THANK GOD !! Last night ds6 was in his room playing when he tipped over his tv and it landed on him. That was at 430pm. I just got home from Childrens Hospital in Boston at around 9pm. First we went to lahey in burlington they dont have a peds department anymore so they took an ex-ray and made him comfortable then said we would need to DRIVE him to Childrens. DH said the nurse and the doctor were out in front of the room and talking about an ambulance to transprt ds6 but that was gonna be a pain. Dh said they came in the room and told DH to put ds6 in the car and drive him to Childrens. WHATEVER. I was home with ds2. My neighbor comes over and watched ds2 and i go with dh and ds6 to childrens. They were shocked lahey sent us there with ds6 having a fractured leg, nevermind the weather and it was till snowing. We had to spend the night so DH went home to be with ds2. I spent the day with my son who is now is a spica cast practically full body for the next 3 weeks. The leg that is fractured had break almost near the hip so. The cast is the whole right leg half the left and it wraps around his waste. It was a long day and I am soooo happy to be home and thankful ds6 is ok as he had to be put to sleep to fix his leg and put the cast on.
anyone else have advice about caring for child who cant move and even go potty. I am concerned about school and how he will do that.
any advice is very welcomed.

Thanks..

No clue, but I'm glad he'll be ok.

Sounds like you had quite a time. Sounds like you might need to call the school about some home tutoring for a few weeks.

spicea cast - is that a certain kind of cast?

Don't worry about school!!! Lots of videos and stories will help. What about starting a chapter book and reading aloud to him? Something really exciting to keep his mind off of his troubles!

I know I should not worry but i am he has worked so hard this year and I dont want him to fall far behind. We have the magic tree house books thru book 12, and some new movies and tomorrow we are picking up some pops and stuff. It was hard keeping him busy today after he was brought back to the room, I need a better plan for the next 3 weeks

Hugs and best wishes for you and your little guy. I know he'll move a little more slowly for a while, but in a couple of years, you'll look back on this time and be proud of all you did to figure out how to work around all that plaster.

A trip to Wal-Mart for some large underwear and tear-away sweats in a larger size should make him more comfortable.

I'm guessing you probably already stay at home. I homeschool my daughter for second grade, and it's really not difficult. Contact his school and try to work out something with them that would allow you to teach him what he needs to know without causing significant absences on his record.

The biggest thing he'll probably need is plenty of rest and a decent diet to help his body heal. Good luck--and remember when you're at the end of your rope with him that we're always here...listening and providing cyberhugs!

Thanks so much. I am off to target tomorrow for the sweats and maybe some coloring books and other stuff.

well i am so glad that it wasn't worse than it actually was, and glad that he is home safely! hope he is as comfortable as possible the next few weeks!

Oh...ouch! I hope he feels better soon!

Now is the time to break out the dvds and board games (if he is able to play). Also, I like the suggestion of reading aloud to him.

My summer job when I was 19 (Many moons ago) was to take care of a little boy with the same break.
Large sweats is what he wore. He also took a stool softener like dulcolax so he would not get constipated.
Have you thought about books on tape? My kids love them. Most of the tree house books are on tape as well as Junie B, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory etc...
Many of the kids ones are available on amazon or recorded books .com

Ohh I just remembered something else
Dover publications www.doverpublications.com
Has loads of neat coloring books on any kind of subject.
Educational ones, Little ones -stained glass ones. Mazes, circle a word- tons of stuff like that in very specific topics.
My kids like their ancient egypt stuff and they have dogs, horses, sea life, civil war, colonial life. Just do a search- almost any special interest he might have -they will most likely have a coloring book or sticker book on it
:)
