Did any of you do this?

How far in advance did you send it?

How was your experience?

Was it terribly wrinkled when you got there?

How much did it cost?

Would you do it again?

Details, details, details, please!!!! :cool1:

I'm afraid I can't be of much help.

I really wanted to do this, and Carolyn Allens offers the service. I think there's a small charge for storage and they ask you to only send it a couple weeks before the wedding. Since I was getting my dress steamed by them I thought it was all going to work perfectly. But when I started to really look into it, they cautioned me against sending my dress because it would have to go through customs. (We're in Toronto, Canada)

Well that's all they had to say. I guess I'll be carrying it on now.

But do check out Carolyn Allens because they have a set up to receive the dress, and if you're going to get steaming services from them anyway it makes sense to send it to them.

Hi Ladies,
My dad works for FedEx, so this was certainly an option that we looked at when figuring how to get my wedding dress from Boston to Orlando. We did decided against it, for the soul reason of we got a great deal on our airline, and I was able to buy a seat for my wedding dresss, 1 way, for about $70 dollars. That said, I did FexEx my dress back home to me. It arrives perfectly, no damage, (wrinkles, yeah there were a few, but it was hard to tell which wrinkes came from me wearing the dress and which wrinkles came from the transporting).

Here is the info my dad gave to me:
1. He said, "Sarah, Fexex ships all over the world. We ship computers, microships, medical equipment, EVERYTHING that is of important value to others." He said that wedding dresses are shipped all the time, and every package is handled with the best care.

2. Every package has a tracker, so "loosing" a package does not happen much anymore (although, never say never).

3. It will be a bit expensive, it's not so much the shipping that will get you, its the insurance you will want to buy "just in case". I told my dad that if I did go with FexEx, I would ensure it, no doubt about it. I think the money I spent for the plane ticket versus the money I would have spent for FexEx was comparable, and with it being next to me, it was one less thing to worry about.

4. If you do decide to do this (and i think it is a great option), make sure you buy insurance, and ship it a few weeks before the wedding to Carolyn Allen's. The day it is suppose to arrive, make sure Carolyn Allen's calls you to ensure the dress make the trip. THen, she can store it for you until the big day.

I don't know if this helps, but I hope it did. Good luck!!!!!

I fedex'd 4 fairly large boxes to the Contemporary this week. The boxes have all the stuff for our wedding, welcome bags, gifts, favor stuff etc. Each box was between 20 - 40 pounds. We live in Maryland and it cost $60 altogether for all four boxes to go to florida, 3 day fedex. The cost is partly dependent on where you ship the item from, how big the box is etc. It is less expensive if you send it further in advance and choose the slower method. If you choose next day by 10am you'll probably pay $70+ if you send it atleast 3 or 4 weeks in advance it will be more like $20 and will get there with plenty of time to spare. Fedex has a shipping estimator on their website.

My original plan was to fedex my dress to Carolyn Allen's too.. the girls at the bridal shop had a fit! lol ..and I decided against it at the last minute. They offered to pack it in my carryon for me, but I'm going to do it myself. Their reccomendation was to turn the dress inside out (in case TSA had to open the bag), keep it in the plastic and fold it in. I'm also thinking about getting one of those space bags and not totally sucking all the air out...

We are having Carolyn Allen's come in the morning and steam it.. so if you are planning to have it steamed anyway, and fold it carefully, it shouldn't be wrinkled beyond help, whether you choose to bring it or fedex it.

wow this is all such great info :thumbsup2 you guys are the best :goodvibes i have been worrying about how i will get all this stuff down there!!!

I plan on shipping my dress to Carolyn Allen's two weeks before our wedding. (They'll charge you a little more if you send it more than two weeks in advance.) They only charge you $15 for storage fees, and this only includes your dress and veil. They ask that brides don't send their bras/slips/shoes/other accessories.

I wasn't too thrilled about the thought of carrying my dress with me on the plane. It's heavy and huge, and it's one less thing I want to worry about. I'll make sure to insure the package I send and keep an eye on tracking. I'm sure it'll all work out fine. I'm not one of those girls who needs to have her eye on her dress AT ALL TIMES. Plus it'll makes things easier for us when we get to Disney because we'll be switching hotels mid-trip. I'd hate to drag the dress all over creation! :rotfl:

As far as steaming prices, Carolyn Allen's charges $65 for the veil and gown and $15 for any additional pieces (such as other dresses for your bridal party). They do ask you what material your dress is made out of, so that's some info you should have on hand if you do decide to book them.

Hope this helps! :goodvibes
