Finished the Minnie 5k and now attempting the Princess 1/2 - Am I nuts!?!

Hi Stacy -

Pretty cool how the whole sneaker thing worked out for you! I hope you can find something good at the specialized store...sounds like they'll know what they are talking about. Make sure you try all different kinds on, just to make sure :)

Congrats on the healthy choices with eating too!! I feel like the better eating and working out all go hand in hand and it sounds like you are really doing well there!

I vote for the outdoor run :thumbsup2 To me, although running on a TM is great for pacing, it's an unnatural thing...you should have natural fluctuations in your stride/pace that you can't duplicate on a TM.

Love the idea about Minnie running outfits!! That's the most fun thing about races...figuring out what to wear!!

Hope everything else is going well for you...sounds like things are shaping up for a fun and successful Minnie weekend!!

Have a good day :)

Stacy,
To tell the truth, I had the same issue with C25K. They kind of lost me around week 7, and I just kind of did my own thing for a while. I don't think I completely eliminated the walk break until the day of my very first 5K, if you can believe that!

Nothing against Easy Spirits as a walking/everyday shoe - I think they can be very good for that - but for a running shoe, you've got the right idea going to a specialty store, getting a specialty shoe. It makes all the difference. I wouldn't even have finished 2.5 miles in the wrong shoes - you are made of stern stuff. I hope your shins are feeling OK today. Not every run is going to be stellar or your best effort, even - you did, so don't beat yourself up for doing 2.5 miles - you did 2.5 miles! Last year, would that have happened at all?

A friendly reminder: Remember to dress for the running store - I always seem to end up going in jeans and a regular bra. Not the best for trying out the shoes.

As for liking the TM for tracking your time and distance....sounds like the beginnings of Garmin Forerunner longing. I've been there.

Have fun shopping and here's hoping tonight's run is more pleasant than your last run. :thumbsup2

Stacy, you are really cranking on those times, that is awesome! That worked out about perfect with the running shoes. That is great you still love your job, I think those hours and some time at the beach with your dd sound like the PERFECT summer! I am so glad things worked out on that front for you. Hope you can get the sneakers thing resolved, as many miles as you put on those shoes, they need to be just the right feel and fit!

Well, i will admit it. i did nothing tonight. LOL Just didn't have it in me.. i haven't slept good the last two nights, so i think that is catching up with me..
However, i will do 3 miles tomorrow.

I did go to Walmart, and bought some new socks for running, as well as a Danskin running skirt -- before i invest in those more expensive running skirts, i wanted to try one out, and they have them for like 10.94 at WM!!!! I got a pretty fushia color. It's shorter than what i am comfortable wearing, but i figure there's only one way to get use to it. :)

So, after my lil' retail therapy, i am home now, and want to scrap a couple digi pages tonight, and go to bed by 9.

Retail therapy helps doesn't it? ;)

I hope you have a great 3 mile run today! You CAN do it, Stacy!!!!:cheer2:

Have a great Wednesday!

Hi Stacy,

I hope you are able to find some comfy running shoes...Corinna's advice is correct in that the specialty stores are the way to go! :thumbsup2

As for modifying your training plan....that's the sure sign that you are a runner girl! :goodvibes You need to work with a plan that makes sense to you and works within your schedule, needs and current comfort zone. I think it looks like a solid plan, and you will have NO PROBLEM finishing the Minnie race beating the sweepers! GREAT JOB!!!

How did your run go today? Here's hoping it's a great one!

Stacy, I'm glad the sneaker situation worked out and that you're planning on going to a specialty store. Mark my words: You're going to feel so pampered there, and be given such good treatment & information, that you'll never ever go back to another store. I'm also sure you'll be eyeing the running skirts now more than ever. ;)

I also agree that your modification of C25K sounds like it's what is working for you. :thumbsup2 And you're going to be so ready for the Minnie--that must be a great feeling!

Hi everyone! Well, i did my 3.0 miles tonight -- in a NEW record time for me! I did it in 39.22!!  I am thrilled!! (And it was with my old sneaks! LOL) Must have been the new running skirt and new sports bra... ya, that's it.. :lmao: I must admit, i looked cute. :cutie: Too bad it was only for my treadmill.. LOL But, i am happy with the skirt -- it's a lil shorter than i am normally comfortable with, but hey, how often am i gonna see all you people anyway.. LOL And hopefully by the NEXT race, i will be in a smaller size skirt anyway.. :rotfl2: It's pink -- and it makes me happy.. i hope i can get some pink in my new running sneaks on friday -- but i know.. i can't buy sneakers based on color - right? :rolleyes1
I think when i get paid on friday, i may go back to walmart and buy a couple more skirts.. i like 'em!

Other than that, not much else going on..
Trying to figure out what i am going to pack for WDW.. i must admit though, i am getting worried about running in the heat and humidity, coming from new england winter/spring..
As dumb as it may seem -- do they have water stops on the 5k??

