FILM and park entrance

Okay, thought I read on here where we will now have to go through metal detectors at the gate of WDW. Now if I have film won't that hurt it? Has anybody been since they were trying these detectors out and what did you do with your film and camera when you went through????

Sure don't want to torture the kids in all those poses (hey they are tennagers) just to get home and see it was ruined!

In this day & age of heightened security, we can probably expect to encounter these machines just about everywhere. It's only after repeated exposure that you should experience a problem & it's usually just the super-duper machines that they have at international gateway airports that cause a problem. I transported a videotape from the US to Tokyo to Singapore & there was no problem whatsoever, so I think you can exoect nothing to happen to your vacation film.

I've always been under the assumption that it's the xray machines at the airport that are the problem. They xray your carry-on as you go through the metal detector.
I would think they'll have somebody take your backpack or whatever from you as you walk through the metal detector. Otherwise they'll be going off like crazy!

I have taken my camera with film in it through the metal detectors at Six Flags several times and never had any problems.

At SF, you hand your bag to the screener and then walk through. Then go to the bag check.

You can't carry anything with you thru a metal detector. The camera/film would set it off. When are they installing the metal detectors at Disney? I hadn't heard that before.

Folks,

Metal detectors will not affect film....it is the x-ray screening equipment at airports that can do film in, and then it is a function of dose (how powerful) and frequency (how many times).

They were testing the metal detectors at MK after park closing. No news yet on if they are going to install the metal detectors.

As far as WDW goes... There isn't any metal dectors there. Unless I successfull missed them at each park for the 11 days I was there last month

The only security that can be seen (much more behind the scenes I would have to imagine) is the guys/gals looking in the bags.

Thats all, your film will be alright in WDW.

There are no metal detectors at the park entrances! The only thing they have, are tables set up under canopys and if you are entering the park with a bag, they ask that you proceed to one of the tables and allow a member of security to look inside of you bag. They just do a quick scan through all compartments. If you are entering the park without a bag, then they shuffle you right on up to the gates. No need to worry.

Here is a tip...there are usually tables on two sides with 4-5 people on each side checking bags. Many people go to the first table/ person they see. Bypass around them to the shorter lines further down the table. They do a good job, and are really quick.

Just have your bag open and ready so you will not waste time at the bag check point. I have seen many people walk up there then get thier bag out of a stroller or something, finally open it, then hold up the line closing it back up. Be prepred, I mean that is the point of a bag check ...to check your bag!

Do they look in every part of your bag? I plan to use a fanny pack mostly, but I might need my backpack once or twice.

And it drives me crazy how people aren't ready for bag searches! I work in NYC and when I walk in my building to go to work my bag is checked....and you'd be amazed how many people stand there fumbling.
