buzznbelle's mom--that sounds great!! I am going to have to try that this week.

Dawn1967 - where do you get Kosher hot dogs for less than .50 a package? Hebrew National sells for about $5.00 a package near me and when they go on sale it's only to $1.99. And that's a GREAT price for Kosher hot dogs.

We eat them a lot and I'd love to find out how I can get them cheaper!
I was at the grocery store at the right time they marked them down because they were 2 days from expire so i bought what they had and threw them in the deep freeze.

Today's food for a family of 5, dd12 with multiple food allergies:

Breakfast

whole wheat toast w/ butter $0.75
corn flakes w/ milk, $0.50
oj, the last I had (need to go to Costco), $0.83
coffee etc $0.90

Lunch

Dh packed lunch of leftovers, ds14 (robotic camp at the U of Delaware) and dd12 (ballet intensive) did as well
dd7 and I had leftovers at home

Dinner

"Farmer's Breakfast"----eggs (8, $0.64), ham (reduced clearance I threw into the freezer $0.92), redskin potatoes (hmmm let's call it $1.50), some cheddar cheese (from the sale last month, $0.50/4oz)----$3.56

steamed green beans, garden, FREE
peaches, $1.67

Snacks

leftover pita chips, spinach dip and mango salsa from yesterday (brought by family)
lemonade from yesterday

Unfortunately dd12 had an allergic reaction (GI pain) this morning at ballet so I picked her up early. Now I've got to call the bread manufacturer (lame lame website) to see if they make anything else with sesame seeds.....

What is she allergic to in the the bread. My youngest son has a soy a minor soy allergy and why i make my own bread because of this. Lucky he doesn't like buns for his hot dogs and hamburgers.

Hebrew National is the only kosher brand I know of and seen here. I know if i go south i can get Nathan's but Hebrew national is the only kosher brand sold in this area. Also being a large Ethnic area they go on mark down often here.

What do you mean a large Ethnic area?

And I have to say - it's impressive. Even on mark down I have never seen Hebrew National for under .99!

Nathan's isn't Kosher, is it?

My menu for today is rather shameful:

Breakfast: cereal and milk for DH and me $.75, coldcuts for the girls with bread and mustard $2
Lunch: Ramen $1.20 (in my defense, I did add some scallions and wakame to the water and only used half the mix. The girls specifically asked for this and it is rare that I make this stuff)
Dinner: I bought two gorgeous Rock Fish that I am baking with onions and tomatoes and will probably serve with rice. $19.50
Snacks: PB&J w/ milk $1.50

TOTAL: $24.95

I think Nathan's are kosher. Really not that sure and not that important. Not a hot dog expert i just know if I'm gonna eat them it's not going to be something i don't like and Nathan's and (can't get Nathan's unless i go in California to shop. ) and Hebrew national are the only ones i will eat.

okay Im going to give this a try, mind you are still trying to figure out how to divide everything up, etc.

breakfast:
ds- one waffle .23
OJ .18

headed to my appt where I had to be fasting. picked up some munchkins for the kiddos to keep them occupied. dd had a donut total bill came to $5.50

had a free bagel and a cup of coffee at the office after having my blood drawn.

snacked on munckins for lunch and a glass of milk. .31
ds had a bowl of cheerios without milk .23
dd had a few munchkins and gatorade. ( she had her tonsils and adnoids out last week and still isnt eating much) .56 for gatorade

snack- we shared a bag of popcorn. it was a bogo sale so .33
kids each had a soda for .50 at dh's firehouse so that was $1.00

dinner-
I had a ham and swiss sandwich for a total of $1.63 and some mac and cheese that dd didnt want.that was a BOGO sale also for .32 a pack

dd had a grilled piece of chicken. cant figure out that one since its a 6lb bag that I bought for $12.99 at BJ's.

ds will have a bowl of yogurt and a banana. for a total of .50

for snack dd will have a bowl of ice cream since that is about her norm postop. that is .30 by my calculations..

so a grand total for the day: $11.59 not including the piece of chicken.
and that doesnt include dh's firehouse meal this evening that cost him $6.00. I will try again tomorrow but will be including dh since he is at home and we will be eating full meals together... :confused3

My husband loves ramen we don't eat it though there something in the noodles that effects my little one. But he use to take Sliced beef and green onions and grated ginger and grated carrots and a hint of soy sauce and add it to the beef flavor one. I swear when I was first dating him i thought he could cook lol.

Well there is nothing but bad stuff in Ramen so I'm not surprised your little one has problems with it. I am horrified at the mount of MSG and other sodium my girls and I consumed today.

It really is amazing how much msg and sodium is in prepared food. The doctor use to think my feet were swelling from my diabetes it's been a year since we gave up things like hamburger helper canned soups and veggies, and frozen prepared meats and cold cuts and my feet no longer swell up. And my diabetes is actually under controlled. On occasion we have hot dogs like tonight and we have boiled ham and when we go out i don't worry about those things or if we go to others homes and I can tell that night or next morning because i retain water and my hands and feet swell up.

I almost never use canned soups. My girls love Ramen, but only get it 3 or 4 times per year. We do eat hot dogs occasionally because they are just so convenient when I have nothing else planned. Cold cuts are my downfall, but I try to limit that as much as possible too.

I figure msg and nitrates and nitrites need to be limited, but I can't seem to eliminate the completely from the diet.

dd friend almost died from just eating raman noodles for a month straight. he was in college and thats all he could afford. The kid was really sick:sick:

Dd12 is allergic to soy, sesame, peanut, hazelnut and watermelon. I've found a few different breads (two are from Pepperidge Farms and we've got an outlet 10 minutes away) and rolls that she can eat. I don't bake bread in the summer---just too hot and humid.

This particular bread is new in our stores so I gave it a try. No soy in the bread, no sesame either (sesame isn't required to be labeled for under federal law--it can be hidden in "natural flavoring" for example). Several manufacturers will list a "may contain" or "produced on equipment" warning for sesame. This did not. I checked the website before dd ate it--no nutritional information at all, just a listing of all the products (nothing obvious with sesame or seed in the name).

Who knows, perhaps a sesame seed managed to find its way into the loaf. It was really good bread too :sad2:

I really hate allergies some days.
