Has anyone been to First Monday Trade Days in Canton, TX? With the plan savy bunch on this forum I figured someone would have some good advice about this event. We are going in November, 2011 and I wanted to get opinions from others on this. We have never been before and I am bringing my Mother-In-Law who can walk for limited amounts of time before she needs to rest.

We plan to stay in Shreveport, LA a few nights and make a day trip to Canton which is about 2 hours away. Is it correct to think that we could see most of the place in one day or should we take 2 days?

Any advice on where to stay overnight if we do decided to stay in Canton?

I've been to Canton several times. It is okay as a day trip, you won't see everything but that would be hard even with 2 days. We just go until we are tired and call it a day.

There are some hotels in Canton but they are priced higher for 1st Monday's. I know some people stay in Terrell but it is west of Canton so probably not a good choice for you, maybe Tyler or another town east would work out better.

Canton in November is filled with Christmas shoppers, be prepared to go early and for crowds. They have places you can rent scooters probably a good idea for someone that has a hard time walking.

They start setting up by 8am and you'll be able to park much closer if you get there about that time.

If you want to meet up with people there plan a place before you go, when we were there this last November on Saturday cell phones did not work. They usually do but I think the system was just over loaded.

Thanks Janette for the response. It will help out a lot. Sounds like Disney in that you can't see it all in one trip :) We may rearrange the trip to stay around Canton and just stop in Shreveport on the way home??? Either way I appreciate the info.

I haven't been in years but a lot of my friends like to go on Fridays.

I agree with Janette. The place is huge and it would be very hard to see it all in two days. The accomodations as far as rest rooms have improved over the years but I don't know if there are more places to sit and rest. I would seriously consider a scooter for your MIL. Definately sunglasses and/or a hat with a nice brim. Sometimes November can be quite warm.
