Feedback on Bluetree Resort, Oak Plantation, & Hawthorn Suites Seaworld

We are planning a trip to Orlando in mid March this year for 4 days and would appreciate feedback (rants or raves) from anyone who has stayed at the Bluetree Resorts, Oak Plantation, or Hawthorn Suites Seaworld.

Iam also interested in the same properties. We are going March 25 to April 2nd and think a suite may better for us as my husband and I and our 16 yr old son may want room to stretch out. The private bedroom would be great for some alone time!

I have stayed at Bluetree Resort a couple of years ago through an exchange with Interval International (timeshare) - we own 2 weeks in a timeshare in Europe. It was a 5 star resort in their book and I think it may well still be however I found it to be slightly in need of refurbishing especially the kitchen and I would not stay there again. Although it was as clean as could be expected the kitchen cupboards were getting old and I just don't think it is hygienic to use utensils out of these. Try a search on this property through these boards as I think other people stayed there and mentioned insects in the rooms. We thought we saw something on our first night but could not find it.

I have found several of the timeshare properties in Orlando getting quite old now and I would not stay in them again eg:

Resort World of Orlando/Spas at Resort World or it may now be named Clarion Suites.

Also we stayed at Isle of Bali or Ron Jon Resort as it is now called. When we initially went to our villa they put us in a townhouse that was badly in need of refurbishing. Again I would not touch anything out of the kitchen. In the II book they show photos of the newer building. After much complaining and making a fuss in front of prospective timeshare buyers in the lobby they transferred us into the new building which was acceptable.

I am now very careful about where I stay on exchange through II in Orlando and I would only go for a resort which is relatively new. I know they will try to get you to a timeshare selling promotion however if you go through an exchange you do not have to attend these.

Perhaps I am too fussy but I expect the same standard as to what I am used to at home here in Northern Ireland and having spent a lot of money to get to Orlando for a family of four from here I don't like to be disappointed.

Thanks for review of Bluetree Resort, Carrickdisfan. I'm dropping it off my list. Except for a few hotel reviews at mouseplanet and Fodors, I have not been able to find a good, extensive review site. Anyone out there know of one?

I can give some feedback for Hawthorn Suites SeaWorld (Westwood Blvd.) --- It's a great place to stay! I stayed there four different times, the most recent being last month in January. It's a great property - the suites are big and comfortable, and the pool is very nicely landscapped with palm trees and all. It also has an excellent continental breakfast - they now had hot food as well (eggs, waffles), along with the usual bagels, cereals, fruit, toast, etc. I am planning to stay there again in May.

I too would stay at Hawthorne. They have a good reputation along with Hampton Inns and others.

I always hae made too any mistakes and now try to cross reference and am very keen to see when the htel was built. With a small family (3), you'll probably eat out and need nothing more then breakfast.

Timeshares I feel are for larger families with small kids where the evening may require a tv/vcr....

Thanks everybody for the info. I just booked a 1 bedroom king suite for 3 days at the Hawthorn Suites Seaworld for $52.67 + tax a night. To get this rate, call them directly at 1-407-351-6600 and ask for the "Magical Orlando Getaway" special: Stay 2 days get the 3rd free. At $79. a day for the first 2 days that averages out to $52.67 a day for 3 days. Looks like this offer maybe only for a 1 bedroom suite and it's good only until 3/31/02.

One of my choices, which I should have also included in the subject, was Studio Plus Convention Center, also on Westwood Blvd. They have a pool, unheated, which is also shared by the nearby Extended Stay (same parent company, cheaper smaller suites). A queen suite is $54. a night for 2 adults, no discounts and no free continental breakfast. The property was built in mid 1999. We have stayed in a Studio Plus before with no complaints.
