Find Your Own "Directive" - the February Weight Loss / Life Style Change Challenge

Just did my weigh in-213.2 lbs so about 20% of my five lb goal.

Snack food-I'm not a big snacker unless there is some form of baked goods in the house. My favorite snack isn't a foot at all-it's root beer, cream soda or black cherry soda from Fitz's a brewery out of St. Louis.

Fitz brewery!!! Do you live in/near St Louis? I'm in Springfield, Il - we've been known to hit Fitz's before/after a Cardinals game.

Eastern Iowa-we've got a Schnucks up here that carries Fitz's. However we go to at least two Cardinal games every summer-our favorite pre or post game bite it the Washington avenue Pi.

Good Friday afternoon. We had an unexpected snow storm this morning. I woke up about 5 and there was maybe a lite dusting on the cars. When we looked out again at 6:30 the roads were covered and it was really coming down. I don't have any classes on Friday so that was fine with me. Dh was supposed to go to a meeting about his mother but that was 45 minutes away and he called his sister and told her he wasn't coming. She wasn't happy. She told him that there was no snow on the roads at her house but he just told her no he would not risk the drive. I was so happy to hear him say that. It stopped about 1 and we went out about 2 to do the sidewalks and sweep off the cars. Then we walked the dog.

I am trying not to snack too much. I can't in the morning since I usually have class. If I have something in the morning it is just a cup of tea. I have found that if I use a lite string cheese(50calories) and 3 triscuits I am at 110 calories. Maybe a small piece of fruit but that is all I have been trying this week.

I restarted this journey on Monday morning. I had a great weigh in this morning but I am really not using that as my goals for this month.

My goals for this month
1. Check in here each day and answer the QOTD (4/28)
2. Record all my food into Sparkpeople (5/28)
3. Try to get to 8000 steps at least 3 days a week. More if I can fit it in (1/13)

Have a happy and healthy day.

I find when I'm at work my snacking is ok - probably too busy. And this week I have been taking fruit which I've had about 10.30. Its when I am home that is the biggest problem. My biggest downfall is chocolate and if I have something like chips or pretzels or popcorn I have this awful habit that I need the sweet chocolate afterwards! I need to use some of the healthy snack solutions you all have mentioned.

Yesterday I started feeling like a have a sore throat and its still there this morning .... hope it doesn't get worse!

How do you manage snacking and snack foods?
What are your go-to snack foods? What are your weaknesses?

Oh, snacking. Snacks and I are not friends.
I think my favorite snacks are celery & PB, nuts, and fruits.
The snacks I eat most often are cookies and chocolate.
And now we all see why I have a snack problem.

Bonus: Would you want to try a hamburger flavored slurpee, like those featured in Wall-e?

Doesn't appeal to me. I'm not a big meat fan (I do eat meat, but I rarely crave it, and I generally will choose not-meat over meat), so hamburger flavored things don't interest me.

Not much time to chat today, but I'm checking in at 0%. Not sure why, since I had a decent week, but we'll see what happens next week.

I finally got my turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich!!!!! So yummy.

We got snow. Weird snow. It was like a snow apocalypse this morning and now by 4:30 the sun is out and blue skies. Here's to the roads not being too icy tomorrow.

As far as the QOTD I don't actually snack all that much which is a bad thing. I used to not eat most of the day and would then nearly binge for dinner and eat so many calories till I was uncomfortablely full and go to bed.

Now to make myself snack I'll have an apple, rice cakes(I actually like them), or just one serving of actual snack foods like goldfish crackers. I'll eat veggies too. I'm big on green beans and carrorts. A hand full of either and I'm good to go! Hummus or laughing cow cheese make great snacks as well.

Hi @donac -- can you please provide for me a percentage for the week, as we can only track one goal to make it easier? I am uncertain as to what to do at this moment. Thanks! :)

Oh, man... I am not a good snacker. I used to love granola bars thinking they were healthy then wised up on sugar content and had to find something else. I keep skinny pop at the office for when I am desperate for something remotely chip-adjacent. My other big down fall is cheese and crackers. And cheese sticks wrapped in salami. And cheese cubes with grapes.... and cheese in general. I can eat cheese all day on anything!

For healthy snacks though, I am working on incorporating more fruit and veggies. We keep cut strawberries in the fridge so I can just pop a few in my mouth. I can't stand celery, but we try to keep baby carrots on hand and slowly I am learning to like them without ranch... :P

And... No to the hamburger slurpee-- yuck! :crazy2:

Oh, man, I love snacks. And I love the worst possible snacks. Swedish Fish, Sour Patch Watermelons, White Chocolate Reese's, White Chocolate Covered Oreos (thank goodness they're only around at Christmas!), Sour Cream & Cheddar Ruffles.... Omnomnom. Plus white cheddar popcorn, and so many other things I can't even think of. Basically I'm always munching and it's always something awful for me... I also love green grapes and bananas and green apples, though. Looking at it, I love things that are quick and easy and yummy. And I wait too long to eat, so I end up getting holy @:!,'?&$ hungry and just eating whatever I can find or giving in to cravings and DH runs down to the gas station on the corner for sweets. Especially if I'm frustrated, which happened last night. Sigh. Hello, 215 pounds.

