This is the first year I'm taking the Digital Camera to Disney. Int he past, we've bought thro away cameras thoughout the year and would bring to WDW. We always have the film developed at MK. Rumor is...there is no more film devloping, but I saw last year that they will upload your pics to a CD and they can fit 120 pics fit on a CD. I'm know there are rewritable disks, but I'm confused.

My camera holds 27 (give or take a couple). And I do not have a seperate memory card. I plan on buying 1 or 2 before we leave. Question...does anyone know if they sell Digital Memory Cards in WDW?

Does anyone have any suggestions??? :earseek:

Buying some extra memory cards before you leave is a good idea. Get 2 or 3 cards that will hold at least 100 pics each. Don;t be tempted to get one huge card; break up your pics onto several cards just in case something bad happens to one of them - that way you don't lose ALL your pics. Eggs in one basket, as it were.

I haven't used the download service yet since I haven't been to WDW since it started in January. If 120 is indeed the limit per CD, then you can expect to need to download about every two days, because you will take more pics with a digital than you ever did with film. If you have a good camera, you will be pleased at the difference in quality over the old disposable cameras you used to use. The disposables can take great pics, but only in a limited range of situations. The digital will do a better job with flash pics and low-light pics.

The camera shops in the parks do carry several of the most common types of digital memory cards, and in fact the camera shop in Epcot even sells several cameras, both digital and film, but the prices are outrageous, so I recommend getting your extra cards at home before you leave.

If you have a car, you can drive off-site to any Walgreens in the WDW area and get your pics downloaded to CD for only $3.99 per CD, and the only limit to how many pics per CD is how many the CD will actually hold (which varies from camera to camera since cameras with more megapixels make bigger files).

Thanks for the input Will. I never knew there was a place in Epcot that had the photo processing. We've always done it at MK. We would drop off the film when we got there in the morning, and pick it up before we left that night. Thanks again.

I remember when we were there last year, I saw the advertisment for the CD's on the back of the Map for MK. It was at the bottom, said 120 pic on a CD for 14.99. That I remember. Maybe I'll just hold on to the memory cards until I come back home and do it at Walgreens. Something to ponder until June.

I agree. Buy several memory cards before your trip. If you look at CompUSA, Best Buy, etc. there are usually very good deals on the memory cards.

Everyone is correct in the advice they are giving. It is a LOT cheaper to buy extra memory cards for your camera before you get to WDW. And it is cheaper and easier if you get your pictures burned to CD at your local Walmart or Walgreens or any other photo center. If you have a CD burner on your computer, you can purchase an inexpensive memory card reader and transfer the pictures to your computer and burn them yourself. Thats what I do with all of our digital pictures. It is much simpler and I am able to adjust the pictures as neede (i.e. crop, adjust color levels and contrast levels). This way the pictures I burn to the CD are ready to be shown.

Okay, complete digital novice here. I did buy the memory card...should hold about 130 photos. Now, if I go through and 'weed out' those that I don't like, that immediatly frees up that space, correct? Is there any chance something could come along and wipe the remaining ones away? I think I will get 2 more memory cards though. I like the idea of spreading my shots out over several of them. But, another question...since I knew nothing about having to 'format' my memory card, until after I put it in and the camera told me about it...do I have to format each card each time I put it in the camera?? I want to take some photos on one card on day 1, then change cards for the next day, and so on. That way I'm rotating the 3 cards over the trip. Do I have to do anything to the card each time I insert it or is it formatted 'for life' after I do it the first time? I am having soooo much trouble moving from film to digital...the whole teaching an old dog new tricks thing is kicking in. And I really want to use the camera in WDW so have been playing with it at home. But I'm scared to death that I'm going to lose all my photos since they aren't on 'film'.

The cards come formatted so you don't need to do anything with them. After you have taken lots of pictures and deleted some it is a good idea to format the card. Be sure to do it in the camera and not on your computer.

You shouldn't have to do it while you are at WDW. Be prepared to take more pictures than you would with a film camera.

Hi,
I posted a similar question a while back. After further digging, I have decided to buy an additional flash card and develop them when I go home. They say that the CD's and developing are very expensive at WDW.

What kind of camera do you have? How many MP's? You can set it to take more pics on your card. For instance, I have a 5.0 MP camera. I can get either 63 pics very high quality for enlarging to poster size, or I can get 200+ pics at good quality for enlarging up to 5x7. And I have all the "inbetween" selections. For what I use most of my pics for, usually 4x6 and some 5x7, I use the "good" setting, verses "best".

Hope that helps!

That's what I originally thought, but when I had put the card in my camera (a very basic Kodak) I took about 17 shots and then the camera told me that the memory card needed to be formatted. And doing so might erase the photos in the cameras memory storage area. I am soooo confused by this digital stuff.

Maybe Kodak's are different but never formatted in the middle of filling up a card. You would lose your images if you format.

Most cards do come pre-formatted, but I have heard aobut some camera's wanting to format a new card. I imagine it has something to do with not liking the factory formating of some cards. My Sony Cybershot has never wanted to format a new card before use, but I always format a brand new card to make sure the camera has no problems with the format.

I always format my new cards for the same reason. It is not complicated and usually takes about ten seconds.

I think that if I had a brain...I'd be dangerous...Everything everyone has mentioned makes prrfect sense. Hold the cards and do it at home on the puter...I never think of the obvious...thanks to all for the help.

My dad and I took our memory cards (about 7 or 8 between us) to Walgreens and had our pictures put on cd's. We didn't delete anything before we could check the cd. It was a big help. Even with my 512mb card, I filled it up. I think between my dad and I, we got over 2,000 pictures...and my mom had 17 or 18 rolls of film. :)

but for our cards, we had: 16mb, 28mb, 256mb, 2- 128mb, 512mb, and one more.
