My boys will be 5 and almost 3 when we are at the world in October. They've never seen fireworks but I'm worried that they will be too intense for them in the parks. Any suggestions?

Originally, we were staying at GF but got a little skittish with the latest construction update. I assumed we could watch them from the resort and be removed from the loud sounds. We are now staying at AOA.

What about the Boardwalk area? We have ADRs at the Captain's Grille one evening. I really don't care which fireworks show we see. I was even thinking maybe taking a car ride?

Thanks!

If you have the space, you could pack ear muffs or the ear protection headsets that construction workers wear. that would allow them to see the show and muffle the sounds. That is what we did with my daughter when she was younger and it worked great.

There are not a lot of fireworks during Illuminations so I don't know how interested your kids would be.

Wishes at the MK is the only real fireworks show and you can control the loudness by just moving back from the castle.

exactly!! The music is really the star of Wishes, not the boom of the fireworks. My step son was marginally afraid of loud fireworks when he was five and he had no problem with Wishes. I think that kids take their cues from the parents. If they see you smiling and enjoying the show, they will too. It's a wonderful, magical show!!! My all time FAVORITE thing at Disney World!!!pixiedust:

Also wanted add my comment was mostly about seeing Illuminations from outside Epcot. Its not at all the same show since most of the action is at water level.

So while you can see a very few up high I don't think it will hold their interest.

Also as posted above Disney, doesn't do loud with the big in your face reports (big bangs), but they do now have kids sized industrial type ear muffs.

We took my daughter when she was 5, with the knowledge that she hated fireworks because of previous 4th of July experiences. My sister, an audiologist, made her a custom set of earplugs thinking that it was the loud sound that bothered her...didn't help...she still cried throughout Wishes. Later in the week, we ate at Ohana and she loved them as she watched from the window. Also watched Wishes from Poly beach and she was fine.

When we saw Illuminations, we were eating at Rose and Crown and she did okay...still teary, but no freaking out.

As she has grown (now eight and a half yrs. old) we have discovered that it wasn't really the noise that bothered her as much as the sensation of the vibration when we were close up.

We have this issue. My oldest DS has always been afraid of fireworks (loudness). At WDW, we watch them from a distance (Poly beach, Narcoossee's, Cali Grill) or we skip it altogether. One time we were having dessert at Plaza & the boys stayed in the restaurant eating while I stepped out & watched Wishes. At Epcot, we watched the fireworks from outside of the park while waiting for the bus to arrive.
Now DS(7) uses construction headsets to block out the noise. He wears them at pro sporting events too.
If you really want to watch the fireworks, then plan a spot further away.
