Everyone despises standing in line, so lets hear some ideas for games to play to keep the boredom at bay.

My wife and I play word games where we have to say a Disney character/movie/attraction name and the next person has to take the last letter of that ride/attraction/name etc to continue the chain. For example, I would start with Dumbo and she would have to use "O" for her word. If you get stuck, you lose your ride/seat preference. Kinda corny but keeps the mind churning and helps to speed up the wait.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thats a cute game!!! Personally I like to use the time in line to people watch. I'm easily amused I guess:D .

Usually I use that time to "people watch". It can be very amusing just to see reactions some have to different situations going on around them. Also I plan on what attraction I would like to go to next or what we want to do. Sometimes you have to plan hour by hour, even though I usually have a whole itenerary made up before I leave. I do want to have something for the kids this year when we go, but knowing my teenage DS, he'll just want to listen to his CD player while in line.

I like your game! Usually we just pull out a park map and showtime sheet to see what we may want to do next or later on.

My friend's and I like to do madlibs in line. Passes the time but also can bring stares from those around you when you are in fits of laughter :)

2 words: Travel Yahtzee. The 5 dice are trapped in a type of plastic carrying case that you can shake. You can punch up the dice you want to save from one shake to the next. Fits conveniently in a camera case or fanny pack alongside the small score pad.

We did this last time we went with a group of five and had a blast while waiting for attractions. And, we met lots of other people in line who wanted to join in on the fun.

My wife hates waiting in line with me, she says I go into "shutdown mode". I can wait in the longest line without any need for contact from the outside world. My wife on the other hand needs to be entertained every minute in line. This November we'll be bringing with us a sure-fire diversion, our 2yr old son.

Thank you for posting this. I thought I was the only people watcher. You really see some interesting people in WDW.

Game with our Pal Mickey or listem to some of his corny joke's.::yes:: :teeth:

I do like to people watch, but sometimes we need other things to keep us occupied. One thing we do is I keep postcards with us and along with that I have a snack-size zip-loc bag in which I have a mini sheet of relatives/friends names and addresses, postcard stamps and a pen. My girls love choosing a cousin or friend to write a quick note to.

We also carry a small 5-minute crossword book, with a pencil and a sharpener. We all take turns doing a crossword. They are not too terribly hard and it is a fun way to pass a few minutes.

I have the electronic Yahtzee, to which I am totally addicted. I keep the sound turned off so as not to annoy those close by.

Lastly, we usually also carry the mini size etch-a-sketch. Again, big bang for the little space it takes up, and everybody likes to have his or her turn.

PS, Very nice thread.

We enjoy people watching and sorta kinda eavesdropping too..you can hear some funny thing in those lines...:sunny: :sunny:

We also spend the time talking and catching up on news, we do not see each other too much and often things get missed as to what is going on with folks in a large family like ours, we just often talk to each other...:earsgirl: :earsboy:

Ooh, I love the postcard idea! We're always too tired when we get back to our room to do them. Thanks for sharing that great idea, mars315!

We play the picnic game - The 1st person picks something to bring and the next one says theirs and then adds another, the next person then has to repeat the first two items and then add another. We do it in car rides but when we're at Disney, we'll change it to characters or rides or movies! (I'm going on a picnic and I'm bringing Mickey!) One time we were doing it on line and another family (of adults) teamed up to help my DS6 - he loved getting the upper hand on poor mom and dad!

We talk DVC with other people in line or we just visit with others in line. We have met the nicest people that way.

Plus I refuse to spend any more than 20 minutes waiting, so we don't get in any line that requires more than that. We go early or late and hit our favorites when the lines are shorter.

We take a backpack, and keep goodies in it. The kids sometime pass the time with Gameboy.

One thing we did on this trip, which took some pre-trip work, was put together a binder containing "interesting facts" about each ride. We gleaned the information from various websites. We also put together trivia quizes for each park, and used those as conversation pieces.

We play the alphabet game with characters. We run from A-Z trying to come up with a character for each letter. There are a couple of letters with no characer (don't remember which ones exactly, but you can google to find out). But we try our best to come up with one before we skip it. This game got us through all of WDW and DL one year. We always go in low seasons so it's low lines but it's deffinatly fun. We'll be sitting at lunch and suddenly come up with the name we were trying for, and at the next line we just pick up where we left off.

I like the sound of that picnic game, tell me, do people just jump in and play along or do you have to do a bit of cajoling? I find people a little bit standoffish in lines.

DH loves to tease and talks to others. He says things about me (in a joking manner). Once he told everyone on the bus not to worry because he was an escaped prisoner from Texas. (we live in the north and have NE accents.)

We once joined in a game with another family while waiting for the bus.

"my name is ann, I live in Alaska, and I sell Apples" Don't remember the name of that game, but we had fun with the family. I think they enjoyed us joining in.

:p
