I listened to my first Podcast last week. I had to turn it off, to be honest, because it made me cry. The way you all talked about minorities was pretty sad. Nothing seemed funny to me, yet you folks were laughing hysterically. I had decided to listen to it, because of all the talk about Bob, and the fact that I had never listened before. My schedule is always so busy, with little time for such things.

It was shocking to hear what I heard, considering I thought I was listening to a family friendly podcast. I would not call last week's show family friendly, in any way, shape, or form.

The podcasters should know that immigrants do become doctors, and in fact, they do have medical schools in other countries. When you become a citizen of the United States of America, you are required to know US history. I would bet you that most every one of the new citizens that you took the time to belittle and laugh at, knows more about US history than you do.

So, I am sorry, but I won't be listening again.

I am so sorry you did not enjoy your first podcast... I would suggest giving it one more try and listening to a different show as we all may not always agree wiht what the team is saying the piece you listened to when it was originally broadcast was cut down significantly.

The team is a bunch of great people that do not judge but do tend to get silly some times. They were kind enough to share the outtakes of that day with us as part of a show not designed to educate people on Disney but to remember a dear friend.

I am sorry that was your first impression but I am sure if you listen to more shows you will find that although they cannot make everyone happy all of the time they are informative, entertaining and become a part of your family.

If you choose not to listen that is your choice to but it will also be your loss

Francine - May I make a suggestion? The "Bawb" show was a recap where Pete was highlighting some of Bob's greatest podcast moments. For someone who has never heard the show before, I can certainly understand how it could have been taken out of context and been construed as being derogatory. In fact, when the original show was aired, Pete edited it out. But the reason he included it in the "Bawb" show was (I think) because it showed what a great sense of humor Bob had that he continued to try to tell his great story about a wonderful event even though he kept getting highjacked by the team. Please give the podcast another chance - their hearts are really in the right place and I think if you listen to some older shows or start listening from yesterday's show, you'll see that for yourself.

I agree. However much you wanted to know Bawb, it probably isn't the best show if you are looking for informative Disney or if you don't really get the 'in' jokes. I am sure that what was said was not meant to be degroatory at all, but just the guys having a bit of fun 'off mic' as it were. Pete thought he would like to share it, but has now removed it.

I wouldn't give up on DisUnplugged just because of this one episode, but if you are looking for a sanatised and always postitive view of Disney, im sorry but this isn't going to be the place. I suggest you try Inside the Magic or similar podcast.

I'm lost as well... can anyone tell me what Francine would be referring to? I've been listening for about 2½ months, and I don't recall hearing anything bigoted or demeaning towards minorities. I can understand why someone would be a bit confused if they listened to the Bawb memorial show, and there are some "in" jokes/references in most shows that will take a few podcasts to understand, but they don't overrun the podcast by any means.

Perhaps we're just dealing with hyper-sensitive, politically correct snob, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt until I understand what she's referring to.

If one's time is so precious, I wouldn't spend it listening to the podcast. It's a casual, friendly podcast, not a rapid-fire (ha!) bullet-point news brief.

As a special ed. teacher (and as a human being), I, too was unbelievably offfended by this podcast's comments regarding not only immigrants, but people with disabilities, as well. I am ashamed of and for those adult commentators who chose to mock and laugh and incorrectly stereotype groups of people based on heritage or disability. I am just as disheartened by those who make excuses for the people making these hurtful comments, as it does absolutely nothing but hightlight these podcaster's belittlings.

Roll your eyes or call me an oversensitive, PC snob if you wish (and you may soon be calling me banned, as others have been for making their feelings known regarding this topic)--you're more than welcome to do so. But first, I'd invite any and all of you to come to my classroom for a bit of a litmus test. Stand in front of my students, their parents and loved ones and see if you have it in you to defend this podcast and it's commentators in front of just one of the groups of people who were targeted by it's nastiness. I don't believe, in good conscience, that anyone could do so. At least I'm hoping that anyone with a conscience couldn't do so.

I want to start by saying I'm an immigrant who will become a U.S. Citizen. I understand the work and sacrifice to become a Citizen. Whether you are an immigrant or a naturally born citizen; I believe one of the reasons we love this country is because of the freedoms and rights that are offered to its people. This country offers many opportunities to immigrant that were not afforded to them in their homeland. It is precisely why people choose to immigrated here.

Pete did warn of the "dark" content of the show before the show started and the content was edited out of original program; as listeners, we need to take heed of his warnings. Pete and the team are VERY respectful and conscientious of the listeners; people may not always agree with what is discussed on the show; but that is another wonderful freedom of this Country; we don't all have to have the same views and opinions but we can still respect one another.

Try not to pass judgment over a few minutes of jokes you heard. They were not said in judgment but were just jokes. Pete cared about the listeners and chose to share moments of the shows with us. It was not meant to hurt but to help heal the wounds of loosing a dear friend. I believe most of us admire Pete for doing that. As an immigrant; I was neither offended nor misunderstood the content of what was said during that show or any show I've heard to this day.

