Well, it looks like my Mother will be cruising with me afterall. I bought her a plane ticket today, but will not make the official change with DCL until sometime next week.

My FIL is still hospitalized and although he isn't in critical-phase anymore (thank God), he still needs a lot of love, special needs and most of all, his son (my husband) around. There are still many tests being run on him, including one on Monday to test for a blood infection in his heart valve. Keep your fingers crossed and the pixie dust coming for him -- he needs some extra right now.

I'm very sad by everything happening to my FIL and DH and it has been a very difficult past week. I'm trying really hard here to be happy that I get to share this with my Mom -- she's been having a tough time since my Dad passed away in '96. This is something very special for her as she recently found out she doesn't have a job after December 12th (department downsizing at work -- on top of that she's a housekeeper and has a tough time making a living for herself to begin with). Also, she has never flown, hasn't been in Disney since the late 70s/early 80s and has only ever dreamed of going on a cruise. This is something really special for her.

Overall, I'm really trying to keep my spirits up here, but it is so hard to be excited for this. I hope I can be better and give my Mom a vacation she definitely deserves. My husband needs to be home with his Dad. I've been through this before with my Dad.

Just needed to get some things off my chest and I knew you would all understand. Thanks.

Wow, you have a lot to deal with. I think once all the pre-trip stress is over and you're on board you'll loosen up and be able to have a ball! Please allow yourself to have fun. Especially since you're going with your mom. I think your husband's situation with his dad and since you've lost your father already, you know how important it is to enjoy the time you have with your parents. Have a wonderful time with your mom, you deserve it.

:wizard: ~*~*~******LOTS OF PIXIE DUST-N-PRAYERS*****~*~*~YOU REALLY NEED A TRIP AND SOME TIME WITH YOUR MOM.......

It sounds like this cruise will help you as well by giving you a short break from the stress. Once you walk thru those doors into the atrium I think that the Magic will be able to lighten your heart & you & your mom will have the great trip that you want her to have.

pixie dust and prayers headed straight towards you!

Have a wonderful trip! It's so sweet of you to bring your mom onboard. I'm sure this will be an excellent trip for her...and a great bonding experience for you! I know because I haven't been on a cruise w/o my mom!

Melody,
Im very sorry to hear about FIL.
I know you will miss DH on this trip, but your mom will have so much fun. Just think how you can see Disney through new eyes.

Melody ~

My heart really goes out to you and your situation. I know how you feel on both counts ~ to leave an ill parent and cruising w/o your hubby.

Our Dec. family reunion cruise had been in the planning for over 2 yrs. When the time finally came, my dear Dad's health had really deteriorated making it very diffficult to leave him. He insisted we carry forward and not change our plans. So we did...

Fast forward to Sept. cruise ~ my DH decided he did not want to travel with Disney again and suggested I take my Mom for her 74th BD. We lost my dear Dad in Jan., and this would be a real pick me up after losing her partner of 56 yrs. We also invited my sister. Neither had flown or cruised before! Melody, I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful time we had. It was so fantastic, sharing this special time and new adventures with them to carry in our hearts forever.

Go dear and enjoy this time with your Mom and your sis too if she goes. Mickey and Minnie are waiting to show you all some of 'their magic'. Your Mom will be in awe of being treated like a queen and the Wonder in her finest Christmas decorations.

Thoughts and prayers to your FIL.
Keep the faith ^i^

You are all so kind. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I knew I could count on all of you to understand.

Just got back from a visit with DFIL. Today is the first day he actually ate some of his lunch. PHEW. It has been grueling trying to get him to take a few bites here and there, but he finished about 15% of his meal. Plus, he drank everything nutrition sent for lunch. That's good as well. We'll see what happens tomorrow with the procedure. DH is holding up. He was pretty down in the dumps this morning, but I will surprise him by getting some Christmas decorating done while he's out. Hopefully that will make him smile a little.

Sandie - I was thinking of you today and your trip report from your last cruise. I got tears in my eyes over lunch thinking about how special your cruise was and how I am hoping my Mom will enjoy it just as much as your Mom and Sis did. She's at home now agonizing about having to wear a bathing suit. I'll have to do something to quell her doubts later tonight. You're all right though...this is going to be a special trip. I just need to stay focused on that -- and taking care of hubby. It hurts so much to see him so sad.

Thank you all again. :)
