I know I have seen something about this on the boards before but for some reason I can't search so I'll just ask. Anyone know where you can get a special first haircut at Disney? I'm looking for a place where they won't get annoyed if I take a couple pictures and maybe hand out a certificate or something. My daughter is getting in desperate need of her first haircut and I would love to do it at Disney if possible. No place around here does anything special for a first haircut or is specifically geared toward kids (that I've found anyway) Any help would be appreciated! If we can do it at Disney I'll stick with barrettes til we can cut in, if not, I'll suck it up and just take her someplace for a trim. Thanks again!

You can do a first haircut at the Main Street Barber Shop in MK. We did it with both of boys. They give them mouse ears that say first haircut and a certificate. It's a lot of fun and makes it very memorable!

I did the first haircut for DD two years ago at the MK Barber Shop (she was 18mo back them). It was pretty cool, we didn’t allowed the barber to do anything different with her hair, just a trim, but she got the "First Haircut" Mickey Ears, the certificate and the barber also saved the first lock of her hair cutted for us.
We did that as soon as the park opened so we were the first ones there, it was fast and we didn’t have to wait!

Yes the MK Barber Shop is a great place to get baby's first hair cut. They truely make it magical. They start with mickey stickers all over your little one to distract them, give you bubbles to blow, save the first hair locks, certificate, mickey ears--- and you can take as many pictures as your camera will snap.
Wait till disney for the haircut, you won't regret it!!!

DD9 was in desperate need of a haircut last week when we were there and I forgot to look for the barber shop!:rolleyes1 I got so excited seeing all the characters and "plotting" our route that I didn't see it. Where is it located? I'll have to do it for sure in 2009!

At Magic Kingdom, as you as you enter through the tunnel its on your left. There's a classic barber shop pole in front. Its quite small and its a wait your turn thing, so we went shortly after park opened one morning and only had a 15 minute wait. It was well worth it for the first haircut!:yay:

We wanted to get our DD18 months first haircut at Disney as well. I kept telling everyone she'll get her first haircut at Disney. It didn't happen. :sad1: Both days I went to see about the wait...at least 5 or 6 people were in line. When I asked people how long they had been waiting the ones in front said it was about 30-40 minutes per person (the ones in the chair) YIKES!! I didn't want to spend my visit to Disney waiting in line.
My suggestion maybe would be to try going early.
I'm so sad we didn't do her hair.....I hope you can get your DD's haircut at Disney....how neat that would be.....Good Luck

My son had is first hair cut there when he was like 8 months old (not that it needed much trimming, but if he was going to get a first cut, that was the place to do it).

They are great with kids, and super good with the camera flashing parents. I had a fun picture that I can't find right now to post, but his "barber" was a she, and she posed with a huge scissors as a funny photo op. I think we had some "pixie dust" sprinkles put in his hair so everyone knew he had been there that day. Got a certificate and his First Haircut ears that we still have and he is turning 5 this weekend.

Since then he has been back there almost every trip we take and they give AWESOME haircuts in general, and often while you hang out and wait, not only do you get to chat with some cool people, but sometimes get a private concert from the Barbershop Quartette that roams mainstreet.

I agree to get there early, or maybe around parade times if you don't mind missing a parade. We usually have a placeholder (dad) wait in line, and then we phone back and forth when it is getting close while DS and I shop on mainstreet or something to keep him busy.

Hope it works out for you!!

You need to be there first thing or the line does get long. However, when we went whole families would be waiting in line for one person so the line looked longer than it really was.

We had DS first haircut there. We were doing great until Miss Penny got near his ears. DS is very ticklish. He started squirming and crying. That stylist worked w/ him for almost 30 min. I was ready to leave but she worked until the hair was even. I was happy w/ it. We took in some mini pretzles to bribe DS with and they had stickers and bubbles there.

DD had her first hair cut there the a week ago. She had a good time and looks much better! Older DD got a trim, which we'll be going to get fixed locally - it doesn't look so good, lots of long parts and uneven stuff.

Here's a pic from DD's first cut.

The key to not waiting too long at the Harmony Barbershop is to get there first thing in the morning. The only haircuts that my girls have had has been there (it helps that we're here in central FL). The staff is really great, and they really make the haircuts a lot of fun!!!

DD had her first cut there at 2 year 3 months. :) It was awesome and well worth the $14 I mean the hat alone is over $7.

They didn't mind pictures at all. Michael who is there alot I take it(is also in belleboo/Jessica's pic) did hers he was great with her even though she cried. He took the time to try to get her warmed up to him before he even started and used probably a half roll of stickers on her. :rotfl: She had them all over for hours. He wrapped a lock in tissue paper and sprinkled in some "pixie dust" confetti and of course they get the mickey ears hat that says 1st haircut on it.

My step mom cut the bangs shorter the next week. I didn't really want to get them cut and was why I asked him to trim them but leave them long. I tried to get her to keep pig tails in but she'd pull them out and I was scared to do clips because she was still putting things in her mouth a lot.

:thumbsup2 Well worth the time and money even if its not the best cut. Babies that move are really hard to trim.

Oh and we went first thing in morning and didn't even wait 10 minutes.

I had DD (2) and DS (1) have their first haircuts together at the Harmony Barber Shop and it was the cutest thing. I am so glad I waited to have it done there. Here are my scrapbook pages from the day:

We arrived at the Barbershop around 4pm and walked in with no wait so both kids were able to get their first haircuts at the same time. If you can't get their first thing in the morning definately try in the afternoon during or after the parade... We were there in September so I am sure it also helped that it was the slow season though.

I had both of my kids first haircuts in WDW :earsboy: :earsgirl: and I wouldn't change being able to say that for the world.

I got a nice shawdowbox at Michaels Arts & Crafts to display the ears and keep it in the home office.

Thanks everyone for the great advice and great pictures. I'm definately going to hold out for Disney, only 6 weeks or so to go!!!

Go for the Main Street Barber Shop! Each of my girls have had their first haircut there. Michael & Maria are wonderful. And they really do make a big deal which is great. The wait sometimes is long but worth it. DH gets his hair cut there on every trip. A tradition in our family.

DD 11 1/2 months just had her first haircut at the Main Street Barbershop last month! I am so glad that we had it there! We arrived early and ran over to be first in line. It took about 5 minutes before anyone arrived after us. We had MaryLou and she was great! DD sat there and was very content playing with the stickers they gave her. The ears they get are soooooo adorable!!! :cutie:

Main Street Barber Shop is a defnite must!! Had our son's 1st haircut there at 15 months - they were wonderful. We plan to have our dd's 1st cut there on our next trip.

Before... a little baby...
