I've been waiting to be able to get the vaccination. Since I am not in any of the high risk groups, I was beginning to think I would not be able to get it. I walked into the Walgreens near my home tonight and say a sign saying they had the vaccine. They said that most of the Walgreens in the area got shipments of the H1N1 vaccine today and that there are no longer restrictions on who can get it. They charged $18 for the shot. Yes!

That's good to hear. I've been reading that they should be lifting the restrictions soon and letting everyone get the shot. Everyone in my family got one on Sunday, except my DH so he will have to wait. My two boys got them for being in the high-risk age group. I asked if I could get one because I work with special need preschoolers (one with a heart defect). They said sure and gave me one too. But my poor DH didn't fall into any group so he couldn't get his. We went to one of the public vaccine clinics so it was free. It's impossible to get one anywhere else around here including doctor's offices and drugstores. Hopefully they'll be more widely available soon.

Dd10 and I got ours today at school for free! Ds12 will get his tomorrow, at the middle school. We got our regular flu shots at Walgreens a couple of months ago. Dd10 put on the biggest show you have ever seen with me at Walgreens, but the school nurse said she didn't fuss at all with her friends around at school!

I will say that the swine flu shot burned some, while the regular shot did not. I think that was due to the difference in nurses though!

I'm glad to hear that the vaccines are making there way to everyone who wants them now. To be honest it's looking like herd immunity is the best way to prevent disease in the general population. The more people out there that can fight it off, the less likely it will be for other people to come in contact with it and the more lives that will be saved! That's a good thing!!!!!!

I've been holding out trying to get it at my own Drs. (I am in a high risk group.) I'm ready to give in and and go to a clinic. They get it in, but never have any left by the afternoon when the kids get out of school. I guess now dh can go with me and the boys and we'll all get it.

Yeah Peg! I'm a Walgreens believer too! :thumbsup2

Our dr never rec'd supply of H1N1 shots. We just happened to be traveling to N.C. to our DD's in October, when we passed a Walgreens' billboard blinkie sign advertising H1N1 shots!! As I do day care and have a few health issues, I qualified. All they required was $18. and my MD drs name, address and phone #. Then DH passed his up for more high risk vets when his V.A dr called. However, his wonderful V.A. dr called back and insisted DH get his on second availabe round. Neither of us had any reaction at all. :goodvibes

Glad to hear they are lifting the restrictions and shots becoming more plentiful. Hope all that desire get theirs, specially children and those with health issues. :thumbsup2

Great to hear! I got mine about 3 weeks ago from my PCP. DH is high risk and his specialist never got any beyond the first small shipment. We were both immunized by our PCP.

I'm glad I got it, but I did have a reaction on the left side of my body. That went away though....whew!

I'm happy to hear that more and more people are finding the vaccine to be available. I called DS18s doctor's office today and they said that he is #178 on the list, but that they have plenty of vaccine now, and the only issue is that they have to contact and administer the vaccine to the first 100 people in front of him before they begin to schedule the next 100. It was good news to know that they have a vaccine earmarked for my DS, but that it may take a week or two before they'll call him in for it.

DS21 has his H1N1 vaccine on the same day as his seasonal flu shot, so he's all set. Now just DH and I have to wait for availability for us.

I'm with you. I hate needles. I was able to get the mist. I told them I don't like needles.

Needles don't bother me, but I really didn't have a choice. The mist is only given to people 49 and under. I had to wait for the shot.

I got mine on monday and did NOT even feel it! lol I said to the nurse when are you doing it? It was done! did not even hurt days later!!

In terms of pain or reactions, the shot itself didn't hurt. My arm was sore later in the day and the next day but only if I pressed on it. I did have a headache the day after that lasted all day and I felt tired. It wasn't anything that Tylenol couldn't handle and I still went to work. But I took a nice nap when I got home that afternoon. My DS14 got the shot and never complained about arm pain, a headache or anything else. My DS11 opted for the flu mist because he hates needles. He said he had a little headache the next day during math, but then again, he said he always has a headache during math!

They are opening it up to the general population in Ohio on the 14th.
I can't get it until the 31st. The county health department does it by appointment only and they are booked up until then. It is free through them.

If I can find it soon at a Walgreens/CVS etc, I will be happy to pay for it and give my appointment to someone who can't afford it.

Both boys already have theirs.

They lifted the restrictions in MD a few days ago. The kids and I got ours at Walgreens over three weeks ago. The kids got their second there yesterday. DH got his a few days after we did at a local pharmacy.

CVS is suppose to have the H1N1 too.

For those still looking outside their local health department or who have doctors who aren't getting the vaccine, I found this on the Walgreen's website.

I got the vaccine too-- except I got the nasal mist spray! As long as you don't have diabetes, asthma or any other underlying medical conditions, you're eligible for it. If you're afraid of needles, it's a great way to go.
