First haircut in MK?

On our next trip to Disney we plan to get our daughter her first haircut at the barber shop in Magic Kingdom. She will be turning 3 and has long curly locks. We love her long curls but it is always in her face and she is resistant to barrettes so we plan to just have bangs cut. I have very straight hair so I am pretty ignorant about taking care of curls. My question here is this: will the barber in MK be able to give her a good stylish cut or should we skip them and go to a salon elsewhere? Also with curly hair can she even wear bangs?

The barber shop does very simple cuts.If you are concerned in anyway I would go elsewhere. That said i have yet to hear complaints.

Can't answer the question about the MK barber but as somebody who has naturally curly hair I can answer the part about the fringe (bangs). You can have a fringe when you have curly hair but from experience try and keep it a bit longer, this way it won't shrink too much in the damp or wet. Would your DD wear little hair grips to sweep it to the side or pin it back?

Thanks, we really want a simple trim of her bangs so I feel like it's not complex.

My husband is starting to chicken out, he really likes the long curls. "It will stop falling in her face soon" he says. So I guess we'll work with hair clips until we go next month.

What a precious idea! I wish I had done that for DS's 1st trip. He was only a little over 1 yr old at the time. A simple bang trim shouldn't be a problem for a pro! Go for it! Hey, maybe they'll even give you something to remember the event by.

We did DD#3's first haircut and I would agree with OP - very simple job (she has poker straight hair) and they didn't do the best job but we have pictures and she'll always be able to say she got her first haircut at WDW.

We did this for my DD who was 18 mo at the time. They did a fine job, we got a full haircut for her. Even though she reeeaaallly didn't want to have it done, they did make it special with stickers and "mickey dust" etc. She got a certificate for having her 1st haircut done there in the MK and a special pair of Mickey ears. I highly recommend doing this if you can!

They also cut my son's hair that day and there was a woman there w/her son who lives in the area and goes there as her regular hair place! I thought, what a lucky kid.

Im looking forward to getting our dd 2 1/2 her first hair cut at the Main Street Barber Shop. Dh, ds and dd have been before and it is a great experience. I am a bit worried about how the haircut will turn out, but feel like I have to do it for memories- it will grow back out if they make a mess of it! I am going with instructions from our hair cuttin girl here at home:thumbsup2

DD has very curly hair and I was really afraid to get her hair cut for the first time. We got it done at 2 at the MK. It was a wonderful experience. I kept telling the lady, please don't cut off her curl, I hear stories about kids who get their curls cut off and they never grow back. The lady assured me that the curls were here to stay. She gave a great trim, DD got 25 stickers and mouse ear that said "first haircut" all for $15.

Loved it so much her next 2 haircuts were at the MK barber shop. If you pm me your email, I can send a few photos of the experience and how DDs hair looked.

We had DS2 hair cut there, at 4 he has had lots of cuts, and enjoyed the `magic` of having it cut in Disney.

They did a better job then most of the stylists we have gone to around here. And she talked to him and really relaxed him.

Just an FYI, they no longer give out the Mickey ears for free. You now have to buy your own.

Got our youngest son's first haircut at the MK Barbershop. They did a great job on a pretty simple cut. It can be a long wait, so you might want to check in when you first enter the MK to see when it opens. If it is busy just send somebody back throughout the day to check on wait times.

I can't remember if we paid for the Mickey ears that said first haircut or not. All in all a great experience for Mom and Dad, our son was 15 months old at the time and he may have disagreed. The woman that cut his hair was fantastic and they really try to give you a magical Disney experience as the do it. I just wish we had known about it for our oldest son. The pictures and memories are priceless.
