FIFA International Break (March 20th-28th, 2023). It’s that special time again when all 215 national teams across the globe (North, South, Central America, the Caribbean, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania and Middle East) will be playing (including the USA and Canada). Is their a national team you will be following this week or just potentially looking at highlights? If you are a new fan of the sport or not a fan at all, do you think you might tune into a game or too this week? Since the 2022 FIFA World Cup, I’m curious if any new fans of international soccer were created and if any new Disboarders are excited for the upcoming matches.

Some quick facts:

USA and Canada are playing in Concacaf Nations League group play that are official cap-tying matches (binding players to that national team), which are extremely important and count in terms of rank and points. The USA matches will be on Friday at 7pm ET on TNT and next Monday at 7pm ET on TNT. The Canada matches will be on Saturday at 9pm ET on Onesoccer (for those in Canada), Paramount Plus and TUDN (for Canadians living in the USA) and next Tuesday at 8pm ET on Onesoccer (Canadian residents only) and Paramount Plus (USA residents only). Both the USA and Canada need at least a win and a draw to advance in the tournament and go to the finals. Details can be found in my two other soccer specific threads.

European nations are doing Euro 2024 qualifiers this week and details can be found here:

Some matches will be shown on Fox owned stations, Fubo TV, and Univision owned stations. DAZN holds the tv rights in Canada.

Africa will be competing to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations this week. Details for USA tv coverage can be found here:

Asian (including Middle Eastern) and Oceania teams will play international friendlies this week as well. Details can be found on ESPN:

There is so much soccer this week. Good luck to everyone’s national teams this week. Please comment below on what matches you plan on watching (even if it’s only potentially highlights) or if you plan on not tuning in at all. No judgments but I always appreciate replies on my soccer threads (even if it is simply “not at all interested”). Enjoy the soccer everyone. :-)⚽🌎🏟️:jumping1:

Oh man! I thought “break” meant there would be NO soccer for over a week! I was calling it “March Gladness.” Oh well.
;-D

Well, you’re half right. Professional leagues take two weeks off so their club players can play for their national team without disrupting league play.

I thought you this weekend Buzz - I was flying home from Kenya and a few of the fellow passengers were coming back from the FIFA congress (held, if I remember correctly, in Rwanda).
