First DVC stay - Boulder Ridge Villas (And 2nd BRV stay one year later.)

@tx911 I know our trips overlapped a bit. Which days were you in the parks? I wonder if we overlapped at all.

I'll be writing about each day and adding some pictures. So you'll have to look for yourself in the background if there's overlap! (I once found myself in the background of someone's Disneyland pictures. Ha!)

Here's our day to day breakdown for this trip....

(So, TX, any overlaps with when you were there??)

We ended up getting a super late start every single day. I'm sure rope droppers would clutch their pearls to see the times we ended up getting there each day. 🤣 But it's what works for us. And we still managed to do pretty much everything we wanted.
I was wondering how your trip went! We ended up taking a short kind of unplanned trip to FL over this past weekend, we were at Epcot on Friday, too! I thought it was pretty busy, but I normally go at the beginning of September. Was at the WL, looks like they are doing some work on the roof of the main building. I'm not a rope dropper, either. I tend to get to the parks around 11am, I'm not an early morning person and I've been to the parks literally thousands of times (used to be a CM years ago). Hope you are feeling better!

Thanks. Still feeling pretty awful. I think it's "just" a cold. But when I get sick, it sadly tends to stick around forever. I was sick for half of November and pretty much all of December. I have an autoimmune disease and take an immunosuppressant medication so it really sucks.

I wonder if we crossed paths in Epcot! We got there around 11:45am on Friday. Left around 2:45. So we weren't there very long. Just road Spaceship Earth, Figment, Ratatouille, and had lunch at Sunshine Seasons.

I felt like it was pretty crowded the entire week. A decade ago, January was pretty quiet. But not so much anymore!

We may have crossed paths! We got to Epcot around 11:15, we stayed until about 8:45pm (got out before the rush). Ate at Regal Eagle, was not so great this time, should have done Sunshine Seasons. Didn't sample many of the festival booths as the lines were pretty long. I met up with friends and spent some time at the DVC Member Lounge, that was nice. We went back in the evening and they had characters there, the Lounge was almost empty. I think it was only open for people who purchased the membership extras. It was a good day, I'm used to being there in the August/September timeframe, so temperatures in the 70's was welcome. Especially to escape the cold Boston weather! I think we'll be back at the beginning of May for a few days and then I have 12 days in September that will be more vacation oriented. Looking forward to that!

We didn't do any of the festival foods. Honestly, didn't even look at them. Definitely crowded and our son struggled with lines. So we stuck to quick service and mobile orders. The weather was actually a bit too hot for me the last couple days.

Day 3 - Monday, January 27th

I know my "reports" are pretty dull since I'm mostly just listing off every ride we did. But that's pretty much all we do on our trips.

On day 3, we didn't wake up until 8:45am. We went down to get breakfast and this was the day I mentioned earlier that had no coffee available. People were getting pretty frustrated with this. But we just went and had crummy coffee in the room instead.

We were out waiting for the bus around 10:40.

Our son finally fits into the WDW shirt we bought him last year!

002.jpg

Got to Epcot at 11:15. It felt pretty crowded to us on this day. First we went to do Living with the Land. The wait ended up being 20-25 minutes which is really pushing our son's limit. Thankfully we got on before a major meltdown occurred. The line was so tight and snaked back and forth a lot. There was this one couple in line that gave us major "stink eye." The woman had an actual curled lip scowl at me when we passed by her (twice.) The 2nd time, she gave me the look, nudged her husband/boyfriend, whispered something to him...then he looked over and scowled too! I have no idea if it's because we were wearing masks or because they saw my husband's "protect trans kids" shirt. Either way....they didn't look too pleased with us....which I thought was funny.

After Living with the Land, we used a DAS return for Spaceship Earth. When we had arrived at the park, I think it was a 30 or more minute wait, which is too long for our son so we were thankful for DAS. By the time we were done, he was ready for lunch. We planned to get burgers in the America pavilion and instead of making the long trek, we took the Friendship boat across, which was nice. We placed our mobile order and then struggled to find anywhere to sit. We had hoped to sit outside but there was nothing. So we went inside and thankfully saw a table opening up. This happened a lot on the trip. Quick service places never have enough tables and while I like mobile ordering, I think it's a big part of the problem. So many people, like us, just waiting for their order to be up. (Well, and then people lingering is also a problem but I get it....everyone's tired.)

