Figure Skating...Your fav performances...Any skating buffs here?

I never liked Christopher Bowman. Kurt Browning, Brian Orser, Robin Williams, Scott Hamilton, and Elvis Stojko were my absolute favorites. I haven't watched in a few years though and wouldn't know most of the new people :(

I am a huge skating fan!

Sarah Hughes Salt Lake City Olympic FD Performance
Davis and White 2008 World FD to Elinor Rigby
Alexi Yagudun 2002 Gladiator (really anything by him)

Torville & Dean's Bolero 1984 Olympics
Nancy Kerrigan 1994 Olympics (loved that she finally put it together)
Elizabeth Manley 1988 Olympics
Katarina Witt 1994 Olympics tribute to Sarajevo
Debi Thomas 1988 Olympic short program
Paul Wylie professional JFK routine
Scott Hamilton's professional Vegas routine
Shaylyn Bourne & Victor ???? Riverdance

Most Michelle Kwan
*I haven't seen a great Sascha Cohen performance but her technique and flexibility are astounding.

My fav performance ever in Skating is Philippe Candeloro in the Nagano Olympics doing the 3 Musketeers routine. It was breathtaking especially around the 3 minute and 30 sec mark where he does his footwork.

THAT is the single greatest piece of skating EVER! I have it saved and watch it over and over.

I also love his exhibition skate of Sturday Night Fever for pure fun. But watching it, you can tell he studied every dance move. :dancer:

Totally agree with Michelle Kwan, Fields of Gold. I saw her skate this show at a Champions on Ice performance; it was amazing!

For me there are SO many!

I too, was in tears the first time Ekaterina Gordeeva took the ice with out Sergei Grinkov. When I saw her extend her arm as if she were taking his hand, I just lost it.

I also loved Michelle Kwan when she skated to "Field's of Gold" during the exhibition at the Olympics in Salt Lake ( I think....may have been Nagano). There was a puddle of water on the ice and she trailed her hand in it during a back spiral. The camera caught a close up of her face and she was crying. It still gives me shivers.

Paul Wylie skating to anything, but especially an exhibition piece he did to "Bring Him Home" from Les Mis are some of my favorites.

Now for my all time favorite piece.....this one a funny one. Scott Hamilton did a professional competition where he had on a black costume with what looked like flaps all over it. He skated to music from the "Wizard of OZ" and acted out all the parts as the music for that section of the movie came on. He would turn over one or more of the flaps and it would have something that represented the character for which the music was playing. It was incredibly long....I want to say almost 6 minutes and finished with the Witches Hat coming down from the ceiling and covering him. It was the silliest and most amazing skating performance I have ever seen by anyone.

I could go on and on, there are SO many more.....but I'll stop for now.

OMG! Yes! I am tearing up just thinking about that moment. Absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

I loved Brian Boitano skating to "The Phantom of the Opera."

Also, I also loved Christopher Bowman the Showman. I was so sad to hear about his death.

I remember another French skater. I believe his name was Phillipe. He skated to the Pink Panther. It wasn't a great or difficult skate, but the performance was very clever and funny. He did a great Sellers impression.

I'm not into ice skating and can only name one or two people, but I thought the greatest routine I ever saw was when Brian Boitano skated to the song "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" from the movie South Park.

If you haven't seen the movie, it's the full-length feature of the reviled cartoon show South Park.

Anyway, in the movie they sing the song. It sort of pokes fun at him and here are the lyrics:

What would Brian Boitano do
If he was here right now,
He'd make a plan
And he'd follow through,
That's what Brian Boitano'd do.

When Brian Boitano was in the olympics,
Skating for the gold,
He did two sow cows and a triple lutz,
While wearing a blind fold.

When Brian Boitano was in the alps,
Fighting grizzly bears,
He used his magical fire breath,
And saved the maidens fair.

So what would Brian Boitano do
If he were here today,
I'm sure he'd kick an *** or two,
That's what Brian Boitano'd do.

I want this V-chip out of me,
It has stunted my vo-ca-bu-lar-y.

And I just want my mom
To stop fighting everyone

For Wendy I'll be an activist, too,
*** that's what Brian Boitano would do.

And what would Brian Boitano do,
He'd call all the kids in town,
And tell them to unite for true
That's what Brian Boitano would do.

When Brian Boitano travelled through time
To the year 3010,
He fought the evil robot kings
and saved the human race again

And when Brian Boitano built the pyramids,
He beat up Kubela Kong.

*** Brian Boitano doesn't take s@*t from an-e-y-body

So lets all get together,
And unite to stop our mom's
And we'll save Terrance and Phillip too,
*** that's what Brian Boitano do.

And we'll save Terrance and Phillip too,
*** that's what Brian Boitano dooooo,
That's what Brian Boitano do.

ANYWAY, I saw him do a routine to this song and I thought that was great. He took a song that was kind of poking fun at himself and he turned it around and had a great time with it. I remember it to this day.

His name is Dan Hollander. It was part what would Brian Do/Come Sail Away from Styx...

Wow....I didn't know Christopher Bowman had died.....I wasn't fond of his skating but I do remember him....what happened?

Scott Hamilton skating to "Hair" and Kurt Browning to "Brick House". I was not sure how to post a link for the "Hair" but it is on you tube, love it!

Wow, that Philippe Candeloro routine was incredible!! I had never seen that before.

My current favorite is Johnny Weir. He is such a beautiful skater, and his spins are amazing. Here is his long program at the 2008 nationals, which he almost won. The score was tied, but because Evan won the long program, he got the gold.

And here was his exhibition skate after the 2008 nationals, so artistic & beautiful:

I am a skater, and for several years had an opportunity to work with Anne Shelter, a Choreogropher-footwork and edge specialist from Canada.

Anne worked with many of the Canadian champions including Elvis Stojko and Kurt Browning. Anne always said that Kurt Browning had the "trickiest" feet she had ever seen. He can do some of the most amazing things with his feet and the edges on his skates. Footwork and turning, especially when the skates are so close together is incredibly difficult. Kurt makes it look so incredibly easy!

I've always been a fan of Kurt Browning! :lovestruc He's quite the hottie!

I remember seeing Scott Hamilton's Wizard of Oz routine during a Stars on Ice tour. Loved it! Wasn't that the season he came back after he was first diagnosed with cancer? I remember everyone giving him a standing ovation even before he skated!

Ilia Kulik did an amazing routine once where his blades had a microphone or something on them so you could hear the blades on the ice. I liked that one too...

Gordeeva & Grinkov 1988 Winter Olympics, long program - gold medal performance. They were absolutely my favorite pairs couple ever and in my opinion nobody has ever matched their perfection as a pair. I still miss Sergi. I even had this link bookmarked in my favorites!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LO895I2ig_Y&feature=related

Oh and I'm a dork - I have their '94 Olympics gold medal winning routine on my bookmarks too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCOqBY_uri8&feature=related

Oh did I cry while watching this.....
Who didn't? :sad1: It has been neat to watch her grow as a singles skater since then though.

Elaine Zayak was always my favorite. She bombed out of the 84 olympics but she came back about 10 years later and tried again to compete just for herself. She came in 4th in the Nationals that year. I think if he would have skated a few years later she would have placed higher. She was still of the era that they did figures and she only had 1/2 of a foot that made it almost impossible for her to do well in that piece.
