Does IOA or the studios have a nightly fireworks display like in Disney? We will be there on Dec. 31, Jan. 1.

I know there is some kind of fireworks on new year's eve but I am not sure what time. I don't think we will stay till midnight as we have to be at the park early the next day. Just curious we may miss MK's fireworks (we have seen it before and love it, to eat at BOG, we have a late reservation)

These parks close much earlier than the WDW parks. There is a nightly show at US over the water. We were there over Thanksgiving and the parks closed at 7 or 8pm. The problem with that is everyone moves over to CityWalk and if you want to eat late, finding a table without a long wait is hard. Just plan ahead.

There is a nighttime show (Cinematic Spectacular) that includes fireworks a the studios (and lasers and fountains, and waterfall screens), it's been running at 9PM nightly during this week, you can get in the "battery park" or "Central Park" (Grassy shaded area) sections of the studios along the lagoon to watch. NYE they may do two shows.

If you are there new years eve the park is open until 12:30AM. There will be a countdown event party around the lagoon with the big waterfall screens and much more fireworks at midnight (most likely). The big in park NYE events are in the studios and family friendly. At Citywalk, the party is extra ($99 tickets and usually is packed) but is 21+ only. They will have the club sections blocked off for that ticketed event.

NYE Islands closes at 11PM and the studios at 12:30AM.

Although you probably won't stay for midnight, it'll be gridlock getting out after it.

Last year, they didn't do Cinematic Spectacular at midnight. They used the fountains and water screens and played music with the occasional fireworks instead.

The thing to realize about Universal is that unlike Disney, Universal sits SMACK in the middle of a residential area. There are noise ordinances that they need to stick to.They do have a nighttime show over at the Studios on the waterfront

Good to know!

I think we decided to buy a park hopper for 1 day and just go to MK on that night after HS's 1st fantasmic to see Wishes. MK is open till 1am that night. I am not sure we can hang late on new year's eve as we are trying to wake up early to see Harry Potter! That's the main reason for this trip to Orlando so we want to get there early.

I have three boys all too young for a City Walk New Year's. However, we just had a family member get married in New Orleans in St Louis Cathedral so they were exposed to the New Orleans French quarter at night already. Universal is bound to be tamer. My 15 year old told me the French Quarter is seedy! :lmao:
