I just cut my first bouquet of dahlias. Almost all of my plants have buds and it's just another week or two away from being able to cut a bunch and still have some blooming on the plant.

Incredible colors.....:D

I counted them when I planted but I can't remember how many. I think around 40. I'll take a picture of the bed when they are all in bloom. I love dahlias too. These are special to me because they were my dear MIL's. I've added a few to hers but for the most part they are the tubers she had grown for years.

40!!!! Wow, that must be a fabulous looking bed!

How nice that they hold such special meaning for you. :)

Very Beautiful.

I am anxiously awaiting for the two dahlias I got from Sorcermickey during the DisBudFlower Exchange to bloom. They have the buds there and they are ready but they are taking their sweet time about opening.

How long do they stay in bloom? With my luck, they won't open until I am away in Omaha!

Tuli: they will bloom until a hard frost gets them. The key to dahlias is to cut them often. The more you cut, the more flowers they produce. Also, to make the flower last long in a vase either plunge the stem in boiling water or burn the bottom of the stem with a match. Also, like most everything, cutting in the morning is best. I rarely remember do either of the things I just advised :p and my bouquets last at least 2 weeks.

Beautiful Mary. My lack of sun prevents me from growing these beautiful flowers. Maybe someday if the tree guy ever shows up. Till then I guess I'll have to enjoy my buds beautiful Dahlia's.
