as it was slithering across the path.

It was a beautiful Rough Green Snake, probably 1 foot long at the most.

I found one Sunday in the skimmer basket of our pool. Ick!

No snakes, but I did get trapped in the garage last week by a black widow spider that was right next to the door. I stepped out the door, looked down and there it was I jumped further into the garage and could not bring myself to try and get back in the door.

I hate snakes. And, I particularly hate rattlers. Shudder.
