Our first trip as DVC members is coming up in July!

What unexpected tips, perks, etc should we know about? Do we have to bring our DVC member cards with us, or will that info be tied into our Magic Bands? Thanks!

You will need to show proof of discount (AP Card/AP Discount Card/DVC Member Card/TiW Card/etc.) and an Photo ID to receive any available discount.

I don't know about unexpected - depends on if you read your member perks document, I guess!

I definitely suggest asking if you get a discount pretty much anywhere on Disney property - at worst they'll say 'no'. But the candy stores give the discount, even on the Boardwalk, which I know I took full advantage of. A lot of the food kiosks don't, but the sundry stores at most of the resorts do. So bring the card and ask! And have a great trip!

I understand your excitement! We are taking our first DVC trip in June and I'm also interested in knowing any last minute tips.

"Member Perks" is a document you can get from the DVC Member site or from the front desk when you check in. It lists all the discounts for DVC members. There are shopping, food, and activity discounts.

This was my rookie mistake on our first trip. I didn't think to present my DVC card for most meals. So do yourself a favor and just get in the habit of handing all your discount cards to the person so you don't forget.

We probably missed out on about $200 worth of discounts because I failed to do this at Aulani. I just assumed the discount would be taken out automatically because "DVC Member" was on our room key.

Yes, I don't know if they still do this, but when I have brought guests that were in a different room, their key also said "DVC member". So I assume that's why you still need to have a physical DVC member card to show for a discount. If you look closely at the perks document, it makes a point of stating "member and up to 3 guests" or "member and immediate family" so I believe they're trying to cut back (or just proactively prevent) situations where people who've rented points take advantage of the DVC perks.

There are no more KTTW cards, so no more DVC Member designation for renters. Member Discounts were never supposed to be extended solely based on a notation on the KTTW card.
