For all you parents out there who have VERY active kids, maybe you can give me some advice. My DD is 2.5 and has yet to have her first haircut. I was thinking about getting it done at MK this weekend. I'm sure they are good with kids, but has anyone had a difficult time with their child? She just had her ears pierced a couple of weeks ago and I'm worried she will think the haircut is going to hurt. Any advice? Thanks!

We had DD's (2 year old) hair cut last fall. We too were worried about her squirming around, as she didnt like getting her hair combed. I went first and got my hair braided, so DD would see that it was OK. That didn't work very well, but the stylist, Billie, got out a Tinkerbell light chaser, stickers, and bubbles to distract DD. Another little girl who was waiting her turn helped distract DD also. I think once DD realized it was OK, she was fine. Billie did a great job and was very patient with DD.

Try letting her sit on your lap while it is being cut. DS freaked the first time he was in a chair to have his hair cut. Next time he sat in grandma's (yes I refused to go back) lap and did great!

DS has had his hair cut by the barbers at MK twice now and both times they were great. They are very comfortable around kids of all ages and do really well entertaining them so it's a fun experience. I highly recommend it. If I could get his hair cut there every time I would. Too bad it's a 6-hr flight LOL.

We love to get our kiddos haircuts there.

One trip, our twins (ages 20 months at time) got cuts at same time by both barbers. Dd had a female and ds a male.

However, our ds is very shy/scared and would NOT sit still. His sister was easily distracted with the bubbles, millions of stickers, etc. However, ds cried and the barber would not cut his hair, too squirmy he said. He also said no sitting on the lap due to liability, etc.

But, when dd was finished, the lady who did her hair allowed us to put ds on my dhs lap and cut his hair that way. The male barber wasn't too happy about it either. We didnt ask for this, she just offered and of course we took her up on it. But, it is not their policy to allow lap sitting, so be prepared for a possible no if he won't sit alone.

Now when we go we get the lady (forget her name but she is wonderful) and my kids all love her and sit fine while she smothers them with stickers and pixie dust.

They do get very crowded and its first come/first served, no appointments, so go early or go late :flower:

DO IT

I NEVER thought my ds would sit still for a haircut when he was 2 -
the ROCK at the Barber shop -
They stuck stickers ALL OVER him and he was so busy pulling them off - playing with tthem I don't think he even noticed they were doing it -
same thing this least trip when I had dd's first hair cut there (funny thing is I didn't think she really even needed one - but for the sake of doing it as who knows how old she will be when we get back to the world - and they actually made her hair look better!

anyone ever have their child's firts haircut done when they were 4 almost 5? My DS may need one by then. He has really NEVER had one. he was completely bald til he was 2 yrs old and his hair is growing in very slowly. MY other DS who is 1 wil need his haircut at the same time. will the 1st haircut ears fit my 4 yr old?

Patty, you are right, her name is Marah. I dug out the scrapbooks and looked at the haircut certificates :sunny: Can't say enough good things about her.

pyrxtc, one of our dds didnt get a first haircut until 3+ yo because she was saving it all for locks of love (has watched her older sisters save and donate their hair). She got her first haircut there, the ears fit fine on her. So hopefully they will fit your 4yo too.

When we were there we got both boys haircuts. DS#1 was 3.5 (not his first) and DS#2 was 7 months (and way overdue as he was born needing a haircut). DS#1, who was bald until he was 2, was no problem. DS#2 was a headache.

No matter what the barber did, he wasn't going to cooperate. The barber was able to trim it up so he at least looked like a little boy, but there was no style. We still got the ears (infant/toddler size--and they do fit DS#1 and he is quite tall for his age) and certificate. The barber also didn't charge us full price for it.

We took him to a child's stylist place a couple of weeks when we got home and he still through a fit, but they had more experience with uncooperative children. When we go back next week, the boys need haircuts again and we will have DS#1 get his cut there (loves the color, the Mickey, & pixie dust), but I'll get DS#2 cut before we go (he needs a cut every 3 weeks and STILL won't cooperate).

I would try either way. It certainly can't hurt and if all goes well, or even if it doesn't, you won't regret it. It's really a special treat. Extra special when it is the first haircut.
