Firewalls as the Standard of Trade Value (Question)

Hi all.

I'm one of those people who doesn't trade a whole lot, but is always reading trade threads to get a sense of how rare/valuable some of the game items are.

When did Firewalls become the standard of trade values?

I see their use (30 firewalls = Blue Stitch, for example, and 5 firewalls for Minnie hat) all the time now, although it wasn't always that way.

So, using the recent example, can we come to some general notion of firewall trade value for other rare items?

Let me see if I can figure out the math here:

Please correct where you see fit. And please add other rare with the number of firewalls they would be valued at. We can bicker over the "real" valuation, of course, but I'm interested in that, too.

Rare: Firewall Valuation

Green Flips: 120 firewalls
Blue Stitch: 30 firewalls
Sparrow (complete): 10 firewalls
HM Clock: 5 firewalls
Minnie Hat: 5 firewalls
Green Explorer: 5 firewalls

So what about...

Full Mansion Pin Set: ?
White Snowman: ?
Gold Snowman: ?
ATIS Mighty Eye: ?
True Beta items: ?
Retired Magic: ?

What other rare am I missing that I could add to my list?

Mansion pin set is probably around 3-4 walls instead of 5-6

Each pin is worth 1 firewall each, some value the Master Gracy pin more, though. Even though they were re-released in HOST_ trades, they still hold their value. :)

I find the pins to regularly trade for 15K while a fire wall is 20K.

Is a firewall the same thing as the flaming window -- as seen in the POTC ride-a-thons this month?

And who's going to spend his entire fortune while in the parks in a couple weeks?

And although these are considered "standard" values, it does not necessarily mean that you will find a trade for that value. What something is worth and what people will trade for it are 2 different discussions.

Just don't be too mad when you walk away with 20 pins, 20 codes, and 1 firewall. It could make you crazy! (and broke)

Oh roller, noticed another flaw. I doubt a orange organ would be worth more than a red rocker. The red rocker was a tester item and was worth 5* inferno when inferno was rare.

Wow, thanks for the contributions, Roller!

And I'm still in awe of the green flips thing. Crazy.

Oh roller, noticed another flaw. I doubt a orange organ would be worth more than a red rocker. The red rocker was a tester item and was worth 5* inferno when inferno was rare.

But when the 4 were in the room makeover, they lost MAJOR demand since everyone thought they wouldn't be rare anymore. And there are less orange organs in the game than red rockers. Which explains why it's the rarest piece of beta.

Wow, thanks for the contributions, Roller!

And I'm still in awe of the green flips thing. Crazy.

No problem! I'm glad I could help :)

Yea, it's crazy how much they're worth, but everyone wants them.

Yeah... that fear has crossed my mind several times... :scared:

The problem with this entire discussion is that nothing is static on vmk - values are not set in stone, and tend to change for sometimes seemingly no reason.

For instance, I don't think in terms of "firewall value" much anymore because the value of Firewalls had gone down over the last few months. Just a thought...

I wouldn't trade 10k for a firewall as I can get them rather easily if I really want them, which I dont. I do not use them as a standard in trading at all. I never trade for them and rarely trade them. Use credits as a trade standard, works much better. and seriously, I do not know a single person that would trade 240,000 credits for green flips, except maybe Aengus, cause we know he has about four trillion credits or so. ;)

As for the above concerning red rocker and Orange Organ - Red Rocker, while it is known that 4 were given to one person, still is the single rarest furniture item in VMK with a possible 20 total given out. I know of only about 14 though. While the Orange Organ, I know of at least 30, and have suspicions of another 20. Green Flips - I know, personally, 25 people with green flips. Green Baggy pants however, I know of only 5. The Eye pin is the rarest of the pins, with a known possible 100-125 of them out.

heh, I am bearly holding at 50k which is a 5 star of the next magic to come out LOL

OK now the bad news. Green flips people are asking for 20 stitch hats not 10. Green flips were trading 5 - 6 infernos before the devaluation. It would take 3 - 4 stitch hats to get an inferno then. So now you can see where they are getting their estimation it is worth 20 stitches.

Also on credits, a sparrow suit trades for 125,000 - 150,000. So there is no way anyone is going to score even a stitch hat for less than 300k let alone flips.

Of course how many people still even have enough for a sparrow costume anymore after what VMK has done to us starting the first magic month :rotfl:

So credits are not a way to look at items anymore I feel. Because credits are so low it has devaluated everything you try to sell.

I know a person or two who are asking for 20 Stitch Hats for their mighty Green Flips, but the highest offers have been around 10 (and those from only one or two people). Since this conversation is coming up on all the boards, I'll just cut and paste what I said elsewhere:

What people forget is that Inferno has been released. All trade values are totally different now than they were before Inferno was released. Sparrow was cheaper, Blue Stitch was cheaper, etc...

Also, nothing in VMK is set in stone. Virtual values change regularly. I will see how many Stitch Hats get offered, and that will tell me how much people are willing to trade for the Green Flips - which is how we determine value in the first place. ;)

Like I said, I have heard of one or two people that are willing to offer as many as 10 Stitch Hats, but one or two people don't determine the value system for all of VMK. For me, and others on yet another board, a legitimate asking price for Green Flips might be anywhere between 4 and 10 Stitch Hats (and that's certainly a wide enough range to leave a lot of variance).

As for the credits conversation, it's my opinion that credits were devalued before, so now that we're all broke the value of credits are higher. It's not terribly easy to earn a lot of credits, so it was always a mystery to me why items were so credit-expensive. I feel that their current value is more in line with what they should be. And one last thought - if changing the value of credits affects everything else, then the argument of what VMK's base trading currency is settled - it's credits.

I agree on the credits for sure. VMK has managed to take them all away with us in the past couple of months LOL. Therefore credits being in such demand all items credit value has lowered.

I hear you with the stitch hats thing but here is my take on it. Inferno was de-valued, stitch didnt change. Honestly I dont see flips really trading anymore at all, but would you trade yours for 10? I wouldn't trade mine at all, but I know I wouldn't even allow my ears to perk up unless it was 20. I have noticed someone trying lately pretty hard to trade his on vmk and on the boards, and your right he is not getting what he is asking for, but he isn't giving in either. Guess time will tell, but I expect the old green staff items, are going to stay with whom has them at this point.
