I believe I read on this board somewhere (can't find it now) that the first nights dinner dress code is come as you for lack or a better word. We have first seating and do not want to miss anything with the sail away party and all. It would stink to have to stop enjoying everything to go and get ready for dinner. Anyone know if this is true. My family and I will be dressed nicely when we embark. So I hope this won't be a problem.
Thanks for your help.

I would say as long as you aren't wearing a bathing suit, shorts, or jeans you should be just fine. Our first night only about 1/2 of our luggage had been delivered by the time it was first dinner seating so we just went in what we wore on board the ship which was capri's for my dd and myself and my 2 boys wore nice chino shorts with a collared shirt and my husband (the only smart one) had packed some nice pants and a shirt in his daybag so he threw those on right after the lifeboat drill before the sailaway party and we felt just fine. We did see a few people in jeans and t-shirts that night but most were in the same kind of clothes as me and my family. We make sure we wear semi-nice clothes that first day onto the ship so if our luggage doesnt make it we are still presentable to go to dinner.

We had all our bags by 4:30, right after the lifeboat drill, but we had late seating. I think just about anything would be acceptable the first night.
But I was entertained my entire cruise by a couple several tables away who the entire trip wore shorts, except formal nights when they wore sweatpants!!! Disney never said a word. Husband always seemed to sent back his first entree choice. I heard him gumble about the Beef Wellingston, wondering why anyone would put pastry around a piece of meat!!!!

Some peope just aren't happy unless they are miserable.

They obviously put alot of thought and effort into thumbing their nose at they system, sweats on formal night, please.

I must admit DH isn't thrilled that he can't wear a nice shorts and a linen s/s shirt, on a vacation to casual dinners. But he is going along with it.

Although we are in Parrot Cay the first night and have main seating. I have a feeling that there may be alot of folks in shorts, because of luggage arrivals, and the theme of the resteraunt.

**Interesting note, a neighbor of mine just came back from a cruise and didn't realize you were asked not to wear shorts to the resteraunts on the casual nights. She got her docs and when the item about dress codes she skimmed it assuming it said something to the effect that you need to wear a shirt, shoes no bathing suits. She never heard of these boards and was amazing at the knowlege I had before cruising.

Sweatpants?!? Sounds like the woman I work with. When they go to Las Vegas they take their "dressy sweatpants". Somehow I don't think dressy and sweatpants belong in the same sentence.

Geez!! I'm embarressed for people like that. I just hope to God that we don't get seated with anyone who would wear that. I can see me and my two DD's wearing nice formal dresses and DH in a tux seating right next to a couple in their SWEATS! ECK!!!!!!!!

As Heidi said as long as you aren't in shorts, jeans or swimsuits you'll be fine for the first night.

On one of our cruises we ate alone at a table for 4 the first night. The other couple showed up the 2nd night and said they didn't come to dinner the first night because they got their luggage late and didn't have their good clothes. It was only a 4 day cruise so they missed out on 1/4 of thier dinners.

Come to dinner and enjoy!

I can understand wearing a nice pair of chinos and collared shirt, but sweatpants, especially on formal night. I plan on wearing a nice pair of capris with a sleeveless sweatershirt and then if my luggage isn't in my room, thrown on a matching sweater and I'm ready to go.

I posted a thread a while ago asking the same question, as i was concerned that we would miss the fun as we would have to go and get changed for main seating.
The reply's i got were that the first night wherever you were dining were informal.
I hope the info is right, as were only doing the 3 day cruise and it will help me decide what to pack as we are flying in from the U.K the night before, so I want to pack for the 3 day cruise seperately from the rest of our 3 week holiday.
I don't think the cabin would take 3 and a bit weeks worth of luggage +2adults and 2 kid's !! so were going to leave our other luggage in the boot of our car/hotel reception.

Anyway happy cruising.

chucklechops (what a great name:D ) Your plan is very good. I would bring as few bags on to the ship as necesary because storage space is NOT plentiful. Keeping the bulk of your luggage (for the rest of your vacation) with the car is a good idea.

Sweatpants !?!? That is so sad it's funny...I'm sitting here laughing by myself ! I realize most of us are on a budget, but if you can afford to take a cruise, please respect others by dressing according to the guidelines. And that goes for tipping. If you can afford to travel, you can afford to tip !
Anyway, you have to return to your cabin after the drill to put your lifejacket away.It doesn't take but a minute to put long pants on.But if you haven't received your luggage by all means come as you are !
