few questions about okw.

about twice the size.

yes it does. a cute one - the sandcastle is melting....

1) how much bigger are the 1 bedroom compared to other resorts (ssr)?

The size in square feet for all DVC accomodations is shown below. The 1-BR at OKW is 942 sq ft, while SSR is 714. The largest room types are in bold red, and the second largest are shown in bold black. OKW and BWV win in all categories.

Nice chart, Mike!
I must say that the 1 bedrooms at OKW seem MUCH larger than the numbers indicate. Like spicey said, they seem twice as big! Are the balcony stats included in the numbers? (Probably not because same size rooms may have different size balconies at the same resort.) The balconies are also much larger at OKW, with the exception of a few 2nd floor BW view rooms and the corner _123 rooms at BWV.

I'm not sure about the size, but all I know is that OKW rooms are huge and the BWV rooms are effecient as you can sit on your balcony and still reach into your fridge for a beverage:)

I think it's best to describe what the difference is in furnishings. Most DVC 1&2 BR units have a sofa sleeper, chair and ottoman for the living room furniture. OKW has a sofa sleeper, chair, ottoman AND a love seat. The dining area at the others usually includes a table with a bench seat or two chairs, plus a couple of stools at the bar counter. OKW has a nice sized round dining table with 4 chairs, plus an additional buffet style cabinets for extra storage. There is also enough space to bring in the table and chairs from the balcony should you need them. The kitchen is about the same for features and storage but OKW's seems bigger since it has an angled layout. OKW indeed seems much bigger than the square footage appears.

The other BIG difference is that OKW appliances are full sized instead of the smaller efficiency ones in the other DVCs. Even the washer and dryer in the laundry room are full size rather than stackables.

OKW is also the only resort where the freezer in the one and two bedroom villa has an ice maker. Nice to have the ice made for you.

There are some variations on the villa sizes depending on what source you use and when it was published. In Mike's chart above the OKW 2BR sizes don't add up when you combine the studio and 1BR villas. Certainly the BWV studio sizes have been disputed a number of times depending on the source used. Regardless which source you want to believe, the OKW 1BR is much larger than any of the others.

Here are some reported room sizes for DVC resorts from a number of years ago (and updated as DVC released reports for BCV, SSR and AKV):

My chart just depicts the official square footage as published by the Disney Vacation Club, both on their web site and in their marketing materials (such as the DREAM book).

I suspect both Doc and Mike have room sizes that have been published by Disney at some time or another. I have a hunch they actually vary a little from unit to unit and that might be why there is often discrepancy even direct from Disney. I suspect the sizes are actually an average.
