Fireworks and winds?

In the park today and it’s been super windy all day. How realistic do you think the fireworks chances are for tonight?

Considering they cancel for winds as it is and these are strong enough to be felt my optimism isn’t high but then again we already brought blankets and everything for tonight. Do they ever announce it early?

As far as I know, they very rarely announce early. It depends on the winds at higher elevation at the exact time the fireworks show is starting. If they think it will get better in 5 - 15 minutes, they will delay. We've had them cancelled a ton of times, but never knew ahead officially.

Yes they wait right up until the time they are supposed to start. They may even do a scaled down version of the fireworks if the winds have died down but still not enough to do all of them.

It often dies down after sunset and they will make the call right at show time. The release a balloon from the top of Main Street to see what actual winds aloft are doing in real time.

The do make the call sometimes earlier but it has to be almost 100% forecast to be super gusty that night.

More important than wind speed is wind direction. Anything over 5kt in the wrong direction can cancel the show.

It’s really all about the balloon...
I didn’t know the direction it moves is also important...
I am always crossing my fingers and mumble orders to the balloon as soon as I see it...

They cancelled last night. They issued warning at 9:15 and 9:25. The cancellation announcement came at about 9:33, immediately followed by an announcement that they would do the castle lighting event again.

I‘m an hour south, but I think it’s windier today than yesterday. I’d be inclined to not spend much time staking out a spot unless it was REALLY important to you.

It was crazy windy and cold- we opted to hit rides instead. Pretty sure they were canceled tonight so glad I didn’t stake out the spot. Fingers crossed for tomorrow night!

I had no idea about the balloon!

If you stand outside of one of the stores where they sell the jewelery, you can sometimes see them release the balloon.

Third night in a row canceled! Sending some prayers up to the wind gods to calm it down so we can have a hope of seeing them tomorrow on our last night, 😿

The high wind advisory ended tonight at 10 PM, so it's supposed to be much calmer tomorrow - fingers crossed for fireworks then!

First Fantasmic was cancelled also. Sounded like the second was going to happen but we were on our way out. NOS was very empty at that point. Probably could have had some sweet last minute spots.

Yeah, last minute spots were in abundunce Tuesday night. We just happened to be walking by about 10 and thought it must be cancelled because it was so dead. Then we heard the announcement that it would be starting soon, so stuck around and watched it.