It's your freedom not to listen again. It is also your freedom to pass judgment and it's those freedoms that help make this country what it is; but I ask "isn't passing judgment exactly what you're accusing the team of doing?"[/SIZE]

I'm not calling anyone oversensitive or a snob, I merely mentioned the possibility as I have no idea what the original post is referring to. I would certainly hope no one would be banned on this board for expressing their opinions, no matter how critical they are.

I also work with children with diasabilities, and didn't find it offensive at all! I have heard a lot worse on these boards, and them taking the mickey out of the word 'special', which i think is slightly degrogatory anyway, didn't bother me in the slightest. I did flinch a bit at the word ********, but heck i hear it a lot, so it doesnt bother me so much anymore.

I just take it with a pinch of salt.

Plus isn't a lot of the segment based on jokes already made by Will and Grace?

Re-listening to it, i took it much more in the way that it was poking at how bad certain citizens in the US are treated, rather than directly laughing at them. Maybe thats me being naive, but thats how i saw it!

I listened to the show, and I am not sure I heard the issue in question. My only comment is that these are adults who have there own humor. And I'm sure that three of these adults have been the source of others humor in there lives. I am sure they are fully aware of what hateful words/coments can do. But thats my 2 cents.

And that's fine. I'll certainly respect your right to your feelings and opinions. But as one who is well aware of the entire, unedited broadcast (not saying that you or others didn't hear or read the unedited version), I am extremely offended. As were others who, yes, were banned for stating their opinions or posting the unedited transcript.

Wishspirit, you hear the word "********" in your line of work? That's surprising and certainly wouldn't be tolerated by our teachers or administration. And I can't imagine letting slide the use of that word in social situations. It's something about which advocates for people with disabilities have been trying to educate others for a very long time.

I don't want to derail and go OT, and I honestly don't expect to be around here to defend my comments much longer if I'm treated as some others were when they questioned this podcast's integrity. Francine, I'll just end this by saying that I agree wholeheartedly with you and many, many others.

This portion of the "Best of Bob" show was included, but later removed, possibly because the Podcast team had concerns over its content.

Pete did warn that this was NOT part of the original broadcast because of its dark humor.

I have listened to all of the podcasts aired by the DISUnplugged. I have always been impressed by the fair, thoughtful way that diverse and difficult topics have been dealt with.

I realize that this portion of the podcast was "off the mike." I thought it was humorous BECAUSE I realize how untrue these stereotypes are. The members of the Podcast team have certainly dealt with their share of truly mean stereotyping and discrimination.

You may decide to try listening to the podcast again; if not, at least enjoy the boards and the other posters here on the DIS.

No, we don't use it at work, i am pretty sure if any of us used it we would be out on our ear! I hear it a lot when we take the kids out into public eye or just in everyday use. I will sometimes ask my close friends not to use that word (i think i have only ever heard one say it anyway), otherwise i tend not to comment unless it is aimed at a disabled person. It does upset me, but most people don't understand why its bad, and unless i know them, i dont like going round lecturing people. Doesn't give off the best vibe!

I heard this particular Podcast the night it went up so I heard the whole thing and I guess I'm awful because I laughed. I was and am a fan of the Will & Grace show and seemed to remember some of the one-liners coming from that show. I also agree with a PP that said some of the Podcast members have possibly been in situations where they were the "source of others humor" so I can't see them verbally bashing people all willy-nilly.

Is it un-"PC" that I quote lines from "The Waterboy" even though I know people that are like Adam Sandler's stereotyped character, Bobby Boucher, and probably have some family members like the Boucher family?

I think (speaking completely from what I took from it) that it was aired in its entirety to show how Bob's things got highjacked so quickly and how persistant he was in trying to get things back on track.

I normally steer clear of these types of threads but I can't be the only one that is honestly driven to the point of insanity with political correctness. I think in that sentence alone I offended the insane, politicians and honest drivers. I truly feel bad for guys like Pete and other private media outlets who constantly have to tip toe around subjects to appease the masses. I see, hear and read things every day that I'm sure may be construed as inappropriate to myself or some other person but it's not my position to take them to task for it. Who am I to determine the context in which they speak. I have to agree with most on here that the podcast team was in fact referring to a previously aired sitcom episode that turned into a classic rapid fire hijack. I was able to hear the earlier released edited version and the newly released unedited version and I thank Pete for allowing us listeners to get an unedited feel for the roundtable discussion. I for one found neither offensive and to be honest was laughing quite hysterically over the segment. I can still picture the funny little hats. If that makes me a jerk...so be it. Move over Costanza, the jerk store needs room for the both of us.

If you don't like what you hear, turn it off.

Starting or reponding to a thread about how upset you are over the content of the Podcast is asking for flames. You could have personally e-mailed the Podcast team and explained your feelings, thus venting your concerns and not offending anyone. Instead you opted to post your feelings inviting responses, and that's exactly what you got.
