Fed Ex Weird Delivery Question

I don't order too much of anything that gets delivered by anyone but the mailman. Anyhow, I did order something that was going to be delivered Fed Ex. When I came home from work today the Fed Ex package was in my kitchen. The delivery man had to of put it there. DH is out of the state, and my only child was at school. I am not even 1% friendly w/ any of my neighboors, so they wouldn't of put it indoors. There was nobody else to put it in my kitchen.

Yes, I usually leave the kitchen door unlocked. I know all the reasons I shouldn't, and after doing this for the last 14 years, today was the last day. So, that is neither here nor there. Why on earth would the Fed Ex delivery person think it was okay to enter my house??? This wasn't a sunporch, a breezeway, or anything of that nature. It is a direct door from the outdoors to my kitchen. I think that is awfully nervey, don't you. He/she had to walk about 5 feet in to put it on the counter which they did.

The other thing that makes me even madder, is I have a shih tzu who is kept in a crate while I'm at work during the day. He could clearly see the person who must of entered. It must of upset him enough because he went all over his crate, which he has only done 1 other time a long time ago. I can only imagine how crazy this must of made him.

Would you call Fed Ex and complain??

They usually write on the invoice that the people were not home and location where package was left. Never heard of one leaving package IN the house. My problem has always been having them leave a package outside for someone to steal when i specifically request that NOT happen and that a signature be required. I would definitely call and ask what note was on the invoice in relation to the delivery.

My DH works for Fed Ex and says that is certainly not fed ex policy to go into someones home. I would feel very creeped out and would definetely call and complain. I hope you get a satisfactory response.

I would start the call by asking for the note left on the invoice by the delivery person. Always get their version first. You can also look up that info on the UPS website. Use the tracking number. Info will include destination, date and time delivered as well as location (for mine, it said PORCH). Very detailed. Print it out before calling UPS. Use it to verify what info they give you.

I worked for FedEx for 6 years as a driver, and I can assure you......I NEVER would have taken it upon myself to enter someones home!

Before you get too upset, could there have been anyone you know that might have driven past, or come for a visit? Maybe they saw the package on your porch and brought it in. Even though you would expect someone in that situation to leave a note, it doesn't always happen. My MIL had a habit of coming into our house without calling, or leaving a note. It would freak me out when things were moved. After much "discussion", she doesn't do that anymore. I would check around a little.

Wow, how strange and scary at the same time! Are you sure that it couldn't have possibly been a neighbor saw your package on your doorstep and took it upon themselves to put it in your house knowing you leave your door unlocked? Could it have been the mailman that put it inside? I would definitely call FedEx and see what their delivery person's story is before taking it any further.

Even though you are not friendly with any of your neighbors maybe they thought they should take it in for you. Maybe they were afraid it would get taken or damaged by weather.

Wow. I'd definitely want to get to the bottom of it. And you are much braver than me. I never leave doors unlocked.

First, it was a nice day today. So, no elements were an issue. As for my neighboors. We don't get along w/ them 1 bit. So, no, they wouldn't bring it in my house. They'd steal it before they'd take it in for me. That is the ones to the left. Across the street all 3 houses are empty and for sale. To the right the lady is housebound and wouldn't be able to do it even if she wanted. I don't know anyone else on our street, so I don't think they'd enter my house.

As for relatives, the only one's that live within 2 hours of me, were all at work. Which I did verify. Most of my friends don't live anywhere near me (45-70 minutes away).

Anyhow, I did call Fed Ex. They said the driver left it and I quote "at/in a side door". The guy a called didn't know what that was supposed to mean. He asked if I had a screen door and a entry door-- which I don't on that door. It's just a entry door. Anyhow, he said they will of course look into it. The will supposedly be calling me back tomorrow to discuss this. It is very strange to say the least.

This fed-ex stranger knows your doors are unlocked which could lead to terrible things, so please lock your doors to be safe (I know you said you were going to, but just don't forget!) :flower:

I made DH put the new keys on my keyring tonight. I won't forget now- it really freaked me out.

That would really freak me out too. Not trying to scare you even more, but perhaps the FedEx guy has known about the door and is getting braver about doing stuff, thinking it may lead to something more sinister down the road. Like letting himself in one day when you're home, or hanging around and waiting for you to get home. I would have that place locked down like Fort Knox. Of course, I live in Atlanta where the doors are kept locked even when you are at home.
I really hope you find an innocent answer to what happened but wow...I shudder to think. Was anything else moved or missing?

I am sorry I would not consider that brave at all, but irresponsible.

I would be more concerned that someone in your neighborhood found it and set it in your house than FedEX.

I am super chatty with my UPS driver and he would never come in my house. That is just :earseek: I hope they can get to the bottom of it. And lock your doors.
