We are in the process of planning a WDW trip for early March 2018. I am in the process of creating a budget for the trip and with the exchange rate right now we are looking at around 8,000 dollars for our 9 day trip. Any advice, deals or discounts that I may be missing as Canadian Citizen that could lower our budget.

There is a great deal on tickets on the WDW website. It's basically like getting them at par and they don't expire.

We are going for 10 nights in August. While it isn't a sure thing yet, this is usually the time for free dining. If we are able to snag that promo when/if its released, that will be 10 nights in a moderate resort with 4 Disney adults, our tickets, our food, park hoppers and waterparks for about 5100 Canadian.
There are a few things to look into. As the poster mentioned above, tickets are discounted for Canadians right now until May 20th. That will be a big savings for you and you could buy them now. However if you hoped for a package discount, you will have to get tickets as part of your package and then it wouldn't make sense to pre buy them.

You can check the Disney website (under "special offers) for package (room and tickets) or room only discounts. Those aren't guaranteed for every time of the year so it makes sense to do your research on cheapest times of year and historical discounts to get an idea of what is offered. Best place to do that is Mousesavers.com and there chart of historical discounts

If you are set on certain dates or a certain type of resort ,that limits what may be available, but does narrow down the types of savings you can look for. Once you've narrowed down one of those things it helps focus on where money can be saved.

You'd have to do the Disney math! A lot depends on what category resort you're booking whether free dining and paying full price for tickets and room is a better "deal" for you than a discount (25%) on tickets and room discount.
Mousesavers.com has a chart of historical discounts for when and what type of discounts were released in the past.
It's usually just me and one sometimes both daughters. We are all adults.
We stopped doing free dining a long time ago. For us it just wasn't a great deal staying at a mod, and def not at a deluxe. We still eat one CS and one TS meal a day, and eat well. But it's always less than the cost of DDP. Some deciding factors are we aren't pop drinkers and prefer water at meals. We also don't hsve dessert at lunch, and after dinner we prefer to share a dessert, or grab something later to share. Also rarely use all our snack credits, so before we leave we use them for snacks to take home. But you're are paying for all those things on DDP that you may not necessarily want. All depends on how you eat.