We ordered an adult burger for our son. I got myself a kids burger because I like the smaller ones. It was pretty terrible though. Had one last year and I remember it being better but maybe I was just so hungry last year that it seemed better. Ha! Our son ate most of his....then.....he ate french fries! This was a big deal. Over all these years, we've always offered him fries and even put some on his plate. At home, on vacation, etc. He NEVER eats them. He's maybe taken a bite or two in all his 11 years on this earth.

He picked up a fry and smelled it. I pretended not to notice him and just watched out of the corner of my eye. Then...he took a bite. And finished it! And went back for more! He ended up eating a bunch of them. And this continued on the trip. He ate them several more times. He doesn't really eat many fried foods and he's in the roughly 1-percentile or maybe 2-percentile for his weight. So we were pretty excited. He also ate his entire burger (minus the garlic toast that it came on) and 4 slices of watermelon. So proud of this kid.

003.jpg

Once we were done, our DAS return for Ratatouille was up and thankfully, it didn't break down this time. Our son remembered the ride and after the first kitchen scene he said "broken" and I wasn't sure what he was talking about. Then I realized, he must have though the wet mop was during that scene. Then when we got to the ACTUAL mop part, he remembered and ducked his head. He ducked for the cork too. He's not a fan. But overall, he loved the ride and laughed a lot.

He didn't want to go on Frozen and it was already after 3. So he wanted to take a break. First we went into a bunch of art booths and I bought a lot of post cards. I'll need to figure out a good way to display them all. We headed towards the bus stop around 3:45.

004.jpg

Got back to the room at 4:30. Relaxed for a while. Then took the bus to Hollywood studios and arrived around 6:15. The sky looked really pretty.

005.jpg

The first thing we did was head to Star Tours, one of our son's favorites. The wait was only 5 minutes.

We had dinner next and just ate at Backlot Express. Our son said he wanted the chicken strips but he didn't like the breading. We helped him pick it off the best we could but he ended up eating very little chicken. Thankfully he had eaten a good lunch so it wasn't a huge deal.

The outdoor seating area was pretty empty when we grabbed our table. And there were a LOT of tables. Yet...when 2 families showed up....they took the tables right next to us. So weird. I wonder if they take the bathroom stall next to people instead of skipping one. 🤣

At 7:30 we were done and used our DAS for Mickey and Minnie's Railway. There was no pre-show which was a bummer. I absolutely love the cartoon, the song, and the hole opening up in the wall. The ride was still great though.

We picked up a DAS return for Toy Story Mania after this but we had a lot of time to kill so we decided to take the long way around and walk through Galaxy's Edge. As we got near Rise, we saw it was only a 20 minute wait. I believe it had been down and just reopened. Our son didn't want to ride but I told my husband to jump in line and go. He said he didn't want to ditch us but I told him I really didn't mind. Like our son, I'm not really a big fan of the drop part either so didn't really want to go anyway.

While we waited, we just sat down for a bit and did some people-watching. Saw a ton of people running to the Rise queue. Okay....so I pulled this picture from Google maps.

HSboxes.jpg

You see all these boxes....we were sitting on one of them. We picked one at the end of the row, nearest to Rise.

ALL of the other boxes were empty. But after several minutes, some random lady came over and sat on the same box as us! What the heck?! It was like at dinner time with everyone sitting by us....but this was even worse. I was beginning to wonder if my family is invisible or something. 🤣

Needless to say, as soon as she sat down....we got up.

We looked at some merchandise booths and then just walked and took pictures. I'm not really a Star Wars person, but I love anything that's lit up at night!

006.jpg

After my husband was done with Rise, it was almost exactly time for our Toy Story return. So we headed that direction. The LL queue took a little while but wasn't too bad. Towards the end, a couple groups of people decided to leave the line. They said "they are only running one side so it's taking forever." But we got on the ride probably 5 minutes or less after they left. Weird. My son actually managed to hit some of the targets on his own (after I helped him figure it out a bit.)

We decided to call it a night after this.

007.jpg

We saw some random fireworks as we were walking out of this area but I'm still not sure what show it was for or anything. Didn't even know they had fireworks here.

We were at the bus stop around 9:10. The bus stop at HS seems so far away from the entrance to me. It's probably not any worse than Epcot but it seems like it's farther.

We were back at the hotel around 9:40 and decided to get some hot chocolate and then relaxed for a bit before bed. All in all, a really nice day! Weather was tolerable. Not too hot during the day. A little chilly in the evening, but perfect sweatshirt weather for us!

