Hi, My husband works in Solon, but we are living an hour away from there. We are looking at moving closer to his work. We like Aurora, Stow, and Twinsburg. I need some help narrowing it down. I need any input on any of these cities (good or bad). Thanks for all your help!!!

Lori

I don't know much about those areas, or what exactly you are looking for in your town. I know when we were moving from out of state our concern was safety and school ratings. There was a magazine that did a rating on many different things yearly.. maybe Cleveland Mag? that may be helpful to you
Have you ever considered Mayfield Village or Mayfield Heights?

Living in Cuyahoga County comes with high property taxes.(Mayfield, Solon, ect.) Just be aware of that.(Your choices are in Summit and Portage, just so you know.) Aurora, IMO, is the nicest of the 3. You will get more home for your money in Twinsburg over Aurora. We used to live in Streetsboro and weren't all that crazy about it. They don't have any parks for kids. Hudson is also nice with great schools, but once again, you pay for it.

Where do you currently live? Maybe someone could help you with a comparable city.

I grew up in Solon. My parents now live in Twinsburg. I have never liked that city, but a lot of people do. My brother lives in Northfield.

I grew up in NE Ohio (living in Columbus now). Aurora is nice, I don't know much about the others (Stow/Twinsburg) but Aurora is nice. It has good schools, nice outlets and Geauga Lake ;) My BFF growing up lived in Chagrin Falls which was great too :) Good luck!

Another vote for Chagrin Falls. I grew up there from the ages of 3-11. We lived at Lake Lucerne. My best memories are of riding my bike, going swimming at the lake and playing in the woods. I still have a friend who lives in the area and she wont move from Bainbridge. It's a great place to raise your family. There are several developments that are very family friendly. What I wouldn't do to have my husband get a job up there!

I would not consider Stow, if you can afford to live in Aurora or Twinsburg. Aurora and Twinsburg have both excellent schools and are family centered communities. Both are affordable for the area, Stow would be cheaper.

I like Twinsburg because of their nice rec center, lots of community activities such as the Twins Days and it is a good location off 480.

I like Aurora because they are close to the outlet malls, LOL! They also have lots of family activities. The location is not as good for me personally since I travel towards Cleveland more, but 480 and turnpike are convenient.

I used to live in Hudson which is nearby, but it is pricier and we didn't care for the schools even though they were excellent.

Commuting to Solon, Twinsburg is pretty close but most other people will be commuting the same main road if your husband works a day shift. Have him make the drive to each town once after working if you think it'll be an issue for you. DH did this when we were looking for houses in the area, and it narrowed it down significantly.

You are not the first person who said they would not choose Stow. I thought their schools were Excellent as well. We have looked at houses in all 3 cities. At the houses we looked at, Stow had the highest taxes. Aurora was in the middle, and Twinsburg had the cheapest taxes. We were going to look in Hudson, but could not afford the taxes!!! That is a good idea to have him drive to each city after work, just to see what the commute would be like. I know Twinsburg would be about 15 minutes, Aurora 20, and Stow 35---but that is not factoring in rush hour traffic.

Stow is the farthest, and we want to move to be closer to work. So he would still have almost the same length of a drive if we lived in Stow. However, we thought Stow was nice---just driving through, but everyone seems to like Twinsburg and Aurora better. So they must know something!! Also, a lot of people he works with moved from Twinsburg to Aurora! So maybe it will be Aurora!!

What don't you like about Stow??? Thanks for your help.

We moved to Twinsburg in Nov. 2007 and we really like it. I have a second grader and have been very happy with the schools. The recreation is very nice (Fitness center, waterpark, camps/classes). I love the library.

We looked all over the area, my husband works in Willoughby Hills which is 35 min. north and we felt that Twinsburg was the best fit for us.

I really liked Hudson also, but the taxes are almost double what we are paying here.

You can PM me if you have any specific questions.

I agree with you about Hudson!! Taxes were so much money, we ruled that out right away. Glad to hear you like Twinsburg. That rec center has me very interested in Twinsburg. That would be great for us. They have a waterpark??

Here is information about the fitness center

and the outdoor waterpark.

We looked in Aurora also, one of our final 3 houses was there. It's a really nice town also. One of my good friends lives there and they really like it.

I live on the northern end of Twinsburg and it only takes me 10 minutes to get to the shopping area of Solon. I think your husbands commute would be good from either Twinsburg or Aurora.

Wow! That looks really nice!! My kids would love both of those. Have you pulled your kids out of school for a Disney trip?? How is the school on stuff like that----that would not make me not like Twinsburg, I was just wondering...

Stow would probably be more than 35min during rush hour, because EVERYONE is going through the same towns (Stow, Hudson, Twinsburg and then into Solon). Twinsburg would be 10-20 min. depending on location. Even though Stow has excellent rated schools, there is a difference in how good the schools are.

Friends of ours bought a house in a new development that was supposed to have Hudson schools. At the last minute the zoning was changed and they were "stuck" with Stow schools. The housing values dropped and they have had a hard time selling their home. Our Hudson home sold within months. That'll give you an idea maybe about Stow schools. I don't mean any disrespect for those who live there, but if you can afford Twinsburg, it would be much better place overall.

Since you want to move closer to your husband's work, choosing a community like Twinsburg or Aurora would put you much closer. Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I know that Stow has excellent rating for schools, but it is nice to get people's opinions---good or bad! Seems like lots of people like Twinsburg and Aurora. I am leaning more towards Twinsburg b/c of the rec center!!

What are Twinsburg schools like?? Are people happy with them??

Our last trip in October was the first time that I had to take my ds out of school (other than preschool). His teacher was great about it - hopefully it will always be that easy :)

I would definitely recommend Aurora. It's a great small community with excellent schools. It's the kind of community that's small enough that you know a lot of people there and is very friendly. It's right next to Solon and your husband won't even need to take the freeway to get there. My husband and I both grew up there and loved it. We currently don't live there now but would love to move back there some day especially since my husband now works in Aurora. I work in Twinsburg so I'm very familiar with that city also. It's nice and has lots of restaurants and a rec center. I don't think the schools are as good though and it's definitely larger. Stow is nice and has great parks for the kids. I live in the next city over from there. It seems like a bit of a drive to Solon though. My choice would definitely be Aurora. If you have any questions about there please feel free to ask!

I was looking on the Twinsburg Rec Center page, and it says the child care is up to age 6 during the week. Is that right? What do you do during school breaks and summer vacations? I would not be able to take my kids. Just wondering....

Thanks!