Probably won't be on much after 8pm tonight -- it's Weds, which means its my TV night. I gotta watch my Ghost Hunters! Never miss a week!! :cloud9:

Hi Stacy, that is an awesome time for three miles, I am seriously impressed! I think your pink skirt sounds cute, I am betting you look great in that short style! Hey you have earned the right to wear that, enjoy and be proud! Enjoy your tv!

Stacy,
I have had to buy new socks too I seem to have worn through all of mine.Congrats on your new time that is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

When will you be in WDW? We will be in FL 4/20-4/26,taking a day or 2 to go to WDW.

I agree with Scott TM running and outside are 2 different animals. For me the elements are a constant obstacle I guess you could say,but it switches it up alot which you don't have on a TM.

Yes the bra and skirt always add speed :)

Linda

Congrats on your personal best Stacy.

Buying new workout clothes always improves a workout. If you feel better, you will preform better.

Good luck at the running store. Even though I don't run, I buy my shoes at one. They actually care about you shoe fitting you correctly. You will be very happy with your purchase.

Have a good weekend,
Beth

Thanks guys! Today is my big new shoe shopping day!

I will let you all know how it goes!

Also,i got on the scale and am down 3 more lbs.!  So, that means my total lb.s lost for the last 4 weeks is now 9!!

Congratulations on the weight loss!! 9 pounds in 4 weeks is awesome! Way to go!!

Have fun shoe shopping tonight!

Congrats on the GREAT loss, Stacy!! :woohoo: You are doing really great!!

Your 3 mile time was awesome too! :thumbsup2 You're really rockin' this running thing. :goodvibes

Good luck with the new sneakers!! (and congrats on the running skirt. I haven't gotten one yet...still intimidated by them. :scared: )

Hi everyone! Thanks Scott and Kim for the congrats!! I am very happy about my 9lb loss - and want to keep dropping.. I want to be FAB by the time i go on my Disney cruise in Sept.!

Ok, so me and my sis went sneaker shopping tonight, we went to this store near my work that specializes in sneakers and orthotics..
Well, they looked at my feet, in socks and bare foot, and then had me walk and jog on a treadmill in the store, then told me i was (uh, forgot the word) but, that i basically tend to roll my foot inwards -- so they recommended this particular brand and sneaker, called Brooks Adreniline (sp?) and then had me run in those -- they feel great! They ran me $95.00 plus then i bought a new pair of non-cotton socks for another $7. But, i am very excited to try them out tomorrow! :yay:
It's amazing to me how they can look at your feet for a few minutes and tell you what to do. They also asked if i ever had knee issues, which i have, and i had surguries when i was 8 on both my knees and had to have pins in them, to fix my walking issues.. so for a good 6 mo. of my second grade year, i was in a wheelchair. But, apparently, they can tell all that, b/c i guess i tend to still walk a lil' pigeon toed. :confused3 And the women also said to keep an eye on my dd cuz they said that she walks just like i do! :sad2:
Well, that's about it for me.. glad it's the weekend! Gonna run tomorrow, and then we have a pasta dinner at my dh's parents church to go to.. :headache: I promise i will limit the pasta though!! ;)

Can't wait for the warm Florida sun, i am sooo sick of rainy weekends here!!!

Congrats on the weight loss and the 3 mile run, Stacy!:cool1: Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

I hope your new tennis shoes work well for you.:goodvibes

Have a great weekend!

Stacy, those shoes sound great. My mom's feet did that too and she bought some specialty shoes once and it was amazing how much better her feet felt. Congratulations on the 9 pound loss! That is a huge loss for someone as trim as you are, that is some serious hard work you have done. You really have earned that scale success! Have a great weeekned!:cool1:

Well, i strapped on my new sneaks and my new non-cotton socks, and got on the TM this am, ended up doing a new PR -
3.0 miles in 38:20 ! :goodvibes I wore the outfit that i believe i will be wearing at the Minnie 5k.

My new sneaks are great! :lovestruc What a difference!

Amy, thanks for the compliment, but believe me, i am NOT fit and trim.. LOL I am about 5'6" and now weigh 180 lb.
I am trying to get back to about 165 or so.. if i can do better than great, but i am trying to be realistic. I am trying to focus less on the scale but more on how i look and feel.

Stacy,
Great job!It is amazing how a new pair of sneakers can make such an impact on time isn't it?
Non cotton socks-are they better for your feet, less sweat?

Right now you may not feel trim but I bet you are fit contiuing to exercise like you are.

Keep it up,
Linda

Linda, yes, i was told by the people at the sneaker store, that non-cotton socks are best,b/c the cotton socks hold the moisture in your feet (or sneaks).. and these non-cotton socks are supposed to help your feet "breathe" better and are antifungal or whatever.. i don't know.. i was in a spending mood , so i got 'em. They were $7 for the pair, which i am sure i can find cheaper, but hey.. oh well!