Day 4 - Tuesday, January 28th

A little nervous when our son woke up at 2:30am for a bit. But thankfully he went back to sleep! We got up for the day a little after 8. Had breakfast, and as usual, took our time. We didn't get to the bus stop until 11:15. We got to Hollywood Studio at 11:50. This would be our last HS visit so we wandered through some shops first. I took pics of the things I wanted to come back and buy before leaving for the day.

I'm use this mug right now as I type this.

This is my new hat. I haven't worn it yet though.

And we got this shirt for our son.

By the time we were done wandering, our Alien Swirling Saucer DAS return time was up so we rode that. Our son loves it! It's obviously the same thing is Mater, but I'm glad it's covered since I hate the sun. 🤣

Next up, we rode Star Tours with a 10 minute wait.

008.jpg

Then we decided to have lunch. Originally, we had made a reservation for lunch at 50's Prime Time on this day. But we had decided the previous day that we'd cancel. Instead, we did a mobile order from Rosie's for me and my son. And my husband did a mobile order from Fairfax Fair. The only problem was....no open tables. We split up and basically just wandered until one of us saw someone getting up. There was this other family wandering and doing the same. I heard the mom tell her kids to spread out and keep looking. Then, I saw the son who was maybe 12 years old or so, spot an empty table. Instead of actually going to the table to claim it....he was a good 5-10 feet away and started yelling to his family. But by then, another group had sat down at the table.

A minute or two later, I hear this loud woman saying "WHO?! WHO DID THAT?? WHO WAS IT?" She was really angry. Then, the son pointed at the table and the woman went up to the people sitting there and yelled at them for "stealing" the table from a little boy. It was a bit of a scene. The people were so confused since the table was empty when they sat down. They didn't steal anything. The kid was seriously so far away and had his back turned when they sat down! So as the lady walked by our table, I just said "lady, your kid lied to you. That table was empty." Not sure if she heard me or not since she was so ticked off. It was bizarre.

I actually noticed, as the week went on and as the weather got warmer...people got more and more cranky in the parks! If people are that grouchy in 75-80 degree weather in January...I can only imagine what it's like in the summer! Yikes.

At this point, it was about 2:30 and we were able to use our Mickey and Minnie's Railway DAS return. Sadly, still no pre-show! Unacceptable, IMO. This is such a big part of the whole attraction story.

009.jpg

We went through the shops to buy our items and then headed for the bus stop. On this day, we had to wait forever, it seemed. But our son was a trooper. (And I love the colors in the trees behind him here....)

010.jpg

We took a break at the hotel until about 5:45 and then headed for the boat dock to the Magic Kingdom. I just love this resort so much!

011.jpg

We got there just as a boat was leaving which is always a bummer. But we figured another one would show up within 20 minutes. How wrong we were! While waiting, we saw 2 boats arrive and leave for the contemporary/Fort wilderness. Eventually, a boat did show up for us....actually, TWO showed up back to back. Very odd. All in all, it took us about 1 hour to get from the hotel dock to the park entrance. Not cool.

Magic Kingdom was very crowded this night. I also felt like the walkways were so dark. I'm not sure if it's always like that or what. But I was not a fan. Made it difficult to navigate around honestly. We were going to go on Small World because it said 20 minute wait on the app but when we got back there it was actually 40 which is way too long for our son. So instead, we went to Columbia Harbor House for dinner. He was pretty upset to not go on any rides. But by the time we finished, our DAS for the Jungle Cruise was ready. He wasn't super into it this time, though. When we were done, we were able to get on the Haunted Mansion with a DAS return. By them, our son was pretty much ready to go but we decided to hop on the People Mover (5 minute wait) first.

It was about 9:15 as we were leaving the park.

(Will continue in next post since I reached my photo limit for this one.)

Day 4, continued.

When we got back, my husband wanted hot chocolate. I didn't and my legs were starting to hurt. So while he went to Roaring Fork, my son and I hung out in the lobby.

017.jpg

Once back in the room, we took a picture of the pins we'd purchased so far...that way we wouldn't accidentally get any duplicates...

018.jpg

On this night, our son was a bit sad. Not sure why. This happens at some point on every vacation and it's kind of a bummer since we don't know what's wrong and can't help him work it out. We didn't end up going to bed until around midnight which ended up effecting our plans for the following day.