Also - no, I'll keep my hamburgers in solid form, thanks! Blech.

It seems we've all reached a consensus on today's topic: snacking is tough and apparently we all don't want to eat the food that the Axiom residents eat. :rotfl2:

Hope everyone is having a great Friday so far -- it's 80 degrees and clear skies near Disneyland right now. Looks like we'll be in shorts all next week. :(

For my first February weigh-in, I am already at 63% of my goal. I'm not sure how that happened but I will take it!

I'm not a big snacked most days. I try to keep some kind of cereal on hand because it's easy to grab a handful. Other than that, I love the mozzarella sticks at McDonald's. Incredibly bad for me so I don't get them often! Sometimes the craving wins though!
Have a great weekend!

Disney Chat: Disney California Adventure
Celebrating 15 years! - 2001 (left) - 2016 (right)
This thread will take a break on Saturday and Sundays to discuss something of relevance to Disney Parks. The spotlight for this weekend will be all things Disney California Adventure. This weekend marks the 15th anniversary of Disney California Adventure theme park - the second park at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim. Located across the promenade from Disneyland, this park was built on Disneyland's former parking lot. The park has changed a lot during its first 15 years, particularly in the last 3-4 years with a new facade entrance, the addition of Carsland, and having most of its rides/attractions re-themed to be more "Disney" than "California".

Now is the time: share your stories about Disney California Adventure!
Have you been? What is your favorite ride? What do you like about the new overlays?
Did you go while it was in its former, more "themed California" state? What did you like/dislike about it?
If you haven't been, what are you looking most forward to riding?

:-( I've never been out west! One day, though. One day.

Okay so true story of relevance for you --- when I went to Hollywood Studios the first time, it freaked me out how SIMILAR these parks are. Like for reals, the facades, attractions, and store set ups are nearly identical. It could be why I am not a fan of HS, because I feel like California Adventure fills my needs with attractions and ambiance, where as the other 3 parks at WDW aren't similar to Disneyland. (MK is close, but so so so different).

So I'll admit, I think my love for California Adventure rivals @JacknSally 's love for Hollywood Studios. The old version of the park wasn't terrible, it just wasn't refined. Obviously going to a Mission Tortilla Factory tour or having California shoved down your throat when you're IN California and have lived in the state for 18 years (for me) when it launched wasn't so great, but beyond the cheesy facade was a really fun park that had no lines and some fun attractions.

I found an old online photo album earlier today at work and I figured that I'd share one of my favorite pics. The letters out front were always fun to pose on, and I loved the C for... Courtney :) I think that picture is from 2003? I'm 20, slightly pudgy and unable to enjoy the best of what California Adventure has to offer: the alcohol!

For those of you who have yet to go to California Adventure -- you need to ride Radiator Springs Racers and watch World of Color. RSRs is such an amazing ride - they basically took EPCOT's Test Track and put it on another level. World of Color makes me cry every time I watch it - who knew that water and lights could do that to a person.

I have plenty more pictures I could share of the park in its old format. The gigantic orange that used to cover the now-Mickey's Symphony Swings and the former MaliBOOMer attraction that almost duplicated the effects of Tower of Terror, but in a carnival like setting. Let me know if you want to see them. They're not great, but hey.... they're 14 years old :)

World of color, oh my word. I have seen videos and I'm obsessed. I'm in love with all of DL as a whole, to be honest.

I hope they do the HS redo like the handled DCA. Take the time and money to do it RIGHT.

I remember reading about a giant sundial out front of DCA when it first opened? I would love to have seen that! It sounds so cool!

A vote here for old pictures!! I love Disney nostalgia no matter the park, but something about DL/DCA nostalgia really intrigued me, likely because I've never seen it firsthand.

Also - challenging my DHS love? Them's big words! Haha

I CANNOT wait for May to come and Tinkerbell half and finally getting out to Disneyland! I was worried I wouldn't love it like I do WDW because you're not constantly in the Disney bubble. All I want is to see World of Color and Paint the Night. I've actually avoided watching videos of them because I need the first time to be while I'm there. I'm super excited to be able to walk around with the same wonder and awe that I did the first time I went to WDW as an adult.

I'm just so excited for it, and to be able to weigh in. Soon SO SOON!!!

I can't get my browser to quote Courtney but here goes about my favourites for DCA.

Yes we have visited on our trip in September 2014 - We really liked lots about DCA. Foodwise for me was the Corndogs!!!!! Yummmmm
We really enjoyed World of Colour.
Our favourite rides there were 2 (well except for my daughter she didn't like this first one so much).... But my boys and I did that's us in the front row....

and Grizzly River Rapid Run here is my daughter and her twin brother we rode this many times ... it was super hot for our visit

River Rapids.jpg

Oh and I have put on about 15 Kg since our trip in 2014 - I was still bigger than I would have liked for the trip but I did get in lots of photos and you know what - when I look at them now I am kind of ok with them because - I look so happy in them that for me that mostly takes the focus off my size. I/we really needed this trip and it was so healing.
