Ok everyone,

We are off tomorrow for our first DVC stay ever. We are staying at AKV for a short 30th birthday trip. Is there anything special that we need to know or do? Do you check in at the same place as you would if you were staying at AKL? Anything else I should know?

Thank you so much,

Jamie

Have fun!

Yes, you check in at the same place as if you were a cash guest. So if you'll be in Jambo House, you check in there; if you'll be in Kidani Village, you check in there.

Most importantly -- try the Zebra Domes from Mara (QS) or at the buffet restaurant. Totally delicious.

Are you driving? Parking may be (is) a long way from the door. You can't use a bell cart. If you have much stuff to take to the room, you pretty much have to have a bell CM help you unload and if your room's not ready, call them to bring it up later. (No problem if you're using ME -- the luggage will eventually be delivered to your room --maybe an hour or two after you've arrived, or when your room is ready). You can leave your car neat the door for a little while if you get a room upon check-in, you may be able to take your own stuff up. (I just bring this up because getting in and out of AKV can involve various tips to bell people, which can add up).

You are most likely to see animals from your balcony at feeding time -- which was about 10:30 a.m. for the unit and time I stayed there, but you can also see them from other places about the hotel at various times (take binoulars for close-ups).

AKL/V is huge -- can be challenging to find your way around. If you use the bus to go to a park, make sure you understand which stop you are to use (I came back late in the evening and by mistake got off at Kidani, when I was staying in Jambo -- felt like a much longer walk than it probably is early in the day to go between the two)

Plan time to enjoy the resort -- there's a lot to it. It could be a destination all by itself. Pay attention to all the details and explore all the corners.

You might want to pack a flashlight and a nightlight (but not necessary). If you eat cereal, bring your own -- selection is limited and expensive (ignore that if you're on the dining plan).

Have a GRRRRRREEAT time!
