Finished stay at Contemporary -- the good, the bad, the upended expectations

Yeah I don't hate the look of the room itself but the price they are asking does not make it worth it.

It was my first resort stay way back when so there is some sentiment for me, but I'm not going to break the bank to stay there. I'm fine with getting my fix at one of the restaurants.
This is something my husband mentioned -- the overall quality of the room does not compare to other hotels at similar price points, so Disney really has to go all in on the theming to create a distinctive that will, to some, justify the price. Also, he really wanted to get his "fix," as you put it,one night at Steakhouse 71, but they were so far behind his scheduled reservation that he had to cancel in order to make it to a conference event.

Thank you! We're doing a stay at the Contemporary (also a bucket list hotel for me!) in August, as part of a leadership course I'm taking at the Disney Institute. This is super helpful!
Hi just saw your comment and hope you don’t mind my jumping in to ask. I know the Disney Institute used to offer courses and always wanted to do one. From you comment I’m guess they have started again? Is this like thru your company or can private individuals do as well. Thanks

He isn't complaining because he was here on business and didn't have to choose the room:), but he also felt the Garden Wing was treated poorly as regards access to convention space -- despite being physically right next to the convention hall, entry is barricaded and Garden Wing people have to take a circuitous route all the way into the main building and then back out again to reach convention facilities.
That's very odd that they made your husband walk around from the Garden Wing for his conference. We stayed in the garden wing for a conference in January and I don't think he had to walk around.

We had been going to Disney for more than 10 years and were even passholders at one point and we had never stayed at CR because it always seemed so busy, but because of a great conference rate, we stayed in January and I was a bit shocked at how much I enjoyed it. The rooms were spacious and I liked the Incredibles touches. We liked the bars, and loved having dinner at Cali Grill.

We like MK the least of the 4 parks, so we probably won't be staying there in the future simply because we don't spend a lot of time in MK, but anyone with younger kids should really consider it. It's compact, easy to navigate, screams MK, has good food/coffee/bar options, nice views, etc.
