Somehow I forgot about this thread and found it when looking for something else. (I actually know how i forgot...school and work started again and my life went into hyperdrive...LOL)
Anyway, a LITTLE late but wanted to say what great pics you all posted. maybe we can do this again and make it a summer assignment.
ETA: That pic I had last summer. Not firetrucks, but....well, I don't like any of my firetruck pics. LOL!
(Oh wait....there's a firetruck in that corner back there! )
I remember this when I saw it in the early '50s. I lived in the country and we had a volunteer fire dept. It was a subscription dept and they didn't have much money. If you didn't subscribe they watched your house burn down. I think it cost $8.00 a year.
They used to keep the trucks (2) in a barn until it became tax supported and they were able to build a firehouse. Someone would take the call, run down to the firehouse, blow the whistle and write down where the fire was on a blackboard. Everyone would go to the firehouse first and the first two to arrive would drive the trucks.
They would go down the road with a fireman sitting next to the driver cranking the siren. It was a Reo. They had to keep their trucks a long time.
Wish I did have some fire trucks - but unfortunately not. Closest I can get are the following...
Disney (Reedy Creek) fire station:
Coral Springs Police motorcycle:
Coast Guard rescue helicopter:
Magic Kingdom firehouse:
Funny thing is that I do love fire trucks - but either don't have my camera when I see a good shot, or the situation doesn't seem appropriate to shoot them!
