Can anyone please help steer me in the right direction on this? Another parent and I have been charged with the task of trying to find affordable health insurance for the teachers at our school. Our next board meeting is in 2 weeks and we haven't made any headway. The owner of DH's company is getting me the info on their insurance agent but didn't sound hopeful about what it would cost us. I know that there are agents out there that can put small companies into "groups" but I'm not sure where to find one??? We're open to anything including high deductable health plans. Thank you for your ideas and advice.

If it matters, we are in Florida and there are only 4 teachers, and only 2 who would likely take advantage of the school's offer of insurance.

ETA - I actually considered the possibility that it might be cheaper to pay for individual plans for the teachers, but again I'm not sure how to go about doing this??

go to myflorida.com and look into the "buy in" state plan. It would probably be the best coverage for the $$.

Thank you!! I'm going to look at it right now.

I just called our school's professional association's "comprehensive health insurance" agent. They won't consider our school a group because we don't have 5 or more teachers:guilty: UGH!

THe term for this (at least with Blue Cross) is "Direct Pay" It's not cheaper. :rolleyes1 At least not for those of us with small businesses in CT.

I'd suggest starting with your local chamber of commerce. Sometimes you can buy into their group plan if your business is a member of the chamber. Also look into any local small business associations (in CT it's called CBIA CT Business nad Industry Association). I know that here in CT there was talk about letting small business owners in on the state municpal employees groups, but that didn't happen. Your state might allow something like that.

It looks like due to the new healthcare laws a lot of providers have stopped participating. Now it's only available in Flagler, Volusia and Miami-Dade counties unless I'm looking at the wrong link on the site:guilty: We're in Brevard.

This is the link that I was looking at:

Check with State Farm. DH and I have a high deductible insurance through them. I think we pay less than $300 a month for the 2 of us. It did just go up $60/month thanks to Obama. We have a $7200 deductible and pays 100% after that.
