The only other diet I've done is atkins so I ate well without being hungry... just ate the right stuff.

But now i'm doing the healthy eating thing. I'm very picky and don't eat alot of veggies and fruits and healthy stuff. It's the first day and i'm already dying! I'm not really feeling hungry but my body is trying to convince me I am starving, my stomach is growling away to the point of hurting. I am on metabolife and was hoping it would help curb my appetite. So far today I have had special k and skim milk for breakfast, for lunch I had a rice cake with peanut butter on it and reduced fat cheese its and for a snack, I had a jello cup. I still need to go grocery shopping but I think i'm eating enough as it is... eat much more and the purpose is defeated isn't it? What else can I do? It's only day one and i'm frustrated.

that didn't sound like much? any idea how many calories you've had?? what is your caloric goal for the day??

i know it's tempting to just 'crash' and eat very minimally for rapid loss -- but that is not the healthiest way for your body and metabolism will crash as well. i know it's hard to look at the whole picture and not be overwhelmed -- but it's really important to set yourself up in a way you will succeed! the way you were describing feeling in your post doesn't sound like a state you care to exist in permanently!! me either!!

for me it was alot of trial and error to find new foods i liked; reading recipes and others food journals for meal and snack ideas; and surfing on the web for low cal/low fat food options. it took me some time to redesign my eating -- don't give up!

You shouldn't be starving yourself on any diet. So if your stomach is growling, you should probably eat. The food you listed are not the best choices and have very little protein. Try to increase your protein a bit, and it will help you fill fuller longer.

Like OhMom said, how many calories are you eating?

After much discussion with dh, I have decided to go back to atkins. There were reasons I didn't want to go that route again but it's something I know will work and I eat much better on it. I'd go all day long and never feel hungry and really lost weight. I think a big reason I didn't want to do it again is because it is expensive to do... but I think it's worth it.

melissa -- i'm glad you were able to settle on a stragety -- i think that will help you immensely to get through your day!

but i do have concern with what i seem to read into your last post as an uncertainity of Atkins? i'm not trying to share my opinion here on eating plans, but i do think that whichever you one pick you need to be wholeheartedly into it and believe in it -- in order to get through those tough days and plateaus.

Melissa - You may not be really "into" doing Atkins, so you may want to take some of what you learned when you did it and bring that into a healthier way of eating. That is, try to up your protein. The menu you described in your original post doesn't have enough protein in it to nourish your body or to satisfy it for a while after a meal, either. Maybe if you ate protein with every meal, you'd be more likely to stick to a more balanced and satisfying plan.

Good luck!

Welcome to WISH!

I need to preface this with I WISH I could follow my own advice.

Being picky will require planning. Whatever you choose, try to aim for the continuation once you have reached your goal weight. To focus on the "D" word may set you up for short-term success. What will you do after? I've read that the most difficult part is continuing on what ever the path you have chosen. Eating healthy and making those healthy choices takes effort for many. It can be done...never give up!

Atkins is more than a protein only lifestyle. Reread the book and see that as you transition, it is necessary to plan in the healthy choices. Many of us need to become our own nutritionists. There is much help here and I WISH that you find what works for you!

Let us know how you are doing. Join in on any of the threads here or start another of your own.

Keep on keepin' on.
