I'm thinking of trying this place for the first time this year and wondered if anyone here could give me a review?

Finnegan's is simply.............

FANTASTIC!

How's that for a review? ;)

Seriously...It's a great place with great food and atmosphere. I love the Shepherd's Pie and Bangers and Mash especially but everything is excellent. You will NOT be disappointed! :thumbsup2

Couldn't agree more - great place. I look forward to it as much as any ride or attraction.

We tried Finnegan's for the first time a few years ago. We loved it so much, that it's been added to the must do list for every trip, much like Mythos at IOA. If you go, keep your eyes open for fellow Dis'ers. I saw a few on our last trip.

The two items that MetroWest mentioned are good, and the Fish And Chips are good too!

And don't forget the beer sampler! :drinking1

Another thumbs up. Agreed on the bangers and mash, the scotch eggs appetizer is quite good as well. Some of the best, friendliest bartenders in Orlando should you choose to sit at the bar.

How does it compare to Raglan Road?

DD LOVES Raglan Road, and requests it everytime we go. If Finnegan's is anything like that, I think we will give it a try.

Second, third and fourth this assessment. Never once had anything other than a great meal there, and we've eaten there more times than I can count. I had some friends from Scotland that lived there years ago when we did as well, and that was the only Irish restaurant they would go to.

It's more "traditional" Irish/Scottish food than RR. I love both places, but I wouldn't necessarily call them comparable in terms of what they serve.

After doing one Stay and Scream there for HHN about three years ago. It is now a "tradition" with us every year. I have only Two words and One letter to say to you. . . . .

Fish N Chips!!!!!

So far one of the best I've ever had. Give it a shot.

This is the only place DH will eat at while visiting Universal. He loves it. We've never had a bad meal there but it can get loud sometimes with the music.

Another Finnegan's fan here. We tried it a few years ago and now it is a definite stop for dinner on every trip to Universal. We are looking forward to returning in Aug. to Universal and we will definitely be having dinner at Finnegan's. Our group has tried several different items on the menu and we have not been disappointed in any thing we have tried.

We do HHN every non-peak night and Finnegan's is our Stay and Scream hangout. I love their food, and the soda bread and apple butter they serve with everything is to die for. I like the Bangers & Mash, the sandwiches...hmmmm, pretty much everything. Interestingly enough, I was looking at Orlando restaurant health dept. reports last year after a local place got shut down for roaches and Finnegans had a particularly high score (Latin Quarter did too) so you can eat there with confidence in the cleanliness. We're always had great service too. Raglan Road is okay, but they've made some menu changes I don't like and the service has been spotty for us.

Only thing I don't like at Finnegans is the music; they have a live musician during pre-HHN nights and he is good but LOUD, which gets old fast when you're there a lot.

Menus are similar, tho Raglan tries much more to "gourmet" it up. In other words, at Finnigans your Shepherd's Pie comes in the white dish it was baked in--at Raglan, it's a perfect circle in the middle of the plate, over a strategically drizzled sauce. ;) The prices reflect that, as well, although honestly I love both restaurants.

We love Finnegans as well, we would usually try and go there to coincide with the Blues Brothers show outside.
Never tried the Shepherds Pie, as it was not made with lamb

Second, third, etc. all the love for Finnegans, and want to comment on the "keep an eye out for DISers." We ate there for Stay N Scream last time we were at HHN, and met four or five different DISers. DS (who was 13 at the time) is an HHN nut and got to listen to stories told by some DISers who have gone to almost every HHN ever. That was a really cool experience.

Yum, beer. :)

Interesting that so many DISers go there. I thought that they'd all be at Mythos.

I actually used to rarely go to IOA in the past. Mostly always USF so mostly always Finnegans unless we opted for CityWalk. I suspect that's going to change now that WWoHP has won me over to the Even Darker Darkside.
