Hi All,
We have planned our First Disney trip (week of 2/8/14) and are under 60 days away! The excitement is building.
My partner and I have been together for 12 years and just travelled to MD to get legally married in November. We have a beautiful 4 year old daughter!
Our travel agent has been great in helping us arrange our rooms, dining reservations, magic bands, and we are beginning to look at fast passes.
Here's my question....
Are we going to be comfortable as a lesbian family at Disney? You know sometimes I worry about these things (in our home state of NC we come across folks who love us and folks who frankly hate us)! We have ordered family shirts to wear our first day there - they are yellow and they each have the Minnie mouse logo with our names "Momma, Mommy, Emery".
I just wanted to know if I should expect this to become an issue or if we should be fine?
Any advise for first time at Disney for a LGBT family would be great and may calm my nerves a bit.
Thanks in advance!

You should not have any problems at WDW. We've never had a problem, 2 dads and a son, and we go yearly.
However, like Murphy's Law dictates, there is going to be one or two that are going to be unaccepting. Don't let it bother you, it is thier problem. If it gets uncomfortable, tell a cast member.
As I have said, we go yearly and not once can I think of anyone having a problem verbally towards us. Have fun and enjoy yoursefl.

You will be fine and have so much fun. Our kids are 13 (DD) and 10 (DS) we will be there the week before you (our first trip in almost 3 years). This is mine and my DP's 15th trip together (5 before kids) Each kid was 18 mos old on their first trips.

Have a blast! Love the shirts. Do it now. The 13yo almost died when we said we want to get matching solid polos for pictures much less having matching sayings. Of cource now we'll have to do it!

Enjoy your trip with your family! WDW is for families and that's exactly what you are :-) I would not forecast any problems. Enjoy!!

Definitely plan to wear layers! I'm not sure how different the Feb weather is from December, but we just got back and had some nights in the upper 40s waiting for fireworks, and some daytime highs in the 80s!

47 days until we go! I'm getting so excited. anyone have any tips for us?
What kind of tips? How to travel with a 4 years, best places to go with 4 year old. Are you staying on or off site? Using WDW transportation or will you have your own/or a rental vehicle?

39 days for us!!!

We will be staying at Pop Century. Driving down ourselves but planning onbus transportation to get around. We have adr's for CRT, Tusker house, BOG, Akershus. Planning on doing mk, ak, mk, and epcot.

Any tips or info you think would be helpful.

I have NO CLUE what to expect or plan for! It's overwhelming and exciting all at the same time.

I'm not gay but have never seen any problems with gay couples at Disney. People are pretty laid back and accepting what I have seen. I always go to the park openings and hit all the popular rides before the crowd hits. Magic kingdom has a nice opening ceremony I love it. I always rent a car because you can get around faster to all the parks except magic kingdom bus is faster to that park. The rest of the parks you can park close enough to just walk in. At the end of the day it is so nice to get in your car and drive to your hotel without waiting for a bus or being jammed in the bus. Driving down there is not bad plenty of direction signs and staying at pop century you can park close to your room and not have to walk back from the bus stop. You also get a parking pass so you don't have to pay for parking.

You might want to obtain the fast pass plus feature if you know what park your going to be in before your trip. That way you can choose the time of your rides and not have to stand in line. Sometimes it's difficult to get the old fast pass if the parks are crowded. They have info in regards to this on their web site. I like to fly by the seat of my pants and not plan anything that's just me.

Just have a magical time and have fun you and your family will have a great time. It's a magical place.

Alexander I have been to Disney 53 times if you have any questions I will try my best to answer you but I don't claim to be an expert I just love the place. I get a kick out of people on their first trip I can see the magic in their eyes like my first time.

I'm not gay so I don't know what people's reactions are to you. When we were there I didn't see anyone act rudely to gay couples around us :) not to say it doesn't happen though. I really wouldn't worry about it and have fun.

I have a sister that lives in another state - nc actually and she also has a partner . Since we live so far away , the only times we get togather are on vacations . We all went to disney last year and I never once noticed anything derogatory. We all had a wonderful time! Enjoy yourself & make some magical memories!!!!

We always drive, it's about 1,200 miles one way. I don't know if you have done long trips with your daughter but I'll start there. We always packed a toy bag for the kids (they pack their own now) and a lunch box with special treats in them. We would keep an extra bag of toys and food in the trunk and mix it up during the trip. Color Wonder markers were the best when the kids were that age. Little dolls, books etc. We have a DVD player now so now it's lots of movies. But they still bring book and their DS's. They have limited screen time so the trips are their times to go hog wild and getting to use the DS with no restriction is a big treat. When they were little we had the Leap Frog books. We also never drive straight through.

Some people swear by the buses. They haven't worked for us. So we drive to the parks Take breaks and take your time. Plan a down day or at least part of the day. I would highly recommend a stroller even if she doesn't use one at home. If you aren't bringing one and decide you need one you can always rent on in the parks.

A lot of people like to go dawn 'til they drop. We don't. We take breaks. Are you morning people or night people? This time of year the parks aren't open crazy late but if you're night people maybe plan a couple of nights at the Parks that have evening Extra Magic Hours. If you are morning people find out which days have morning extra magic hours and get to the gate before the park opens. Some of the kids' favorite days are the ones we spend at the hotel, playing at the pool hanging out at the arcade etc.

Go in with some kind of plan, figure out what your top 4 or 5 must do's are while you're there. Anything else is bonus Since you're staying on site do you already have your fast passes for while you're there? 10 years ago we spent a lot of time on Small World and the Honey Pots. Now we have fast passes for Space Mountain and Rock 'n Roller Coaster.

Hope this helps some.

My DW and I have been to WDW with our three children many times! We have never had any problems with anyone saying or doing anything negative! I truly think people are getting used to the idea!

We are counting down. 29 days to go! I never thought I'd actually get excited about this trip. But I feel the smiles starting to show.

I hope this is exactly what our family needs! How could it not be, right?

And as the trip gets closer and closer I wonder what I will remember and what I will forget and what we will need or won't need. What should I most visit or not visit. And I'm really trying not to overplan. But I want to know EVERYTHING!

Don't worry it will be here before you know it and you wont be able to see or do everything in your first trip so take it slowly and just relax and enjoy it! Your daughter will be so amazed and overwhelmed! Plan another trip there so you wont feel like you have to see it all! It will be exciting to see it through your daughter's eyes!!
