Last year our internet and land line phone from Frontier was running $56 a month. This month it is now up to $73 a month. Enough is enough.

So the DW and I decided now was the right time to ditch the land line. We have our iPhones and rarely use the land line anyway. Great news was we found out that our Frontier email accounts will remain active and won't cost us anything. Now we can slowly transfer our email contacts over to our iCloud emails at a more comfortably pace.

Switched to Medicom internet today for $10/month (2 yr no contract) plus $7/month for modem/WiFi rental. I plan to get my own WiFi Router/Modem in a few months. Any recommendation on which one to get would be appreciated.

Saving $56-$63 a month plus having higher speed internet is going to be great!

6 years until I retire and I can dump my cell phone and just have my landline.

But my cell phone is for emergencies only, nobody but DW, DD and DS and MIL has the number. I can not imagine putting up with people calling me everywhere I went.

Congrats :) we dumped our landline 9 years ago and we are happy we did! As for people calling you everywhere you don't actually have to answer your phone every time it rings and you can just turn it off

if you live in an area with a community emergency alert phone system make sure to update their records. w/ours they have all the landline listed and unlisted numbers but for a cell you have to provide it. also remember to update those you do business with whose phone systems use what has historicaly been your home phone number to identify incoming calls (utility company, pharmacy, credit cards...).

we have lots of neighbors who have dumped their landlines-we keep ours b/c when the weather is REALY nasty service can be spotty at best, and in the event of an emergency we want a way to call out.

This is why I've kept a landline, especially with kids at home. I did cut our landline to basic service, no long distance, no voicemail, etc.

Yup. I keep my phone on vibrate and if I don't feel like answering it, I don't.

Not an option since most folks have their number blocked here, so no way to know if it is an important call or not.

That's the beauty of cell phones, you actually get less calls. Telemarketers cannot "robocall" your cell phone. They must actually have someone physically call you. Also, if you are concerned about getting unwanted calls, you could set up a Google Voice account and give out that number to companies.

You can get an adapter that would carry your cell calls over the Internet.

2 - 2.5 yrs and HAPPPY as the day is long.

We went with ooma and pay i think 7.99 a month. we were able to keep our orig #, and though not bigger works a 9.89 outta 10..

1 unforseen upside.. you are not listed anywhere.. it is not a phone. I get WAY less calls than I even did not the DNC list.

It is AMAZING!

i get caller ID, and some how my voice mails go into my email, and I can check from home/cell/work even on vacation.

If a home phone went to 20$ a month.. they would still not have my business!

feel free to IM, I will answer anything I can. :)

Cancelled my landline and cable TV effective Nov. 1st. Have my digital antenna hooked up outside and now have 37 "free" channels and Netflix.

The combination of dropping both saved me almost $125.00 per month.:cool1:

Woohoo! When DH and I got married, we didn't get a landline or cable... just wasn't worth it for us. Plus we wanted to spend the $$ on Netflix, faster internet, etc.

You'll be happy you made the cut!

Havent had a land line in 7 plus years - and have not missed it.

I DO have a regular phone - if I NEED to dial 911 I can! So emergencies are covered.

Telemarketers robocall cell phones all the time. A computer doesn't care if it's a land line or a cell phone, it is just programmed to dial all active prefixes in an area code.

Haven't had a Landline for many many years. We went back to cable a few years ago simply because DW found it to cumbersome to use the online sources. In her words "I just want to watch TV!" We can afford it, so I said why not? Happy Wife, Happy Life! I did build my own DVR though, so I don't have to pay the Cable Co. for there Set Top Box. Just $5 for a CableCard.

It is a bit complicated in our area concerning 911. Our town has three fire districts. Our liane line routes to a call center tied to the city. They are able to see where the call is coming from and dispatch immediately.

Our cell service routes to a county dispatch. They have to quiz you where you are calling from a then route to the correct center.

if the weather is messing up our cell reception then it's pretty much guaranteed our internet is down. only one provider in our neck of the woods and while they do their best to keep it going it's still spotty come the winter months.

Gave up our land line two years ago when we were sure that DS, then 5, could use our cell phone well enough to make emergency calls. Also gave up cable at at the same time because it just kept going up!!!!! Never once missed land line and quickly adjusted to no cable. We do have netflix. We did have an issue with our alarm system monitoring, so be aware of that. We do have central places that our phones stay plugged and charged and we know that my car ( in our garage) will charge a phone without starting the car, in the case of a longer power outage. We also have a generator. We never get sales calls on our phones. We are on the no-call list but not sure that is why. I love that we all get our own calls only, and yes I do choose when and who to answer. If it is important, and I don't answer, they will leave a message!

We are two years landline-free, and it was the best decision we could have made. While we get the odd (and I mean ODD) telemarketer, its 1000x less often than when we had the landline. I only give out my cell to those who need it....and I rarely get a call that's not "important" (ie someone I know and want to talk to).
