"I'm the king of the highway
Prince of the boulevard." - The Aristocats
I don't remember much of what happened after school. Somehow I managed to drive myself home, though I have no recollection of doing so. The time at home is a blur of last minute packing and loading up the Armada to drive to the airport. Loading the suitcases into the vehicle is David's job, he is an expert at making lots of stuff fit into a small space. It's also his job to fit groceries into the freezer.

I do remember the air feeling like it was electric with our excitement.
Everyone except David changed into our travel outfits. The kids each had Mickey Mouse Club t-shirts with their names on them that I bought for them from zazzle.com and red athletic pants.
I wore black pants and a red polo shirt, Aunt Pat wore black pants and a red & white striped knit top. David did match us though he didn't know it, since he had on a black t-shirt with his jeans.
After all the luggage was loaded we didn't quite know what to do with ourselves since it was around 7pm and our flight didn't leave until 11:30pm. We were hungry for dinner but there was no food in the house. Knowing we would be gone for almost two weeks this was intentional. We decided to head to the airport, even though it was rather early for our flight, and get some dinner there. We all got in the Armada, the kids turned on "Invincible" and we were off.
David is actually in charge of all things having to do with airports and transportation. He travels much more often than I do, flying out of SeaTac several times a month for work. He knew exactly which parking garage he wanted to use and had even printed off a coupon to use. So 45 minutes later we pulled into the lot, hopped out and were immediately ushered over to the yellow shuttle bus by a very friendly young man.
The bus driver asked the kids if they were going to Disney(he actually said
Disneyland, but we didn't correct him.) Do you think the Mickey shirts, and the fact that Joey and Adam were carrying Mickey and Goofy was a give away?
Our first ride of our vacation and the Master Park employees started it off on a good note!
Sea Tac airport has electronic kiosks to self check in and get your boarding passes, this also falls under David's Jobs list, he got us all checked in there and then we marched up to the counter to hand over our luggage. Knowing that there is now a strict 50 pound limit on luggage we had weighed our bags before leaving, of course that was prior to throwing in the last minute items. All the bags were good, David's weighed in at 49.8 pounds! Bags checked, boarding passes and IDs in hand we headed to security check.
Now security always makes me nervous, my boys tend to get that deer in the headlights look and freeze when adult strangers question them. Joey especially tends to look to me to answer for him.
Case in point- Last March Joey was out playing in the woods, climbing trees, etc. He slipped and fell on a metal T fence post slicing a rather large crescent smile right under his left bum cheek. This required a call to 911 and a ride in an ambulance. Joey was calm and cheerful through out the whole ordeal. The paramedics commented on it, and even made a point of writing how calm he was into their report. Anyway to get to the point, I do have one, I was with Joey in the ambulance and the medic started asking him some questions:
Medic "Who do you belong to?"
Now Joey tends to over think things and I could see the wheels turning in his head on what this question actually ment, so many possible answers.
I said "Me, he's mine, I'm his mom."
Medic "What's your middle initial?"
Joey still pondering the first question points to me and says "Ask her."
Me "D, his middle name is David."
Next question, I think he was reading off of a list, "What day of the week is it?"
Ok this one made me smile, and honestly I was starting to find the humor in all this, the boys are homeschooled so days of the week aren't often relevant to them, and I was almost certain that Joey had no idea what day of the week it was.
Joey "Tuesday?"
I shook my head no.
"Wednesday?"
"It's Thursday Joe." I finally said.
One more question
Medic "Who is the President?"
Joey "George ........................ Clooney?"

The medic and I just started laughing.
Long tangent story to explain why security asking Joey questions makes me nervous.
Daisy and Aunt Pat had already gone through and I could no longer see them. David and I and the boys reach the security guard who looks over our boarding passes and IDs and then directly at Joey and barks "What's your name?"
Luckily Joey was so startled he actually answered quickly and correctly. Adam also got the name question right. Phew!!! We then sailed through the unload your laptops, take off your shoes, body scan hokey pokey.
Once reunited on the other side of security I began to relax and feel like we were on vacation. We headed for our boarding gate and in search of food for dinner.
