Random question I know, also i know it will be different for different airlines, but what kind of films do they play on the flights? Is it recent ones, or ones I've never heard of? And do they come on at certain times just like tv, or can you pick and play them whenever you want?
You can probably tell, I haven't been on a long haul flight yet:rotfl2:

Most long haul flights have good enough entertainment, even on my first flight to Orlando when we had an old army converted plane! (I was not impressed, nervous flyer to start then I am finally persuaded to get on the plane and see two bright orange stretchers waist height attached to the floor a few rows back from us I freaked haha) any way back to the movie part, even on that plane there were a few TV's attached to the roof of the plane so everyone could see fairly reasonably well, and they played 4 films a variety like one children's film, one action, one older type film and one comedy, so unless ultra fussy I'm fairly sure most people would have had at least one film they didn't mind watching even is this situation!

On our flights with virgin back in 2010 most of the films were recently released ones and others were all popular titles, in fact there were far too many to choose from, and most flights I've been on also have a choice of other channels I've watched friends, only fools and horses, a vast variety of movies and lots more on the planes I've been on, I'd say there's probably enough for everyone unless you sit and watch you tv for the whole 9 hours then you might get a little stuck for choices.

Also when we last flew with virgin the movies come on at select times :-( but that's the only flights I've had that issue on!

It really does depend on who you are flying with. Scheduled airlines usually publish the movies for the month on their websites, chartered don't always do that. In general, you will get movies that are either out at the cinema currently or they are just done in the cinema. Sometimes you'll get films that are not even out at the cinema yet.

In flight entertainment is better of scheduled airlines (in general) but you won't struggle to find something to watch in my experience. We rarely travel charter now so I'm not too sure on the calibre of their entertainment and their in flight entertainment systems. I wouldn't worry too much though you will have relatively new films.

What's the difference between scheduled and charter? I have no idea what my flight is :confused3

This should have the information you need on it!

This definition may help explain.......

"A charter flight is generally an aircraft chartered by a holiday company, and may operate once or twice a week to various destinations which vary on a seasonal basis. Most of the seats are sold as part of a package including accommodation, however, increasingly holiday companies will now sell flights only.

A scheduled flight is operated and marketed by the airline in its own right, to a routine, published schedule. They include low-cost airline flights, as well as regular scheduled carriers. "

Your flight will be a charter flight, as Thomas Cook is a holiday company, not an airline.

Just looking at Virgin's movie schedule, "Flight" would be a good choice for any nervous flyers!
