Fell on My Tailbone

I fell on my tailbone while skating a week ago this past Wednesday :( . At the time I was more embarassed than anything. I was getting off the ice and when I went to stop, my skate caught a rut and my feet went right out from under me. All I wanted to do was jump up and get out of there without crying! I knew it hurt, but figured it would be ok in a few days. Well here it is 11 days later and it still hurts. I did take some Advil the first couple of days, but it seemed to be getting better. I have been walking every day briskly and I do know it hurts a bit after I walk, but I guess I just keep thinking I can push through it. I have given myself the last two days off though, hoping that will help.

Has anyone else ever had a fall on their tailbone? How do you help it to get better? There isn't a bruise or anything and it doesn't hurt to press on that spot, but everytime I bend, sit down, or stand up it really stabs me. How do I make it go away???? It is driving me nuts!!!! :rolleyes2

Thanks so much
Kerri

My DW did that soem years ago. You should see a doc and have an X-ray to make sure that it is not fractured. To minimize pain when sitting you can use an inflatable swim ring. Yes, it looks funny, but it takes the pressure away from your tailbone as it no longer touches the surface of the seat - But please don't use it while driving!!!

When I was about 11yrs old I was playing on a see-saw with a friend. She fell off the back when I was at the top with my feet up on the see-saw (does that make sense???), so I landed full weight on my tail bone. I can remember sitting there trying to breathe it hurt so bad. Never had an x-ray (not sure what a doctor could do, other than confirm a fracture), but it was probably nearly a year and a half before I could do sit-ups in gym class without pain. Didn't hurt badly on a day-to-day basis after the first several weeks, but those sit-ups were a killer.

Sorry I can't offer any good advice. I know that it hurts bigtime, though. :grouphug:

I figure skated the majority of my life and can honestly say that I fell on my tailbone AT LEAST 80 times, mostly learning the axel, then the double axel and then the triple salchow. It will hurt for 3 weeks or so, but the pain will go away eventually.

Sorry I don't have any other advice. Don't be embarassed, everyone does it! (Skaters at least)

I fell on mine about 2 mon ago, early morning going down the stairs and I slid all the way down. There was no bruise to be seen but like you everytime I moved I felt it. It was about 3 weeks before it really went away. With tailbone injuries you don't really know if it's bruise or broken w/o going to a doc and even if you did there's not really any treatment for it, just drugs if the pain is too bad.

Good luck with it going away quickly

Please go and see a doctor about this. I've heard of women fracturing their tail bone in childbirth.

I fell on mine pretty hard on the ice about 3 years ago and have experienced intermittent backpain since. I have been to the chiro which offered temporary relief, but need to get in to see my Dr. I would recommend erring on the side of caution and get it checked out.

Oh poor you.

I feel down the basment stairs (It had been raining, I went to cost co and was running things down stairs, I didn't hold onto the rails.) My feet went out from under me and I landed on my back and tail bone at the bottom of the stairs. I actaully couldn't stand at 1st.

I did have a doctor check me out. He said I was very lucky, no permint damage. However I did break my tail bone. Not a darn thing you can do about it.

It hurt me for about a year after when I sat on hard wooden chairs or any chair with out padding. I hope yours isn't as bad.

I have been on my husband for years to fix the basement stairs, I hate them. Now I hate them more, for Karma. (this actually wasn't the 1st time I have fallen on them, but the worst.) I was pretty sure there was nothing the Dr. could do, but I figured if I had pain later because of it I should get an exam with in 48 hours so I had some kind of proof of injury. For a few min laying the the basement floor (carpeted thank good.) I thought I had really messed up my life. Thank God it was just my tail bone (coxicks? can't spell it.)

You better belive I hold onto the rail now, and I don't go to cost co in the rain if I can avoid it any more either! :teeth:

Hit my tailbone riding a toboggan (sp?). It was always a challenge to see if you could make it the creek at the far bottom of the hill. We made it and when we flew into the creek I (and everyone else) flew off the toboggan and when I came down it was on my tailbone on the end of the sled.

The H.S. basketball coach wasn't too happy when I missed two games. He banned anyone from sledding. No, it didn't stop us because we stunk and who wants to miss one of the most fun things you can do in winter because we might lose more games :confused3 ?

Seems like I was able to run again about a week and a half later, but I definitely felt the pain for 3-4 weeks after.
